Berkshire Valley has a scenic location in the Highlands region of northern New Jersey. It is known as one of best public golf courses in the area. The course is perched atop the ridge of Green Pond Mountain, providing a dramatic topography for a challenging round of golf. The front of the golf course was carefully carved from a hillside, featuring narrow fairways that place a premium on accuracy. The first five holes are particularly scenic as well as formidable. There are some open holes that play along the cliffs, subjecting them to the prevailing winds, one of these is the intimidating par-5 third. The Berkshire Valley golf course finishes with its signature hole. This hole can be deceiving since it has a generous fairway, but the second shot is uphill to a tough green.

Beautiful scenery, great layout

Super fun course. Challenging but fair. Back nine very scoreable.

Layout lends itself to some back ups on some holes

Great course Terrible pace of play

This course is beautiful great layout however pace of play is horrible There was 2 times I had to call the pro shop because there was 3 groups on the hole and 1 was a par 3. We had to wait on every shot. They probably need to add a minute or 2 between tee times. The staff is excellent and the food tent on the course is very good

Great course, great condition, Grumpy starter

Always great to drive an hour to get out of the car and be met by a miserable, crotchety old guy who scolds you for putting your golf bag on a golf cart. After getting past Scrooge the rest of the staff were very accommodating and the course was in excellent condition. Love the halfway grill drink set up.

Pace of play was bad

The course itself is beautiful. Some really nice holes but it isn't easy. The starter is a really grumpy old man. We found him to be grumpy yelling at people but got a good laugh cause he wasn't yelling at us. Everyone else is very polite and accommodating. Monster complaint was the pace of play. We had a 4some that caught 2 groups who t off 30 minutes before us. We caught them on 9 after they let the group ahead of us pass them. They were walking around hitting from anywhere and hitting the ball about 20 yards off the tee and that was on every t box. We skipped the par 3 and went ahead of them and thank God we did. We played a 4 hr 25 min round. There's no doubt they were playing a 5h 15 min round. We didn't see any rangers out there after hole 5. It is what it is and we made the most of it.

5 1/2 round

Nice course but horrible pace of play. Tee times are spaced way too close. Had to wait at first tee box and at every hole afterwards. Took 5 1/2 hours to play 18 on a Monday afternoon. Can only imagine how slow it is on a weekend. If you’re looking for a crisp 4 hour round, this is not the place for you. Will take my business elsewhere.

Favorite NJ Public Course - by far!

I’ve played at Berkshire probably 15-20+ times in the last 3 years (I only started playing golf for 3 years) - and I’ll come another 50+ times in the future!

I’ve played pretty much every public golf course within 1 hour drive of Morris County - Berkshire is my undisputed champ of them all!

It never gets old, it’s always fun & interesting, views are best in Jersey (even beats most private courses that are ‘cookie cutter). What set the bar even higher is the service lately

A new gentleman (I believe a new manager?) started named Rob and his service was country club quality! Great guy, has a hospitality background and it shows in spades.

After another fun and amazing round - his service at the clubhouse/restaurant today was next level. Super friendly, genuine, and a positive attitude that was infectious.

If Berkshire invested a bit in their clubhouse/restaurant and overall facilities this could honestly be a high-quality country club given the amazing golf course itself. That being said, I’m perfectly happy with it staying ‘as is’ since the golf fees are extremely reasonable (especially as a Morris county resident card holder)

Rob I believe is a newer hire and kudos for Berkshire management for bringing him in: he really is a great brand ambassador for Berkshire and provides over the top great service!

Looking forward to my next round at Berkshire soon!
