Course is in Great Shape
We have lived in the area for 11 years. This is the best condition the course has been in during that time. Lots of rain in May and June so that helps. Tee boxes could use a good leveling - the slopes limit the tee locations so the good spots get worn during the season. So far though, so good. Better yardage markers would be good. The current markers are old and "buried". 150 and 100 yrd posts in the rough would be great.
Round played on 6/11/2025
Locust Hill is a nice golf course located in Charles Town, WV.
There are five sets of tees, making it suitable for all levels of players, except beginners.
The greens and fairways are in excellent condition and the rough is at a good length.
The one flaw on the day I played was the bunkers, which had no sand, only raked dirt (fortunately, I wasn't in any of them).
The greens are more undulating than average, which adds to the quality of the golf course. My only complaint was the pin placements, all of which were near the edge of every green and often on a slope, making approach shots unreasonably difficult. The pin placements alone added at least two strokes per nine to my (and probably every else's) score.
Locust Hiil is definitely worth the $38.67 GolfNow price, and I plan to play this course again.
The staff was excellent, friendly and quick. With the service period the course was in great shape for all the rain we had.
And I guess because of that it was a little slow play. Because everyone wanted to get out today really enjoyed myself. Be back soon.
Just ok.
Greens very bumpy and needed to be swept. Not much in the way of amenities. No beverage cart. Extremely slow service at snack bar. Ball washers mostly empty. No water facilities out on course
Course was inexpensive for the round compared to other courses in the area. Because of the low price, don’t expect much of anything else.
What if….
What if they took care of this place?? It would definitely be worth what they charge. The tee boxes are in horrible shape and some of the greens appear to have been uncared for. It’s a shame because it really is a nice layout and could be a truly beautiful course like it was 12-15 years ago.
The driving range is in dire need of some upkeep, the stonework stairs are broken and waiting for someone to have an accident.
Early Season Round - Locust Hill GC
Always love playing this course. Even in off-season conditions the course still plays the perfect level between value for the money and challenging. It was still colder out, so that plush green i love to see when golfing wasn't quite there yet. But still a fantastic day to golf.
Tee boxes
Course in nice shape expect all tee boxes closed and moved into areas not trimmed
(in ruff next to boxes)
Horrible
This course used to be very decent but now it’s just declining rapidly
Unexpected
I booked a foursome for a 9:30 tee off time. Upon arrival we were informed that they were operating with a 10:00 shotgun start with 2 groups on each hole. Things were very unorganized. If I knew we weren’t actually getting a tee time I would have booked elsewhere. Other times we have golfed here were fine.
Great course
Locust Hill has always been one of my favorite layouts. Conditions have been up and down over the years, but right now is the best it’s been in a long time. I haven’t seen many area courses better than Locust Hill
Good for February!
Its February and we are playing golf! I like how everyone goes out at 10 AM in a shoot gun start so there is little to no wait. Cart path only which is understandable. Here's hoping they put in some effort to fix the greens come spring. They are in really bad shape.
A fun time on a good course
Locust Hill is a fun course just enough challenge to make you think about your shot. Course is in good shape for late in the season.
Kinda rough
The course isn't in the best shape. The greens are especially rough. They had the tee boxes moved way up, so you were teeing off on uneven ground that almost required a hammer to set your tee. I don't know if it is because they are trying to get the normal tee boxes in shape or if it was because they had a best ball scramble that day.
I really wish that the Golf Now app would let you know when you ate booking into an event like this. I'm not a fan of best ball scrambles unless it is a charity event.
