Pleasant muni golf on a former landfill
Fairwinds is a solid example of something unpleasant - a local landfill - being repurposed into something nice. The Tommy Fazio-designed courses is fairly wide-open and very playable, with most of the bunkering off to the side of play, and water coming into play only on the back nine, albeit on five holes. The par fives here are particularly gettable, presenting good opportunities for birdies, along with several shortish par fours. The course is quite inexpensive to play and generally in nice shape. The people who run it are friendly and a recent overhaul of the F&B operation has enabled the County to capitalize on its assets a bit more.
This course has a good layout
Although the course was busy the pace of play was good , the bunkers in good shape and the greens fast.
AWSOME GREENS!!!!
Fairways wide and forgiving but lots of bunkers.. Wind really blows so be aware of it..The GREENS are AWSOME!!! Very fast with lots of slopes! No flat areas on the greens.. practice area is AWSOME as well...Staff great!! AWSOME COURSE!!
Great golf
I recommend this golf to anyone who love a nice course. Well maintain and fast green!
great day for golf
course was in great shape greens were firm and fast super enjoyable round of golf only complaint i would have is it cost me five buck for soda and candy bar at turn and i think i was lucky if there was six ounces of soda in my glass it was so fool of ice. I dont think i will buy food at clubhouse if this is norm. but course it self was wonderful and in great shape
Excellent greens and staff
Championship quality greens for a County course the staff inside the club house and outside managing the the carts and starters and course marshal couldn’t be nicer and more helpful
Improved since last played
We have played Fairwinds quite a few times and everything on the course just gets better! The greens are particularly slick and in great condition.
A good course for not a lot of money.
Pace of play was excellent. 3.5 hr round. Course was in great shape. Not a lot of trouble to get into.
I would recommend this course.
Nice track, good value
One of the better courses in the Fort Pierce area. Greens very good, course condition likewise, layout is fun with some challenges. Rather less water than a lot of Florida courses. Pretty wide open in general.
The only reservation I have is the course is so busy that you may have trouble getting off on time. Been here twice and it happened both times. They appear to have lots of league play early in the day, and I suppose that's the reason.
Will certainly return.
Great course and challenging layout
Thoroughly enjoyed playing Faurwinds. Quick greens and in good condition
Pleasant Florida muni golf
Fairwinds, the St. Lucie County muni, is a solid test of sub-tropical parkland golf built over a former landfill adjacent to a municipal airport. The sights and sounds of small aircraft taking off and landing either lends ambience or annoyance depending on who you are. The back nine has some awkward routing, but nothing too egregious. The par fives are pretty short and scoreable. Fairwinds is not too long or too difficult - just a serviceable muni course, which should be the game's bread and butter.
Fairwinds
We went to Fairwinds mainly because it was $24 before 8am. The course was in the best condition that I have seen it and is one of the best values in the area. Fairways were great greens held and pitted true and the traps were immaculate. Their rates do go up in January so don’t expect to play for $24 but it is still a good value.
Totally underrated
Honestly, one of the best public courses I have ever palyed. Fun layout, well manicured, and fantastic practice facility. Greens were in superb condition, which I often find rare with public courses. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. I would recommend this course to any level golfer, many tee boxes for any ability. Staff was friendly and accommodating. I will be back again, no doubt.
Price of Round
I understand this is a public course and if the price was reflected to match the conditions of the course that would be nice. I do not mind playing golf on a goat ranch just as long as it is priced to reflect that fact. I would say about $12 dollars a round would be fair for this course. It was built on an old landfill, I think it has almost been returned to its original condition.
I do enjoy playing there but just paid $31 for 9 holes. This is not the course for that level of pricing.
To be fair this an old rating and Golfnow should remove. It is a very unfair rating as this course is very nice and one of the best maintained public courses in the area.
Course is a lot better than this boogie golfer claims.
