Tee boxes
Course in nice shape expect all tee boxes closed and moved into areas not trimmed
(in ruff next to boxes)
Horrible
This course used to be very decent but now it’s just declining rapidly
Unexpected
I booked a foursome for a 9:30 tee off time. Upon arrival we were informed that they were operating with a 10:00 shotgun start with 2 groups on each hole. Things were very unorganized. If I knew we weren’t actually getting a tee time I would have booked elsewhere. Other times we have golfed here were fine.
Great course
Locust Hill has always been one of my favorite layouts. Conditions have been up and down over the years, but right now is the best it’s been in a long time. I haven’t seen many area courses better than Locust Hill
Good for February!
Its February and we are playing golf! I like how everyone goes out at 10 AM in a shoot gun start so there is little to no wait. Cart path only which is understandable. Here's hoping they put in some effort to fix the greens come spring. They are in really bad shape.
A fun time on a good course
Locust Hill is a fun course just enough challenge to make you think about your shot. Course is in good shape for late in the season.
Kinda rough
The course isn't in the best shape. The greens are especially rough. They had the tee boxes moved way up, so you were teeing off on uneven ground that almost required a hammer to set your tee. I don't know if it is because they are trying to get the normal tee boxes in shape or if it was because they had a best ball scramble that day.
I really wish that the Golf Now app would let you know when you ate booking into an event like this. I'm not a fan of best ball scrambles unless it is a charity event.
Low cost
The course isn't in the best shape, but for the money, it ain't bad. Some of the tees have little grass and you almost need a hammer to set your tee. It would also be nice if they did something to keep some of those range balls off the course. Something as simple as a net would work quite well.
Need some attention
Looks like management doesn't spend much on the upkeep of the course. Range was closed when we arrived mid morning. (no balls) Not much difference in the fairways from the roughs, hard and as a rock. don't think they have watered the golf course at all ( lots of water on the course just not using it to water the greens or fairways) . It is a pretty course but, it a shame that the management doesn't care to make repairs or spend the money to keep it up. used to be top notch. Wish for the amount we paid to play that it would have been in much much better condition
Pace of play
The tee box hasn't been mowed in quite some time. The fairways were okay, and the greens were fine. My most significant issues were the pace of play and the unfriendly staff. I don't usually write reviews, but this has been the exact case the last three times I've been. Unfortunately, I'd like to go to an affordable public course. Please get a marshall or two to spread out your tee times or encourage a better place of play. And to the older gentleman running the check-in, it would be nice if you were at least somewhat pleasant. I don't owe you anything, so please stop acting like it.
Coming back!
The golf course was hit hard this summer with the draught but with steady work by the maintenance team we survived. The course recently did a complete over seeding from Tee to Green and results are showing. With the addition of a new greens mower the greens are smooth and fast.
Save your money
We played there Monday yes I know it was a holiday they were busy but that is still no excuse for the pace of play there was 2 of us we tee off at 945 at 3 o'clock we still haven't tee off on the 18th hole yet 5 hours and 15 minutes to play 17 holes is ridiculous the greens had a blight in over half of of them so it was almost impossible to putt we played Sunday in New Market there was 3 of us and it only took 3.5 hours if you like hitting the ball and waiting 20 minutes to get to hit it again then this is the place for you I've played there a couple of times before and I don't remember it being that bad we road an hour to get there so it was an all day event it will probably be a while before we go back
BAD-BAD-BAD
This has to be the worst golf course in west virginia. You name it. It wasn't good greens, fairways, rough? Duck doo doo. Pace of play was terrible. I was in a group of 3 start it at 10:20 finished at 3:20 entirely too long.
The course is in poor condition. The fairways have little grass on the majority of holes. Limiting golf carts to the paths is a huge negative too. If it were in better condition, it would be a lot of fun to play.
Worst conditions I've ever played in
I've played it this course many times and I typically enjoy it. It's not very picturesque but it's attractive enough. It's not all that interesting, but it has its challenges. It's just kind of a steady Eddy course and it's not typically too expensive. If I had known what crap conditioner it was in this season, I wouldn't have wasted my time going out there. Just not even worth playing. Maybe it's the heat. Maybe they can't find people to take care of the facility. I don't know, but when you can't even tell the fairway from the rough and the greens look like a burlap sack half the time, but it just is n't worth playing.
