Pittsburgh National Golf Club
About
Formerly known as Deer Run, Pittsburgh National Golf Club has undergone major renovations since management has changed hands over the years, including complete reconditioning of the greens and the addition of 60 new renovated bunkers. The championship golf course that exists today is more challenging than the original though it has retained the same playability. With no blind shots to be found and wide fairways that are player-friendly, the course is inviting to beginners and also offers a casual but interesting round for more advanced players. During the renovation, the club also added a practice facility that includes a grass driving range with heated hitting stalls for year-round use, it is one of the only public grass ranges in the Greater Pittsburgh area. There is also a putting green and chipping area with sand bunkers.

Course is in excellent condition
I have played Pgh National (Deer Run) many times and I have to say that the course is in the best shape I have ever seen it. Some greens were a little firm, but all rolled very nicely. We played in just over 4 hours on a Saturday morning which is always an added bonus.
great day
course was in great shape, good day to shape shots. My son-in-law traveled from Franklin,Pa. 60 miles away to play this course so I was very pleased to present him with a superior layout.
Friendly staff, lightening fast and challenging greens, well maintained.
Great course. Friendly staff, lightening fast and challenging greens, well maintained.
This course was in fair condition, a bit dried out
There was miscommunication between GolfNow and the course. I made a tee time on GolfNow and received a call from the course that the tee time was not available. I picked another time from GolfNow and the course said it also was not available. Luckily they did have a tee time available that was only 50 minutes earlier than what I wanted. Better coordination between GolfNow and the partner golf courses is necessary.
The course is in much better condition
It has been a few years since I played Pittsburgh National so I was pleasantly surprised when the course was in much better condition. The pace of play was 3.5 hours so it was nice to experience that in the north hills. I would recommend those that haven't played Pittsburgh National/Deer Run in a while to pay a visit.
Horrible in honoring reservations made from Golfnow
They always mess up reservation from Golfnow. Last time they did not keep the tee time and blamed it on Golfnow. One other time there was a delay of 20 mins from the reserved time.
When I searched on Golfnow for 18 hole deals they displayed a deal saying it's 64% off but when I made the reservation it was for 9 holes and there was no deal. I ended up paying the course price + golfnow fees.
Took better care of Castle Hills
The manager/greenskeeper kept better care of a previous course he worked at, and that course was half the price of this one. Would not recommend.
Needs a little love
Course is a nice layout and overall in pretty good condition but,the bunkers need some love.I played this course a few times and would recommend it to anyone. It's a good test.with some difficult holes
Nice track with diversity.
Fairways and greens were in great condidtion. Bunkers and cart paths needs some attention. Overall a great round for the money.
Excellent shape
Great value. Course is VERY well maintained and greens are fast and will hold.
Staff are friendly and helpful.
What mor could you ask for.
Course needs much attention.
The course was extremely wet and appeared to have poor drainage. The pace of play was so slow (5 1/4 hrs) their was no chance to enjoy the course. Rangers on the course did not appear to care that the pace was so slow. Cost too much for that slow of play.
The course had no drainage. Grounds were very soggy.
I was very disappointed when I got there for 18 holes of golf to be informed with my foursome that this was only for 9 holes. I paid $28.00 a person as advertised to only be told I needed to paid additional. This was not on your web site. We drove for an hour to play. So we paid the additional $68.00 to play 18 holes.
Will not return
The course is in ok shape, but definitely not worth the high price. There are much better deals at much nicer courses in the surrounding area.
Course OK, great layout BUT TEES are uneven and "chewed up"
Nice layout that needs some work, tees very bad and need of work. Nice looking bar but food VERY POOR VALUE FOR MONEY! Service is so slow our group usually goes elsewhere for a drink and a sandwich after golf. Feel more money should be put into the course rather the extravagant bar and MEDIOCRE food! I must add the food there was very good last year but something changed! :-(
This course is in bad shape and way overpriced.
Hard as a rock and terribly slow play with no ranger on the course, even after we called the pro shop.
Can I get some water?!!
My tee time was scheduled for 2:40 and when i arrived the 2pm group had yet to even tee off. There was no starter or anyone keeping things in order. We ended up teeing off 40 min late. The worst thing however was how dry the course was even with the wetter season we've had. I mean nothing was holding anywhere. The course was in need of some TLC for sure. I definitely would not pay over $40 to play here until things improve.
Slow
We showed up to find out that golfnow had booked three sets up tee times at 3:06. Talking with the starter, he mentioned this to us and said it is a normal practice at this course which makes for a slow round. Course is in fairly good condition. Like late in the summer in western PA, some of the tee boxes are in dire need of new sod.
Not happy with this course anymore
They wouldn't honor the GolfNow price quoted, They had a kids outing that had dozens backed up at each hole. the practice range was under construction and were out of hot dogs.We decided not to play and left.
I keep going back hoping the staff and conditions will improve, but obviously that's not happening.
overall - ok
The course is in good but not great shape. Too many unrepaired ball marks on the greens. The layout is the best part of this course. Very much enjoy the whole course but back 9 is the best.
The tee boxes need to be fixed - they should be flat and actually have grass on all parts. Wouldn't mind a little water on the course either.
The biggest problem I have is the price. $55 bucks is just way to much to play golf in Pittsburgh and way to much on this condition of course. If it was 5 years ago, maybe but the course does not warrant that price.
Used to be 5 stars, now 3. Been waiting for 3 years for this to get back to the way it was, but it isn't happening. If they spent as much time on the golf course as they do trying to push the restaurant/entertainment, things would be better. I come to golf, make that the focal point.
Very well maintained.
The course was in great shape. Only one bunker had a good size puddle of water in it. That is the only con for the course. Staff was extra friendly and helpful. I will definitely go back and play for the deal offered.
