Great December Golf
Cold and no one in the course. For the time of year, could not ask anything more. Course was in great condition being the monsoon storm recently.
Lots of rain ...
During the week as well as light drizzle throughout the round, but the course was still in great shape. Drains really well. Very Nice course!
Perfect Fairways, QUICK Greens
Nicely designed course with relatively wide fairways lined with trees and QUICK greens. Lots of bunkers all over, with a good deal of them serving more as visual obstacles sitting anywhere from 100-200 yards from the tee. Bunkers around some of the greens were DEEP! But the sand is thin/light and can easily be cut through to get the ball up and out. That being said, we had a few bunker shots sail on us just because you can really make good contact out of the green-side bunkers. Given the speed of the greens, you really need to make sure you are landing in the right section to have a shot at the hole. Downhill putts just keep going, and many of the greens feature bumps (or "knolls", hence the name!) typical of older designed courses. Course was in great shape and we were able to get our round in with a 12:27PM tee time on a Monday (and a 4:45PM sunset). Also, the par 3 13th hole was unlike anything I've seen before. Really interesting design!
Enjoyable Round
Played at 1:30pm on a Tuesday. Pace of play was excellent. Played as 2 singles and a twosome. All worked to keep the pace moving. Finished in 3:50. The course is extremely well maintained. Not many exposed divots in the fairways. Fressh pitch marks, but no scars on the greens. Greens were fast, true and fair.
The layout is wonderful and easy to walk.
Highly recommend this course and will play again.
Great Course
Nice clean fairways and greens this time of year, very accommodating and helpful staff, loved the layout. Doesn’t feel cramped like a lot of NYC area courses. 1hr 15min drive from Brooklyn. My new favorite in the area.
Knoll West Golf Course
Course is classic Charles Banks design. Challenging but fair. Course is in great shape.
Knoll West - A Banks Gem
Out of the gate - Knoll West is not Knoll East. Two entirely different courses: Knoll West is quasi semi-private and is a championship caliber course. Just skip East altogether.
Par 70 at almost 6900 yards from the back tees, this is a big boy course with an interesting layout, some seriously tricky contoured greens on some holes and a 250 yard par 3 when maxed out.
It's a Charles Banks architected course, who also did:
Essex County CC, Forsgate, Francis Byrne, Rock Spring, Hackensack GC, Yale GC among others. His signature style is apparent at Knoll West as well.
Really nice track, they are putting money into the course and when the greens are fast and conditions are dry this is one hard, fun course.
Play it.
Another Banks Classic layout
another old school golf course...ideal conditions and good pace of play. must play course...if you like forsgate, francis byrne,, essex county country club. all fav bank courses
A fair old school challenge
This is a very solid choice to play. The fairways are reasonably wide and mostly tree lined, and if you do hit it into the woods your penalty is fair. Pitch it out and move on. The greens are huge, with plenty of undulations. So aiming for the center of the green doesn’t necessarily mean you have an automatic two putt. If your putting is on, you can score at this course. Bunkers are almost all pancake flat with deep rough walls. It’s a great value if you use a Golf Now discount, but the full fare is a bit steep to make it a regular place for me. It’s worth an hour drive to get to though, and the conditions of the course were very acceptable. Overall it deserves a place in the seasonal tour.
Very Good!
Really nice golf course. Semi private, but they allow the public to play at certain times. Very good conditions. Some bunker shots are very very tough.
I would definitely play again.
The greens had been airated, should have considered reducing price as it does impact a persons game with the greens being that way . The course is got a good layout , pretty open .
