Pittsburgh National Golf Club

About
Formerly known as Deer Run, Pittsburgh National Golf Club has undergone major renovations since management has changed hands over the years, including complete reconditioning of the greens and the addition of 60 new renovated bunkers. The championship golf course that exists today is more challenging than the original though it has retained the same playability. With no blind shots to be found and wide fairways that are player-friendly, the course is inviting to beginners and also offers a casual but interesting round for more advanced players. During the renovation, the club also added a practice facility that includes a grass driving range with heated hitting stalls for year-round use, it is one of the only public grass ranges in the Greater Pittsburgh area. There is also a putting green and chipping area with sand bunkers.

Okay to play
A little short. Fairways in good shape. Greens a tad slow, but ball rolled well and true. The guy in charge was a bit annoying.
Great course for the money.
Today was my birthday. Was looking forward to a great day with my wife for 18 holes. Unfortunately, only got in 2 holes before intermittent rain caused us to hang it up. Unfortunately, no rain check. Oh well!
Waiting for 10 and 11
Holes under repair diminished a nice day on the other 16.
First time here - Not the last
Hidden gem. Will be back. Course in good condition, except for holes 10 & 11. Construction going on at these holes.
Not good, at all...
This course has been in slow decline the last four years. I had not played it in about a year and figured I would give it a shot. Sadly, the wheels have come off at this course. I get they are updating a few holes, but the greens in general are in poor shape. The sand traps have not been maintained at all. There is standing water in just about every spot of rough throughout the course. They are not managing groups well and spacing the times at all. At one point, we had four groups on the same hole. I am avoiding this course all together for the foreseeable future.
Decent value
I’ve played here a few times and it was super busy today. The problem wasn’t how many golfers there were, it was the group in front of us. We thought because it was busy it was slow, but we realized after the turn there was no one ahead of the group in front of us. There was no ranger on what they told us was their busiest day of the year. The construction on 10 and 11 also makes it tough to play and slows down play after the turn. Hopefully when they complete that the pace of play will get better. Overall ok for the money, but probably better once construction is done.
Great time
Wish the driving range was open, just picked a bad time. Also, #10 and 11 were a bit of a mess but it's understandable when making changes. Still very playable.
A Terrific Golf Experience is Waiting to Happen
Entertaining and challenging course to play. Above average conditions - ownership is obviously making some major improvements, but attention to some details (traps, rutted lies, course management) is needed. My biggest gripe here is that the pro shop allows (or is clueless) players to start on #10 when players are making the turn from nine. Case in point - my twosome played the front nine in one hour and 40 minutes. Back nine - two hours and 25 minutes. We waited at the turn for over 20 minutes.
Good day. Good round
4 1/2 hrs for 18 on a Monday afternoon was a little too long. Greens and tee boxes need some help but overall the course was very playable. I always enjoy the layout at PNGC.
Great track for the money
They are improving 10 and 11. Should be great when work is completed.
Nice layout
Very well maintained. Continually making improvements.
Hilly but nice layout
Started at around 1:00. Did our first 9 in 1 1/2 hours. There was no one in front of us .Came around to do second 9 and found several foursomes on # 10 tee. There was a league going off at 2:30 on both 9's. We complained and the management gave us a rain check for the second 9. Was nice of them to do this. Suggest calling ahead to find out if there are leagues going off and when. Kind of early for a league.
Poorly Run Course
Staff not friendly
No water on course to drink
No starter
Super slow play
Won't be back
