The Morgan Hill Golf Course in Easton has a somewhat misleading name since you'll find more than just hills on this challenging course. Be prepared to face a variety of elevation changes ranging from subtle to dramatic. The golf course has a dramatic design that is carved into a hillside, which makes it a hard course to walk but one that is visually interesting and tough to play. It may not be a layout for the faint of heart but the scenery alone is enough to provide enjoyment. Golfers can enjoy scenic views of the river, but scenic respite is the only break you'll get. There is hardly an even lie to be found and the severely undulating greens will test even the most seasoned golfers. Also, be prepared for a slew of blind shots at Morgan Hill Golf Course.

Great layout

Although the course has not had rain in about two months, they are doing a real nice job in doing what they can to maintain the course. The greens and fairways are still in good shape although 3 of the greens need some work. The fairways a bit brown/green still have that carpet feel when hitting off them. The staff was great especially the pro, extremely friendly and accommodating. I have played the course many times although first time in years, still a phenomenal layout and once the rain comes it will be even better. Definitely recommend playing

Nope

Arguably one of the most unenjoyable rounds of golf I’ve played since I started playing 3 years ago.

The Clubhouse is super nice, staff were very helpful.

The course is abysmal, very poor conditions. More than half the greens had divots/craters in them. I genuinely considered chipping (I didn’t) what would have been simple 10 ft putts because there was no way to get the ball to the hole as you should on a normal putting green. When you came across a green that didn’t look like Normandy, it was like putting through the 2nd cut (extremely slow).

Fairways looked like the Sahara desert, making it difficult to judge where to even hit the ball. Half the holes just fed down the mountain (with basically dirt/cement fairways) making it borderline irrational to try and hit the center of the fairway in fear of the ball rolling off the side into oblivion.

Pace of play was atrocious, albeit rangers did their best to speed the groups up ahead. Nonetheless it was almost a 6 hour round.

If you’re looking for an unenjoyable round of golf, book a time here, they’re guaranteed to have openings. My recommendation if this is the only tee time you could find, just take the day off.

First Timer

The back nine of this course is extremely challenging. I never played a course with so many hills and blind flag shots. I probably wont be playing this course any time soon. On the other hand the greens are in great shape and fun to putt.

Slowest round ever played

Played on a Monday. 11:50 tee time. Starter told us to start on 11th hole, even though holes 1 and 2 wide open. We were put behind an 18 hole senior golf league, 4 foursomes of the slowest players in golf history. Took 3 hours to play 9 holes. No ranger to move things along. Groups behind us stacked up and some gave up in frustration. We quit after 12 holes and 4 hours.

Course was in bad shape also. I know it hasn’t been raining, but fairways and rough burnt and patchy. Several greens were chewed up and had bare spots. Greens very slow and bumpy as they hadn’t been cut. This used to be a good course, but the maintenance has slacked off. Not worth the money they’re charging. Won’t be back.

Morgan Hill

Fairways were not in the best if conditions and greens ran very slow. Very nice and accomodating staff.

Disappointing

The Good:

The staff was very nice. I enjoyed the undulating and challenging, layout and design, although the physicality of the course will prove too much for many golfers. Of note, there are outstanding views to be had throughout the course.

The Not So Good:

Number One Issue… There was no water offered to drink, and there was no beverage cart to be seen. Thee quarters of the way through the course I started to feel weak and uncomfortable to the point that I looked forward to the round ending.

Number two… The T areas were not managed well, they were dry and filled with divots. It was frequently difficult to find a smooth or level spot to take your swing. Also, three quarters of the ball cleaners were missing or empty.

Number three… The sand traps had little sand in them, and the sand was old, dense, and caked with rather large rocks in it. Definitely needed more, new, and lighter sand.

Number four… The greens were dry and bouncy with the grass being very similar to the synthetic grass on my driving mat at home.

Number five… The brakes on our cart were very difficult to feather, meaning they were either on or off. Fortunately ours was a dry day, but for a player on a damp day, our cart would been exceptionally dangerous on this course.

Number six… On the visor of our golf cart there was a notice which warned that we were limited to four hours and 26 minutes of play, and that we were being monitored by a GPS tracker installed on the cart. Besides sounding nasty and making you feel uncomfortable during the play which you have paid for, four hours and 26 minutes can easily be exceeded on busy weekends, or when a pairing has been added to your reservation to make a foursome, or even if you just stop to get a drink or go to the bathroom at the turnaround.

Number seven… There is no driving range, chipping, area, or sand practice area, only a small putting green, which is not very representative of the greens on the course.

Conclusion…

If you are a very good golfer, are on the young side, healthy, and a fan of hilly challenging courses, you may enjoy Morgan Hill Country Club; otherwise, you may want to look elsewhere. If you are up to giving it a try, you will enjoy the beautiful hilltop views that are available throughout the course. Unfortunately, I believe this course does not live up to its potential.

Too expensive for the condition

Way too expensive goe the condition of almost every green having a fungus on it in addition to just being aerated, it was like playing pinball with your putts trying to guess how it's going to bounce over the marks, also being cart path only was rough, way too hilly for that on every hole

It’s not called Morgan HILL for nothing

Very well kept course because of the amount of rain that morning had to play the back 9 twice. Beautiful course a lot of hills some very steep walking to some areas and driving the cart down some of the wet cart paths was interesting to say the least. I would definitely recommend this course it’s different than most. Even without a ton of water or traps still was challenging.
