Beginners
The only issue I run into at liberty forge is a ton of ball marks on greens. The second issue is dealing with non golfers, who do not stay quiet, or fix ball marks, or let faster groups play through. It seems this is the course to try out golf at, and can be irritating to seasoned players.
Winter Golf Conditions
With the greens not having any grass growing, the greens were inconsistent at best. Some of the pin placements were on harsh side hill lies.
My wife hit a putt that nearly stopped at the hole but eventually nearly rolled 50 feet off the green when it picked up speed on the down hill slope pin placement.
Hole #7 is so challenging that I still know how to play it, even though I've had birdie putts the last two times playing it. The extreme dog uphill approach has several option but requires near perfect execution. I hit a 4 hybrid off the tee over the high trees guarding the green that landed on the green but couldn't hold. Layup shots will either go through the fairway behind trees as it rolls quickly down the hill or leave you with the need of a very high, soft lob wedge to hold the green. I was successful the last two times using that technique.
Some of the tee shots are very tight tree lined, #9 and #15 come to mind.
Other than that, the fairways were in good shape for the most part. Obviously no rough to speak of. Very short part 4's do not require the driver and as little as a 3 or 4 hybrid for me to reach.
Also, I should point out the course is very hilly. My wife fell out of the golf cart today on a steep hill. Fortunately she wasn't hurt. I didn't see what happened.
my personal opinion
Lots of par 3’s most challenging is hole 18 with two lakes ahead of the green
Quick round on a Sunday morning
Wasn’t sure what to expect of a par 63 course, but I was not disappointed. The greens were in good shape, but slow. Some of the tee boxes showed a summer’s worth of usage, but I enjoyed my day. Staff was very friendly, and I played the full course in under two hours. I would recommend a range finder, as the yardage on the tee markers is not accurate on all holes. It is a short course, but I used most of my clubs.
Course is OK
They have punched the greens and that is making the ball jump around and slow down when putting. Outside of that the course is well maintained.
Not Supported Golf Now
I booked a tee time online to play here 8/10 in the morning. I arrived onsite only to find they didn’t have a tee time scheduled or any availability to squeeze me in the guy at the counter said they didn’t participate in Golf Now online tee times. I had to drive a half hour away to play another course and came to find out we were the second group of people turned away. I understand mistakes can be made but don’t participate in the app if your not going to honor their customers. I spent 5$ to reserve my rate, and didn’t even play the course. I won’t go back, and the condescending disrespectful guy at the counter didn’t even try to help us out.
My fave
One of my favorite courses- can golf 18 in 3 hours- short course but very challenging- especially the greens! Love this place!!
Fun, short course
Enjoyable course with a good amount of par 3’s. More about hitting the ball straight than far. Course was in good condition. Stop by the restaurant/bar for some good food and beers.
Let me walk
In the past they were kind enough to give me a rain check for nine holes because I was only playing nine holes. They don't have a nine hole walking rate and on this day they told me I would have to pay for 18 holes even though I was only playing nine. I enjoy this course but doubt I will go back unless they create a nine hole walking rate or offer the rain check like they have in the past.
Lush Beautiful Course for Beginner or Short Game
My daughter and I played this course on a visit to the area. Staff was great. The course itself is maintained in first-rate condition. Fairways were like fine carpet and the greens were beautiful. A bit slow but I blame this on the misty weather. This is a great short easy course to give a beginner or casual player the feeling of an expensive top-drawer course.
They have walking and cart rates for 9 holes now!
