Golfer Reviews
Very Thick Rough
If you are accustomed to hitting hybrids out of the rough, don’t bother here. The rough is very thick.
decent enough
fine for the price and distance from the city. 17 identical holes outside of one par 3 that was slightly prettier than the others. as usual with public courses, they stack 6 groups on a hole, we waited for 30 minutes to tee off the fourth hole. back 9 was a bit clearer but when we got back to the clubhouse the grill was open yet refused to make a few hot dogs because they were “almost” closed. dude, just make the hot dog, you’re literally open and we just got done sweating for 5 hours. absolutely ridiculous.
Very Nice Muni
The course was in very good shape for this time of year and the round was very enjoyable. The tee times were spaced out properly which helped pace of play. The course is narrow so inevitably you have players looking for golf balls gone astray! Staff friendly and efficient. I notice that golfers playing from the wrong tees is the biggest cause of disrupting the pace of play.
Great Course
Awesome and great course for the money and condition.
Good to be back!!
I have not played this course in over 10 years as the maintenance was lacking. The greens were horrific and overall it just didn't make sense to play a course that wasn't given any attention. I read some reviews and heard that money has been invested into the course and things have been upgraded. I am so glad that I came back and played my favorite courses in New York City. This is the course I started playing golf many many moons ago and it's so nice to see it back in its beautiful and gorgeous condition. The pace of play was not bad as we finished the round in 4 and 1/2 hours. The new clubhouse and the amenities were excellent and breakfast was delicious. The whole staff was friendly as always. Not only will I recommend this to anybody and everybody,. I'm also looking forward to playing this many more times.
This course may not suit experienced players and visitors
A few shortcomings:
1. The clubs offered for rental are very rusted and out-dated model. Too many fairway woods / hybrid but no short game clubs. And the charge is not cheap, ie $22 per round.
2. The cart fee is not cheap either, ie $35 per cart.
3. So I’d say the green fee is quite reasonable, $54 for Monday morning tee. But the costs of club rental and cart, in total of $57, are relatively expensive.
4. The staff at the reception did not respond with welcoming attitude towards me as a random visitor. Just like carrying out their routines. Since I arrived earlier than my booked tee time, the staff just pushed me to a team of 3, not even intending to “ask” for my consent.
5. The worst part is there are a few holes where the green is just right next to the tee box of another hole, ie Hole 9, 10, 11, 12. Players have to be very cautious when tee off from a tee box or putting on a green. And there are no clear signages to warn the players. When my team mate stood up on the tee box of Hole 9, he was almost hit by a ball (slice) from the tee box of Hole 10 which was only 100 yards. Something have to do to avoid serious accidents.
6. The pace of play was not good, even it’s a Monday morning. Our team of 4 spent almost 5 hours to finish 18 holes.
Overall, if you are a beginner golf, I think this course can offer not bad conditions, as the fairways and greens are quite well maintained. But if you’re a seasoned golfer looking for a reasonable level of professional golf course, I believe this course would let you down.
But I believe if the management of the golf course would pay more attention to some details, I’d love to give a much higher rating and recommendation.
Great municipal course we are lucky to have it
Greens in great shape - pace of play can be a challenge but in light of the amount of play no complaints
