Today’s Dauphin Highlands
Dauphin Highlands has always been in my Top Ten for a reasonably cost-effective round of golf. The course is regularly well-maintained, and the layout is interesting, and presents enjoyable challenges to most casual golfers. The staff are all pleasant and helpful.
Singularly, the only thing that is pushing me away from this course is their cart management system that requires that you drive only in specific area of the course. I do understand the need to protect the course from irresponsible operation of carts. However, on at least two of the holes, a senior golfer is required to walk a distance to and from the tee box. We actually changed our next week’s outing to another course to avoid this irritation. But, if the cart control system doesn’t bother you, this is a nice place to play.
Pace of play!
A course known for 5 hour rounds when busy was a 6 hour round, stacking tee times every 8 min with no starter or rangers. Other than that the course was in absolutely beautiful shape.
Traveled from Georgia to play here
Course was beautiful. Tee boxes in great shape, greens are fast and fun lay out. Fairway you could putt from. Didn't get to play but 9 holes because 7 people tee off at the same time but if we ever are up that way again we will be playing there again!
The greens still aren’t healed
The pace of play here is not for people who care about that and the green conditions are tolerable at best. It’s a fun course, but I would not pay more than I paid for a 2:15 tee time. 5+ hour rounds on Saturday are not for me.
Best Course Around
Dauphin Highlands is definitely one of the BEST golf courses around!
Awful condition
The greens were littered with dead worms sticks and debris. Tee boxes and bunkers were not maintained. The fairways were a disaster ; apparently no one replaces their divots as they were everywhere. We got a hot rate to play, so it was not terribly expensive. Would never pay the normal rate to play there.
First time
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and will return. For a semi new golfer it was challenging and I loved that.
Enjoyed the course
For this time of year it was in pretty good shape. Loved the elevation changes, interesting holes and smooth greens. Pace of play was not very good. Over 5 hours to play. Didn’t care all that much because I had the time to wait. Others behind us weren’t so patient. Much of it to do with 3 threesomes walking in front of us. Overall I really liked this course and would recommend it. Pack your patience
Early season
For early in the season and after a large rain, the course was soggy but in very good condition. Greens rolled true.
Bunkers were horrible, though. Like concrete.
My favorite course in the area, do it’s always great to play there.
Course
We only played 9 holes due the high wind and snow squalls that went through and brought cold temps with it. The first couple holes were good till the wind and snow. No fault of the course. Will return in spring.
Disappointing Conditions
No one told us they had verticut the greens and done it poorly. A lot of sand and deep ruts. Bunkers were wet and stony. Spots around greens overwatered. Several tees moved because of new tee construction. I play with my wife and hate when the grounds team is just too lazy to put the senior and ladies tees in different locations. Ive played here many times and used to love the course. It just looks like they have given up. Might as well build a data center tomorrow. The GPS shut down our cart twice while driving to senior tees. My cart also shut down twice when approaching a roped area but not quite there. If you going to use the system then get your technology to mirror where your ropes are. I don't understand what youre protecting with the condition of the course.
Championship layout
Exceptional layout. Will definitely play again, preferably during peak season for what I would hope to be 5 star course conditions. The layout of this course deserves to be kept in pristine condition.
