Colts Neck Golf Club
About
Colts Neck Golf Club is one of central New Jersey's most popular courses. The diverse course offers everything from Scottish-style bunkers to sparkling lakes. Tall golden fescue rough borders the fairways and the greens are large and undulating. The course is seemingly short at only 6,236 yards but it shouldn't be taken lightly. It's much more challenging than it appears. The layout finishes with two of its toughest holes. The 17th has a tough green fiercely guarded by out-of-bounds and the course saved the most difficult hole for last. This par 3 will test even the most seasoned golfers. In addition to the golf course, Colts Neck also has a 25-station driving range that stays open late. It's a great spot for getting in some practice after work.

Nice Round on a Chilly Fall day
Pro shop staff and starter were friendly and accommodating. Played a nice sub 4 hour round with two members. Course was in very good condition with only spotty bare/browning spots. Course is not extremely difficult but is challenging enough for an average golfer like myself.
Colts Neck - fix the uneven tee boxes for 5 stars
The only reason I did not give Colts Neck five stars was because on every tee box, the ground was uneven so you had to really search for a level stance. I asked the male golfer if the tees were uneven at the tips (he said not all, but some). Well the ladies tees were all uneven.
The layout of the course provided variety - some holes had forced carry's over waste area off the tees, some doglegs, etc.. The par 3's were fair with just one being so long (160 to the back pin placement) that it required a driver from all three female golfers in our group.
Pace of play was not great for the fall when the course did not appear to be too crowded (4 hr 32 min round), but the pace was partly caused by the two we were paired with who were slow players (three practice swings, UGH) and walking (and some of the distances between greens and tees were long for walkers - for example, between 11 and 12). Plus the group in front of back us up on 15 (a par 5) because one guy was taking a phone call in the middle of the fairway. We actually yelled to him to "hit the ball." What is wrong with people! I mention this because they did have a ranger (which is great but they can't catch every offender).
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The golf carts were electric, quiet, fast and had a nice GPS system. We ate in the grill after the round and the food was good. The ladies locker room was very nice (note: this is a semi-private course). The Pro Shop had an end-of-season sale and I was happy to see they did have a variety of sizes for women.
Overall a very nice course!
Great rate $60
Refuse to pay $100 for green fees on a semi-private course so i waited for off season .
FYI: NAYS!!
Range balls $9 a bucket.
No alcoholic beverages served to non-members.
Snack Hut at 12th hole closed.
Started round on Hole 3
rained all day
YEAHS!!
Fun course
will be back.
Beautiful course
This course is a short track but don’t let that fool you. The course is in great shape. It forces you to hit a good drive. The course was in excellent shape. They maintain everything very well. The sand traps are very nice and raked out. The greens were in good shape. The views are beautiful on most of the holes. We played with a gentleman Tom who used to be a member and he was a total joy to play with. The starter was very friendly. My sister and I will return to play this course again. I highly recommend playing this course.
Staff great, members not so much
Played 18. Course terribly backed up mid week. Waited 10 -15 minutes on numerous holes. Ran into some members (we were not) and they were rude, almost accusatory that we pulled up near them at the tee box, because they had to wait for players in front of them. They had snarky remarks. Then the walked so slow off the greens, like they were trying to annoy us. No, it was not an age reason for the slow-walk jab.
We were guests and the members trated us like crap.
Honesty?
Played several times, good course and experience. This time forgot my Garmin GPS in the cart. Called the next day and the following day - not turned in. Only reasonable explanation is one of the cart people who clean the carts after turning them in kept it. I expected better of an upscale place like this. For this reason I will not return.
Nice course. Would play again
Got great rate of $40 on GN! Grabbed it night before. Normally $80 or more I think. Enjoyable layout. Greens fairways and tee boxes in great shape. No real water damage I could see from recent storms either. Good drainage. Highly recommend!
Colts Neck
Nice track. Very playable. Not a long course. Placement is key.
Greens were fast, yet true.
Would recommend ad will play again.
Nice day at a nice course
Course was in great shape. We played as a twosome and finished in 3 hours. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Great condition
Course was in great condition, greens were quick but really good shape. Played true to 4 hr round. Would recommend.
Pleasantly surprised!
I usually know a course is good, when I am thinking about how I would play some of my shots differently the day after.
Visiting from San Diego where the courses can typically be extremely challenging with narrow fairways, unplayable hazards or play longer from uphill/downhill layouts, this course was a surprising challenge.
The course designer here really had the modern game in mind. Fairways are mostly all safe, but the high risk/reward shots may add a stroke or two if missed (I spent more time at the beach than in San Diego.)
This is a great course for shot shapers and wound up really having to work both draws and fades equally throughout the round.
Well placed and spaced fairway bunkers and doglegs kept me guessing between a 3 wood and driver off the tee to reach greens in two on the par 4s and 5s. Greens bunkers positioned well and some deep on downslopes.
Greens were fairly large but can make for some long challenging putts if you hit them. The greens here were incredibly difficult for me to read on my first go around and some of it was tricky pin placement.
The only caveats about the course were some of the unrepaired divots on the greens (c'mon guys, repair one and one other!)
Sand was inconsistent. Some packed and heavy (likely from sprinklers or rain, others ok.)
As others noted, this is a private club so concessions are members only.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
I tried to delete this but Golf Now does not allow deleting or editing reviews nor can they do it on their end. I was frustrated by losing a $350 GPS. Hard to believe it vanished.
