Pace: normal for NYC
Course condition: a little beat up, greens are in okay shape, some tee boxes are crap. But overall very playable
Course layout: lots of blind shots, had the group behind me hit up on me several times. Not there fault but a little annoying. The course overall is to hilly for my liking.
Overall: would go back now that I know what I am getting into with the blind shots.
Hidden gem
The staff was great. And real good Covid 19 procedures. I loved the course layout. Lots of hidden flags makes you have to hit to a specific location. If you like wide open links golf...you won’t find it here. The greens are slow..but you’ll get use to them. The rough is not bad....and that’s a good thing if you’re not accurate. Expect a 4 hour round. And, when I played there was no cart girl and no water on the course (Covid 19)....so bring your favorite beverage.
Don't go if rain is in the forecast!
it rained so hard, there was thunder and lightening for over 30 minutes.
No warning sounded from the club house.
Only complete 4 holes - Course Policy- No Rain Checks!!
Awful Conditioning
We will not return to this course given the extremely poor condition it was in. Tee boxes are thick with crab grass. Fairway lies are almost always uneven. Some greens are diseased and partly bald. In playable condition this would be a fun course, although I'm not a fan of numerous blind spots, even from the tee.
Fallen off
Over the past 2 months or so, for whatever reason, the course has almost become unplayable. Which is unfortunate because it’s been one of my favorite local courses with friendly staff. However, the fairways and greens are in rough shape. Some of the greens aren’t actually green anymore. Hopefully they can find a way to spruce up the course.
Wet course and miserable day
It stopped raining 10 min before my tee time. The course was in bad condition, a lot of puddles. In general the course is not well maintained. It is bad, because this place has a great potential. Just needs somebody with vision and love for golf to make it better. You can recognize from miles away that this is a public golf course.
By the way, because of the rule "no walk-ins" the pace was great. Anytime before I played the wait is minimum 1 hour - they accept walk-ins and don't keep the tee-times. Terrible management.
No ranger to keep the pace of play. Players seen hitting more than one ball at a time.
Really poor course conditions
We played at 6am, the second off the tee. We waited at least 4 minutes at every hole for the group in front of us, who had carts. We were walking. Perhaps the started can shoot them off on the back 9 first to alleviate this next time.
The first 3 holes we were followed by an employee using a leaf blower on each of the tees, which I’ve never seen before during rounds being played. There were large sections of the fairways that were cordoned off bc of mud, holes and plain awful surfaces. The tee boxes were in awful condition, either completely bare or looked like they hadn’t been trimmed in over a month.
All this aside, perhaps the craziest thing was on the 5th hole par 3. After waiting a few minutes for the group ahead to finish, we step up to the tee box only to look down at the green and employee was changing the flag location! In the middle of the round! I’ve literally never seen anything like it. Overall poor course experience and I won’t be going back.
