About
Opened in 2001, Great Rock Golf Club is one of the newer golf clubs in Long Island but it feels much older thanks to its scenic landscape of rolling green hills covered with mature forests. The mountainous landscape provides plenty of elevation changes that make it difficult to find a flat lie. At 6,254 yards, the course is short but it is still a challenging round with narrow, tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. There is hardly any water on the golf course but with strategically placed bunkers, sidehill lies, and towering trees to contend with, golfers will hardly notice the absence of water hazards. Great Rock's signature hole is the challenging 10th. This par-4 beast is a double uphill climb with a seemingly flat green, but if you read it that way, you're in for some trouble.

Course is in terrible shape
The fairway is 100% crab grass. Greens are in rough shape and the rough areas aren't maintained at all. Course is in terrible shape.
What A Shame
So sad to see one of the prettiest most interesting courses on Long Island in such awful shape. We got a deal for $25 per person so we figured we’d give it another try. It was in pretty bad shape two years ago. Considering it takes an hour to get there, even $25 wasn’t worth it. As someone mentioned....play it before it closes for good......what a shame!

What happened
Played here 6 years ago. Crabgrass has taken over the fairways and tee boxes. Greens were burned out in spots. It needs work. Liked the layout and we had a fun round. Winter rules a must

Needs new management
What a shame still a nice course but not what it use to be. The bones of the course are still there. But could use a lot of TLC.

Such a shame
I’ve played this course numerous times in the past and loved it. Great layout and it’s usually in very good condition. This is no longer the case. There were weeds filling up the bunkers and crab grass all over the fairways. The greens had numerous bald spots. It looks like the only maintenance they do now is mow the lawn and they are still charging full price. I won’t go back until they take some pride in the course. It could be a gem

Great Rock not so Great
Where do I start. At one time, 10 years Great Rock was a well maintained course. Fast forward to today: This course without a doubt is in the WORST condition imaginable.
The tee boxes are 100% Crab Grass and it needs to be cut. The fairways are also filled with Crab Grass. The greens are in decent shape due to no one playing at the course. The traps are
Not maintained and has grass growing in all the traps. I suspect that there is no head groundskeeper and no Pro.
This is so sad for me to see. Great Rock could be the best course in Long Island because of the beautiful terrain. It is the hilliest course that reminds me of an upstate course.
Get out and play before it closes for good.

Too bad about this place
I have played this course for years, but apparently it is for sale and it is not being maintained at all. Crab grass on the tee boxes and grass growing in the sand traps. No ranger and pace of play is terrible. Restaurant is closed so there is no food or alcohol. Really sad about this, because the course layout is great-I wont be back unless it's under new management.

Too many damage greens
When I played this course last year it was in very good condition that time. However, there was too many damaged greens when I played today. No doubt there was no delay at all.

Greens need overhaul
Nice friendly staff, The greens here are a mess. They need a complete overhaul.
The tee boxes where not In great shape either but not as bad as the greens

Don’t Bother playing here
Do not waste your $$$. The course has fallen in disrepair. Tee Boxes Ofer grown and not mowed, fairways are barely recognizable. The only saving grace were the “ok” greens. The cost has no liquor and is for all intent and purposes an abandoned piece of property. The course closed 4-5 years ago and new ownership came in. Sad that it has come to this. Avoid!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pace of play was great because no one was there.

The course conditions do the hot weather have dried up some area's but the greens were still fast and playable, fun to play looking to play again soon

Great Rock needs work
Course is still a nice track but it is clearly in transition to something. I didn’t realize so much crabgrass could surface so quickly. It is obvious that the owners aren’t doing maintenance. Traps are unkempt tees are loaded with crab grass and the rough and fairways are also overrun with crabgrass and weeds. Former areas of fescue are gone. Water hazards on holes 4 and 14 are now reed filled. The greens are still ok but if they let them go like the rest of the place it will take a ton of cash to salvage it. I hope someone saves the place because the course itself is an interesting track.

Worst Maintained Course Ever
Terrible conditions. Crab grass in the traps. Brown greens. Looks like they are looking to get through the season and then go out of business.

Not going back
Fairways were terrible bunkers had weeds ankle deep and the greens had bald patches all over won't be playing here any time soon. Save your money

Th course is in bad shape. Greens are bad and tee boxes. It's sad because this course a potential. Looks like Great Rock is in trouble $.
