Pittsburgh National Golf Club
About
Formerly known as Deer Run, Pittsburgh National Golf Club has undergone major renovations since management has changed hands over the years, including complete reconditioning of the greens and the addition of 60 new renovated bunkers. The championship golf course that exists today is more challenging than the original though it has retained the same playability. With no blind shots to be found and wide fairways that are player-friendly, the course is inviting to beginners and also offers a casual but interesting round for more advanced players. During the renovation, the club also added a practice facility that includes a grass driving range with heated hitting stalls for year-round use, it is one of the only public grass ranges in the Greater Pittsburgh area. There is also a putting green and chipping area with sand bunkers.

nice layout
The rain has helped the course out. The greens are rough on the edges. Played this course earlier this year, better now.
Course in great shape. I would definitely return and recommend to others.
Pro shop staff a little disorganized. For example, letting groups tee off on #10 in front of groups making the turn. Other than that a very pleasant experience.
Well maintained
well maintained, nice people, very helpful needs some signage on roads leading to course.
Pittsburgh National has potential
My friends and I enjoyed this course. The pace of play was very good for a Saturday morning. The tees, greens and fairways were in great shape.
greens in nice shape
teed off a couple miinutes late but played the front 9 in less than two hours. I prefer the front nine as the back has some funky holes in the first four, The greens putted very well with good speed and the bunkers were in decent shape. The driving range was being redone which i strange for this time of year.,
greens and fairwas very nice
Great value, greens excellent, pace of play excellent
great people at club house restaurant is very good
enjoyed the golf layout. play way to slow. We quit on hole 14 after 3.5 hours
Good Course !
Nice course, could be a bit better maintained.
greens have improved as compared to last year.
Needs work, Clover taking over
I was a bit disappointed in this course since it is more expensive than average and I drove a ways to play it. Unfortunately, the course is not well maintained. There is clover blooming all over the lighter rough making balls hard to find (white ball among white flowers). Despite the rain all week, the fairways and greens were hard as a rock and I was amazed at how high the ball bounced on either. The tee boxes were in poor condition and the greens only in fair condition. Roughs need maintenance and mowing and someone needs to get rid of the clover. I would not go back for this price. There are lots of $30-40 courses that are better.
Still Waiting
The course was in decent condition. By June it should have been better. Also, the pace of play was extremely slow. We waited on every hole all day. There were no rangers on course enforcing the pace. Furthermore, the 8 minute tee time spread on a Sunday afternoon is ridiculous. After 12, when the course gets busy, the spread should be 10 minutes. Overall, the experience could have been very good except for the 5.5 hour round time.
Please go to 10 minute intervals after 12 on weekends. You lose one tee time per day, but you've lost 4 golfers forever due to the experience.
challenging from the tips
Don't play here unless you have less than a 15 handicap. Course was in good shape. True value from golf now but I wouldn't pay $55 for it.
Windy day but fun
Course was in great shape and we were able to speed around due to it being mothers day and a bit chilly. Would come back again....
Course is on its way back to previously near pristine condtion
PN fell into disrepair a couple of years ago but is being given the attention in needs to restore it to its former self. The fairways and greens are very good though there are still some small spots where the grass has not grown back. The rough seems a bit patchy yet. Our problem Sunday was we showed up at 12:30 for a 12:58 tee time and did not tee off until 1:40. All of the carts were out on the course and everyone was waiting for them to come in. It took 40 minutes for the 1st 4some, from the time we arrived, to show up at the 18th green to provide carts for the group in front of us. The next group didn't show up on 18 until 1:30. My group had just gotten our carts off of a 5some(?) that called it a day at the 5th tee due to the slow pace of play(stacked 3 deep at the tee box). Our round was 5 hour. Have played the course several times and this was a first.
excellent track
One of very favorite courses. Greens are very fast. Love the layout
Very Good conditions for this time of year.
The course is in very good condition for this time of year (Spring '13). The greens are lightning fast and the fairways are trimmed nicely. The bunkers are in perfect condition for this time of year and with all the rain we had I did not see any washouts The staff is courteous and professional and is willing to help with questions or concerns.
The clubhouse is kept clean and it makes you feel like your playing in a country club setting. The bar is well stocked with good food and a decent selection of draught and bottled beer. Its a little pricey ($5.00 a beer) but the bar maid is friendly and courteous.
Overall the experience at Pittsburgh National was very good and is what I look for in a golf course and clubhouse when I want to entertain and impress and I'm sure your experience will be the same .
The course is challenging yet playable.
Even though it was Labor Day, the pace of play was still quick. The course was maintained yet there were some spots that needed some work. The holes were a great combination of twists and hills. The clubhouse staff were on the ball when it came to taking orders and in friendliness. Overall, the couse was well taken care of.
Great course, almost county club quality, long
At just under 7000 from the TIPS this course has all the length you need. With a challenging layout that can be forgiving, sometimes, you'll feel like you're doing battle against the course. The four par 3's are like 190, 195, 201, 225 from the back tees. Very tough to score on. The course is well maintained and they got a nice fleet of new carts, which is a marked improvement over previous management regimes at the course. They are stretching out the greens for next season, which will be very nice.
Why do 15-19 handicappers care about the tips!?
