Golfer Reviews
Fantastic views from this coarse
This is a challenging coarse with many blind shots to greens. If you don't like steep fairways both downhill and up and tricky greens you will not like this coarse.
Bring a Caddie or a Sherpa
The course itself is in great shape, except for the tee boxes. Most of them could uses some work, especially when you're in the woods. Put me in the group that finds hole #4 (their signature hole) a bit goofy. I was 135 out in the fairway in 2, and couldn't see any part of the green or flag, since it drops about 75' from the fairway. If you have good control off the tee, you can drive some of these downhill holes as it's in hard/running shape. But like others have said you may want a guide the first time around just to see where these blind shots lead to, and to find your way around where the paths cross. Also, the views on some of the tees are fantastic!
Jaw Dropping Views
The scenery is spectacular, which contributes to the difficulty. Lots of hills to contend with. Hole 4, a par 5, unbelievably ends with a shot down the mountain. Make sure you inspect the hole after the drive or you could end up in big trouble. And, ask for the booklet that describes the holes and give tips on where to direct shots. Finally, we saw a mama bear and two cubs on one hole. Definitely a course to play again.
A challenging, fun round with beautiful views.
This was my second trip to Skyview. Being a county course, it can be pricey without a county card, but with the Golfnow deal, it is well worth the trip. The course is plenty challenging for even experienced golfers with a mix of tight fairways, out of sight greens, elevation changes, and natural hazards with some holes still wide open and less challenging. The clubs house has fair drink and food prices. Can't wait to go back.
Tough but entertaining course
Tight fairways and lots of blind landings make for a very challenging course. The vistas from several holes are breathtaking. Greens were pretty quick. Bring LOTS of balls if you are not a controlled golfer. If you are not in the fairway or just in the rough, you'll be searching for your ball, and probably not finding it. But it's a beautiful layout, and a lot of fun when you do make your shots. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Scenic Test of Golf!
Skyview really is one of the most scenic courses in NJ, it seems like it belongs up in the Appalachian mountains. Course was in great shape and it really played difficult, maybe a little too much for anyone not breaking 90 regularly. The only suggestion I have is make all brush/shrub/wooded areas lateral hazards, eliminating the need for second tee shots. I think this would speed up play greatly. All in all, beautiful course, well maintained, and very scenic
Mountain course
this course needs to be advertised as a mountain course and will require many up and down climbs from cart to tee box and from cart to greens.
Too many blind shots and the fourth hole is a joke, a blind shot to a green 200 feet below and you can't see the green from 150 out.
There we at least two times were I was not sure I was playing to the correct fairway until I paired up with some experienced players.
The greens were great and enjoyable to play with many breaks but very readable.
I play with a group of seniors and some would struggle with getting to and from the cart to greens. Need to make some greens more accessible to the cart paths.
This course has besutiful views.
Beware the par 5 4th hole. Either feast or famine depending upon how accurate your drive is.
Nice diversity of holes. Worth playing, especially when you can get a discounted tee time.
Interesting course
It is interesting course but could not play all 18holes because of rain.
Started from 10th hole till 1st hole.
No idea how is good from 2nd hole to 9th hole.
Very disoppointed could not play whole course.
Extreme Mountain Course
Very challenging course due to mountain terrain (steep ups and downs), many narrow fairways and 8 holes of cart path only. Greens were decent, but bumpy. Scenery was the best - great views from many holes.
This course has a nice view of sussex county
After we got discount from golf now, was perfect place to play . was a little rainy the day we played but would say if you hit it straight you`ll have a good time too
Good value
This course played well after all the rain. It was cart path only but all holes were open. The greens had been aerated about a week ago but they were in good shape. We started on the back 9 and we never slowed down. We started the round at 2:40 and finished by 6:15. At this price ($30 Hot deal) I would recommend to anyone that wants to play a quality course.
Greens just aerated 4/28/14
I arrived at the course 30 minutes early and discovered they had just aerated all of the greens. Fairways and tee boxes are in good condition and carts were allowed on course. The restaurant and half-way house were closed today. The staff was friendly and very accomodating. I practiced at their driving range for 10 minutes and then allowed to go out as a single. I completed the round in 2+45.
I enjoy this course because: I've played it once before and it's all about ball placement.
Challanging but fair
First time there and didn't know where to go. Had a lot of fun . Will play again
Change of pace
Course has a lot of blind shots, tough to score without knowledge of the track
Skyview the hidden gem
As always I love this course don't be fooled by the length there are some really tough holes out there. I played this with snow still on the ground in spots so not much to review. But as always there greens are kept amazing they roll great. And it will test your patience threw out the Round.
Rough
Good course, very difficult for the average player, greens still covered in snow but what can you honestly expect for March golf after a particularly harsh winter. Some holes (especially #2) feel like the go on for miles, but others at a different time of the year would be very picturesque
First-time players need local knowledge and should try to pair with someone who knows the course.
A great deal of elevation change and some holes are blind shots. Accurate shots, target golf are a must to be successful. The course was overall very well maintained and pace of play very good.
Always fun to play Skyview.
Skyview is a well run operation. They often try to engage members and the public alike though their emails. The course is fun to play with a variety of personality in the holes. The two par fives on the front reek havoc for some. Especially the fourth hole. My playing partners whine about four every time. I view it as quite a challenge and actually appreciate the precision and strategy required. Waiting for you at the end of the fairway is one of the most spectacular views in NJ. Overall a good play.
