Public golf in the Empire State will involve golf's brightest spotlight in 2025.
The Ryder Cup will visit Bethpage Black this fall with the host U.S. team hungry for a win.
If you want to know where to play next time you visit the Empire State, GolfPass releases a Top 25 Public Golf Courses in New York every March thanks to YOU. We create our annual Golfers' Choice lists by curating the reviews submitted by everyday golfers. We use GolfPass' Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's subcategory averages.
Each course needed at least two reviews and at least some public access to qualify. Unfortunately, Bethpage Black - which is part of the extensive New York State Parks system - didn't receive enough reviews to qualify. Exclusive private clubs like Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Sleepy Hollow Country Club, Garden City Golf Club, Maidstone Club, Oak Hill Country Club, Friar's Head and others aren't eligible.
We make our Golfers' Choice best-of lists user friendly. Simply click on the photo of each course to learn more about the facility or to book a tee time (in most cases).

What they're saying: "The course did fall maintenance just 4 days before. You would not have noticed. Conditions excellent. Pace of play, we almost had the course to ourselves. Beautiful fall weather. Not the first time I've given this course 5 stars." - golf45fw

Turning Stone - ShenendoahGreen fee: $90-$175
What they're saying: "Best course I have played in years. I had the first tee time of the day. I am a single so was paired with a two some that never showed. So being first out I played quickly, 2.5hrs to be exact. I caught the grounds crew by hole 9, however everyone was professional, friendly and respectful (quieting all machinery as I played thru). The conditions of the course were perfect. It was like playing on carpet. Big difference as should be expected from the course before the ground crew as to after, Before: A world class top notch well manicured course. After: greens much slower, rough was THICK 3.5-4" , but still a course in fantastic shape. Hope I get to play this course and the others here at Turning Stone sometime soon." - GolfPass Reviewer

Turning Stone - KaluhyatGreen fee: $90-$175
What they're saying: "Played up here for a bachelor party and this was a course we decided to squeeze in. Boy were we in for it. This course is a beast that won’t give you much chances. We arrived and they were accommodating and helpful. The accommodations were stunning and amazing. The course doesn’t disappoint either. Greens are lightning fast and firm so you need to land it short and run it up. Fairways are narrow and punishing if you miss. The 600 yard par 5 is an 8 waiting to happen. Can’t wait to come back and play the proper tees." - Smr87

What they're saying: "A hole without a bunker, the 3rd is the toughest par 4 in central New York. The greens are lightning quick. After a bit of a breather on 7 through 9, strap it back up on the back nine. A truly beautiful track, with great conditions." - muggs66

                    Casperkill Golf ClubGreen fee: $20-$65
What they're saying: "Course was so lush and so manicured. The fairways were like an expensive country club. The greens were smooth but a little slow and I have no problem with that. I think it’s smart. They’re keeping them a little bit slow so they’re much more smooth and not burnt out. Too many courses too fast and it’s not as fun for the average player….A wonderful wonderful day with my two sons…. highly highly recommend! Good food also in the Restaurant! My two sons ordered a hamburger and they told us to play the 10th hole and they’ll bring it out to us. So they delivered two hamburgers on the 11th fairway … classy establishment!!" - GolfPass Reviewer

                    Camillus Golf ClubGreen fee: $50
What they're saying: "This course is not immaculate, but challenging and satisfying. A handful of long 5’s with fairways so wide you’d have to be terrible to not keep it in play. One hole has a hill so big that you can see your ball take flight downward. The area's best in my opinion." - ironoffthetee

                    Lazy Swan G&CCGreen fee: $35-$95
What they're saying: "It's great Lazy Swan is up and running again. We played on a warm day in late November and the course was in good condition for this time of year. The fairways were dry and bouncy but that is because of the drought. Greens are relatively fast and the overall experience was very good. New pro was friendly and easy going." - rob32562

What they're saying: "The course is in fantastic shape. Greens roll fast and true. Got here for a 7:30am tee time and played in less than 3 hours. Greens and fairways were being cut by a large crew who keep the course in top condition. Staff are always super friendly and I got amazing value and a great price on a course that is worth the trip! Highly recommend this course." - CJMILLS
