Hole #9 "Vista" Photo submitted by David2342364 on 07/17/2013
Different interesting nice.
Very hilly and tough course. A few holes are a bit silly with crazy 150' elevation change and straight uphill and downhill holes but overall very interesting and challenging. Not your everyday course but fun to play and well maintained. Nice staff.
Scenic, short yet tricky course...
I went to this course just a few days ago (March), and they had just opened for the year. It reminds me of a little Wild Turkey in terms of the layout and rolling hills. The par 4s are definitely short (315 to 380 or so) and narrow, but there are some beautiful holes. I used my driver on just about every par 4, leaving me with a 90 and less yard lob wedge into the green. Next time I play there, I will be sure to hit long irons/hybrids off the tee. You do not want to miss long over the green on almost every hole, or you're in trouble. Large boulders are on some holes, which gives the course a kind of 'cut out of the mountain' feel, which I liked. Fairways and greens are bent grass- very nice. A few challenging holes (#2 is a par 5 on a constant incline- you're teeing off basically onto a hill and hitting your second and third shots off your back foot). Hole 4 is also very difficult, but nice par 5. Blind tee shot to an extremely narrow, funneled fairway. You're left with an approach to the edge of a cliff where you're shooting to the green blind over the cliff about 80 feet below you. I somehow birdied it not knowing what in the world I was doing. Overall, definitely worth the money- The Pro, Sean, was a pleasant fellow. Very informative and friendly.
No flat lies
Mountian goats and other hill climbing mammels will love this place. Takes a few times around to figure this place out . Bllind tee shots over hills, raised greens, deep bunkers. Greens in great condition despite being recently core aerated. Not too long, a few holes play long from the tips though.
Rude membership and not worth the money
We showed up on a Friday afternoon and went to drop our bags off when a "member" started yelling at us because he saw we had a small cooler for our waters. I appreciate the policy of no water coolers, but the attitude from this member was unnecessary. I've never been to a public or semi-private course that doesn't allow you to drink your own water. . The course is gimmicky and I would rather spend my money playing Wild Turkey or Bowling Green. This course isn't worth the headache or attitude.
Excellent Condition and Views
I played this course several times in the Summer and Fall of 2012 and enjoyed the layout and the views. You have to play it once or twice due to a couple of unique hole layouts, but it is very manageable once you know it. The fairways and greens are in excellent shape, and it has the best views of any NJ course I have played. Big hitters will have an advantage on a few holes, but the course relies more on accuracy and positioning. Bring your short game! One of my favorite courses in the area and I plan to play it frequently.
A Shotmaker's Course
This course was not designed just for the long hitters. The biggest advantage is to the golfer that you can use all of the clubs in the bag. You have to play this course a couple of times to get an appreciation of the novel design of some of the holes. Your second shot, assuming a reasonable drive, whether an approach or layup, is often the deciding factor on the score. I have only played the course a few times, but I have seen bombers complain that it is too short and then proceed to mangle their score with a poor short game. Accuracy and the short game are the keys to Sky View.
I only get to play one/week during the Summer and early Fall, but will make Sky View a regular. If I were retired and still living near Sparta I would seriously consider buying the full membership.
SCENIC
This is a mountain course, challenging due to the many elevation changes. Like the fact it stays open during winter, weather permitting. It's a course that you will play better after you learn it & play a few times ... #3 for example - learned the secret is to put your 2nd shot on the blind landing pad before the steep hill down to the green. Very scenic course - Iike it & will play again.
Some maintained course but bad layout
green and fairway was some maintained, but the layout was seriously bad. In case of some par 5 holes, just 170 yds remained after 240-250 drive. Just a few holes were challengable. I would like to recommend this golf course just in
case that you can not book the other course in the beautiful weekend weather.
Great course, a must play.
Many blind shots, so it is wise to play the course a few times to familiarize yourself with the layout and target landing area distances. Accuracy is a premium and a big penalty is to be had for poor shots. The views cannot be beat; every hole is nicer than the previous one.
Terrific conditions
Well maintained. A few unfair, difficult holes with blind shots. Beautiful vistas and challenging golf. Highly recommended.
Great shape, even with fall leave. staff constanly blowing off leaves
Great shape, even with fall leave. staff constanly blowing off leaves
nice moutain course
not a long course, but needs good positionings with narrow fairways. views are great. green can be faster though.
Where is the Ranger?
Wished the Rangers on this course had balls.
Had a 4some in front of us betting on every put, took forever.
On the 9th hole they teed off, drove 200 yards, then on of the idiots drove all the way back and wanted to tee off again.
No Rangers?
Nice course
Played this course twice this year early spring and late summer, both times found the course to be in good shape and well maintained. Only negatives I noticed were some of the black top paths were broken up and steep. Driving range can come into play if you mishit your drives. Overall appearance of the club house and facilities were nice, would play this course again.
