Challenging Front, Relaxing Back
The front 9 of this course was quite a challenge for a first timer in the morning fog. Water hazards throughout. Then the back 9 seemed like a much easier course. Wide open fairways, minimal water and a completely different feel. I’m sure I’ll play this course again after this season.
Mixed review
While the day started well with bartender graciously ensuring we had full cooler of ice and beverages, starter keeping folks moving with a smile on his face, and the sun shining on what I think is a challenging yet enjoyable first hole. It kind of fell off from there.
No one could keep up pace of play and there was a staggering wait by the turn. Didn’t even get to finish the round as ranger came out to kick everyone off before the 18th. All because the groups ahead were so drunk and hitting repeated mulligans no one could move along.
Not sure how they were drunk as the beverage cart was nowhere to be found in 18 holes of Sunday afternoon golf. Saw the cart being filled as we teed off and was assured they’d find us to fill up the cooler again a couple of times during the round, and yet only caught a glimpse if it off in the distance on the back 9.
Drinking isn’t the only reason to golf, and clearly there were people who had too many and shouldn’t have been out there; but still it does help keep things fun and friendly and missing that was disappointing.
Not sure if the pace of play was due to how the bookings went, or just golfers who are still learning and their 120+ scores were impeding the ability for anyone to play thru as they’d get stuck behind another group playing slowly.
Initially felt bad hitting into the group ahead, only to lose that feeling as daylight dissipated and a group of 6 formed up hitting 10+ tee shots on a par 3.
Love the price, have had fun in the past on the course, but this was an overall disappointing experience.
Beautiful course
Started on the back 9 then played the front. Have played a few courses this year and that’s the first time we’ve been told to play that way. It definitely helps with pace of play. The course is in great condition. Some repairs or upgrades happening to what seemed to be the sprinkler systems but it didn’t affect play. Well laid out. Great greens, even speeds. Good bar/ restaurant. Excellent day
Enjoyable Round
First time playing this course and it was a fun day. The course was in good shape considering all the rain we have had lately. The greens were in excellent shape for the most part, although many unrepaired ball marks so come on players, fix them! Several fairways are narrow and many are dog-legged.
Great play
Great course friendly staff. Bartender was awesome packed us water and beer for our day. Went above and beyond. Fun day!
Good basic course
Most of the time you get what you pay for. Play was slow. There were 2 groups of 2 ahead of us. Not sure why course ranger allowed that. When we registered online, it told us we’d be paired with another group. They obviously don’t regulate that. We had a wait on every hole. It’s a nice scenic course, but could use more maintenance. Lots of weeds in fairways, tee boxes not in great condition. It is early in the season so hopefully that improves.
Excellent Shape / Friendly Staff
Course in incredibly good shape, one of my favorites in the cities! Greens played tough and true !
It was ok
The course itself is good. I was surprised when I showed up for my tee time to find that everything was a shotgun start. I would have not played there had I known this. I booked through golf now, and there was no mention of this.
Great price
For the price, you can't beat this course! It provides plenty of challenge for a high handicapper, and you can use driver off the tee on nearly half the holes. I lost my ball in the leaves a few times, but at this time of year that's to be expected. We got held up a few times by a couple of slow groups in front of us but overall a great course!
Good for family fun
Run River is a nice course for family fun and players newer to the game. The course was marked properly (very wet when I played), easy to navigate and offered challenges along with scoring opportunities. Expectation should be a standard municipal course. If you’re looking for a greater experience, look for other options. If you wanna turn 9 or 18 quick on a Tuesday night w your guy/gal for $30, Rum River works.
Opportunities for improvement - Overall, the course could use a refreshed attitude to improve ambiance. Staff enthusiasm was fairly low, along with heavy on course ranger presence makes a player feel unwelcomed and rushed.
The course is fine and meets municipal expectation. But due to to the ambiance and staff interaction, I would not recommend Rum River.
