Great municipal course in NYC
Tees / greens / fairways all in immaculate condition, especially considering all the play that this course gets. Greens are huge and sloping (unlike many municipal courses, with flat boring greens).
Wide-open (like most links courses), which makes the round more fun and playable. Yet still definitely challenging with the wind and the difficult green complexes.
Pro shop was very helpful in squeezing me in as a single on a busy Saturday. Walked for $39, great deal for NYC.
Not overly penal. A great course for the average player.
Needs More Ruff !!!
Always Very Windy & Very Slow Pace Of Play,Ranger Didn't Tell Foresome In Front Of Us To Speed There Pace Of Play Up Till The 14th Hole,51/2 Hour Round,Terrible !!!
Decent muni course
Decent muni course - fair amount of ongoing work on a couple of holes
shot makers course
this course can be so much better with some more effort
Nice open course, but has it's share of city woes.
Play during the week and you're in for a nice round. Play on the weekend and settle in for a 6 hour hike. As far as the course, they've done a nice job fixing it up, but there are a few ridiculous (sloped) greens and they often don't help themselves with poorly placed pins.
Keeps getting better
Many improvements over the past year getting better all the time.
Nothing special! Most holes look the same with little variation.
Ok, but nothing special Very bland. Wouldn't recommend course to anyone
A Challenging Links-Style Trent Jones Design
This is a nice course, but it can be a real challenge. It’s a links style course designed by Robert Trent Jones, and it features his trademark small greens with lots of slope. Also most of the greens are guarded by big bunkers. The course is only about 7,000 yards, but on a windy day it can feel like 7,500. I think most people will appreciate the simplicity of this design since there aren’t any tricks here to make the course artificially difficult. It is a straight forward test of skill and course-management. You must position yourself off the tee in order to have a good angle at the green, and you must leave your approach shot below the hole if you hope to make birdie. The rough isn’t very thick, there aren’t many trees, and there’s only one water hazard, but this course will really punish you if you aren’t focused.
Management has made some good improvements to the course, and I expect that it will get better and better. I’m glad to see that they are replacing the sand in some of the bunkers. Next I hope that they laser-level the tees, because some of them are noticeably uneven. But overall this is my favorite city course.
Great course in Brooklyn
The Robert Trent Jones Sr design is classic. Alittle TLC in the course and it would be one of the best courses in the area.
Great staff, extremely challenging greens, SLOW PLAY
Renovations still going on but you can tell there is a lot of money going into this course. New tee boxes are in excellent condition. Staff was fantastic from the pro shop to the starter and at the bar, very friendly. Greens were in ok condition given that it is January, but there isn't a flat putt to be found here which can be a bit frustrating. Lots of severe slopes with very difficult pin placements, but since the course itself is quite easy, there has to be a challenge somewhere. The biggest problem here is pace of play - nearly 6 hours!!
Good, cold , Golf to enjoy !
Marginal conditions, because of the cold weather was fast to play! Enjoyable experience!

The course has come a long way.
When I started playing golf Marine was the course i went to to practice, good thing i had cheap irons - I remember when. Under current management the course has been improved tremendously and the quality of play is great. I can truly appreciate the new rules for players that has made the course feel more organized. Shout out to Mike G. and his team -- great job! I like forward to the continued improvements. Marine is worth the value.
Great course, One of the best in NYC area
This course has some terrible reviews, so i stayed away from it. but i played it yesterday and found it delightful. You can see there is a major reconstruction going on and the course is really shaping up. I think once the work is done it will be truly outstanding.
The pace of play was really great, no waiting on people in front and no one breathing down our back.
My only 'complaint' was a pin placement on hole ?? (10?) The pin was place on such a steep sloop that it was absolutely impossible. The only way to finish that hole was to knock it in the cup, which was extreme. If you was above the cup and tapped it 1 inch it would roll 50 feet past the cup and off the green.
If you were below the cup and putted uphill you would reach the cup it would pause then roll back down off the green. it was rather comical actually. Overall the green were in really nice shape, the fairways and tee boxes as well.
There are other little things that need to be fixed, for example there are a lot of Signs that were missing (stolen?) then ones that existed were faded and should be repainted or replaced.
Overall I highly recommend this course, if you have never played it you owe it to yourself to play it at least once. That being said I played it with some locals who play it several times per week and it was nice to have a ‘caddy’ with us. It is the type of course you have to play a lot to get good at.
Good course but needs some work
3 weeks after aeration and with other course renovation in process, course condition needs work to get back to where it should be and make this worth regular play.
Took just over 5 hrs to play on a Monday, definitely too long. Tough pin placements and the lengthening of tee boxes didn't help.
