Good enough to work on your game
If you are looking for an off season round or one to get you back into the game, then Gambler's is a good choice.. Rates are reasonable.
For the middle of January it was worth it to get out and play. Fairways were not wet when we played.
The average rating is because the tee boxes need work as well as the rough areas. Greens were decent for this time of year. The course needs a little TLC if it want to compete with its neighbor at Cream Ridge.
A Course in Need of Help
So I understand its winter here in the northeast, but its been very mild with no snow in this part of NJ. The course was 45 dollars which is not a lot, but it needs a lot of work. The golf carts were in very poor shape and barely moved. The greens were not terrible, but the tee boxes looked like people were smashing shovels on the surface with huge gouges taken out of most boxes. The bunkers have not been touched in weeks and are washed out and in terrible shape. For a pretty full course on a day its 45 degrees, I'm guessing the course could at least send a few grounds guys out to fill divots and rake bunkers. Hanover Golf Club a few miles away is a far better value.

Fun round
Excellent winter round. The greens and fairways were wet, but playable. It is always a fun round at Gambler Ridge.

Nice layout
Has a nice layout but the greens are very bumpy. They really need to be rolled. Great food at the bar.

More golf, less searching
It was really nice playing a course that was not covered with leaves. Lately the courses we have been playing for the last month you had a 50 percent chance of losing your ball even if you landed in the fairway. Staff should be commended on the conditions and playability of the course. Good course to play if you are sick of getting beat up and just want to go out and hit some balls and kill an afternoon. Hopefully will be able to return soon.

Great bang for your buck
For what it is, gamblers ridge is a good course. the fairways and most tee boxes were in decent shape. Bunkers were also in pretty good shape and most of them had more than adequate sand. It is evident that they are making cosmetic changes, such as painting the fences on the course from red to green. My only complaint about gamblers ridge is the greens. They are slow and bumpy. This appears to be due to a lack of mowing and no rolling. Other than the speed and consistency of the greens, I believe that gamblers ridge is a great course for the money, especially if you walk.
