Nice course to play and excellent service
The staff here is very nice and the service is excellent !
The play pace is quite smooth!
Not as bad as Starts indicate
I've played several times and will say it is much better than the starts and reviews indicate. The new management have made some improvements and pace of play is fine. I enjoyed playing there recently. Go and enjoy!
Very good place to play now
I played many rounds at Clearview recently. I have to say better and better experiences here. The most significant improvement is the course management! The play pace is much more smooth than before. I would recommend to play here!
Improving and enjoyable
Maybe more like a "4," but putting 5 to help continue to offset the years of bad reviews with old management.
Clearview is just fine. It's not as interesting a layout as some courses, and some are in better shape, but overall, I'm satisfied. It's an enjoyable place to play, a fairly approachable layout for all levels, and it's in decent shape these days.
Bring golf balls that contrast with autumn leaves though!
Slow play
For several reasons. Tree leaves were off the charts. Even in fairway hard to finding ball. Rangers are useless in keeping pace of play with numerous open holes. Players play from Blue tees and hit drives 150yds.
I would never play this course again
It was my first time playing at this course with my dad and my husband and I must say that first of all they are a rip off because if you choose to ride the cart by yourself, you have to pay an additional $20 which makes no sense Otherwise, you are to ride with the stranger. Also, the pace of play was very slow we were backed up luckily we had an early morning tee time . The staff was kind of ridiculous because it was a cold day and there was like a little green room and we were pretty much yelled at for being in there when the door was wide open for anyone to go in and how were we supposed to know That it was off-limits.
Overall, I felt very ripped off because My dads a senior so he should’ve gotten a senior rate. They said it didnt apply on the weekend. Also doesn’t make any sense.
Would never go back!!! We ended up paying roughly 90/each with carts i’d rather go somewhere better at that rate! Clearview was a joke!
Good and Bad....
The last time I played at CL was about three years ago and I never thought about going back here again. The course was an awful condition and the management did not care about maintaining the courses at all.
But once I heard that the course has a new management and people were saying good things about it, I tried a shot the other day OMG…. It just has been 180 degrees turn from the course I knew few years ago. From tee box to the Green, the entire 18 holes were well maintained. In my opinion the course condition was similar to Bethpage courses.
Now, the main problem with the rounding was, the pace. Every hole, we had to wait at least 5 minutes and although we started at 12:30, I had to leave at 5 with three holes to play (can you imagine the pace?) At first, I thought the reason for the delay was due to an overcrowded or too many beginners on the course. But it was not the case. it was due to people who were betting on each hole. Every hole once tee shot , we can see from distance that people were were playing as if the PGA title is on the line (pre-swing 4 to 5 times, analyzing the wind, circling the green, ball mark on every putt etc). Then I saw the money exchange once the hole is finished!!!! And of course there were other groups front of them not even teeing on the next hole. And I was told from my partner that a lot of people are playing so called skins game on each hole and that is the main causes of the clogging.
Not sure if everyone is betting on the game, But based on my experience on the other day, it seems many people do play that game. I mean, I don't want to generalizing any group nor the player, but even so, the management should enforce some rules regarding the pace of the game The CL can be one of a hidden gem in the NY metro and L/I areas. But because of the pace, I am really hesitant to go back there again. I just can’t imagine playing 5 hours on week day (imaging how long it will take for weekend)..
