Pittsburgh National Golf Club

About
Formerly known as Deer Run, Pittsburgh National Golf Club has undergone major renovations since management has changed hands over the years, including complete reconditioning of the greens and the addition of 60 new renovated bunkers. The championship golf course that exists today is more challenging than the original though it has retained the same playability. With no blind shots to be found and wide fairways that are player-friendly, the course is inviting to beginners and also offers a casual but interesting round for more advanced players. During the renovation, the club also added a practice facility that includes a grass driving range with heated hitting stalls for year-round use, it is one of the only public grass ranges in the Greater Pittsburgh area. There is also a putting green and chipping area with sand bunkers.

Great layout getting even better with the improvements to holes 10 and 11.
Great layout. They continue to make the course better with the ongoing improvements to holes 10 and 11. Try it you’ll love it!
Winter Golf in Pittsburgh
Considering the time of year, the course was in excellent condition and a great value.
Fall Golf
Great fall day on a nice track. Greens running fast.
Trees a blaze of colors.
Great Hot Deal!
Great rate on a course that’s in good condition. The greens are very fast but we had a great time.
Very poor condition on the fairways and greens. Grass is growing in to the traps and not edged.
Need to fishing the 10th and 11th holes
Fun course, but will wait till 10th and 11th holes are finished before I go back. Work has been going on here for a few months.
Tell the players about construction
I always like Pittsburgh National because of its challenging layout and nice amenities. The pro shop attendant was nice but could have told me that #10 and #11 were torn up for repair and renovations. Of course I only paid $18 so I guess I can’t complain too much.
Pgh National
We played 18 and had an open course all afternoon. There is some course construction that modifies a couple of holes but the course is playable. The greens are in good shape. The tee boxes and fairways are beat up. But the course is open and allows for recovery after a bad shot. For the Hot Deal price, i'd play again and again.
Course is under construction
The back nine is a mess. If you go out and play, play the front twice. The back nine isn’t worth the hassle.
Average all the way around
The deal I got was great, if you find a good deal it’s a really nice place to go. Overall though the 2 times I’ve golfed here the staff have been very unfriendly and unwelcoming. They seemed “annoyed” toward non members. The course is a work in progress and will look really nice in the future. 10 11 13 14 are all being redone. 11 is basically not even a hole. There are workers all over the back 9 which makes it’s difficult even though it’s not their fault. Personal opinion, I think it could Great course once the renovations are done and if they lowered their prices. I’d never golf their if i didn’t get the deal I found. Lack of kindness from the staff was a real disappointment. I think for the money there are other really nice courses out there.

I have been playing here for years to start, however will not be back. Prices are 'just' under the super nice public courses in the area but conditions are horrible. Worst I've seen a course in a long time. We've had plenty of rain this year but so many areas are dead. Tees, horrible. Chewed beyond repair and they probably havent moved them in months. If you like teeing off dirt then its all for you. The greens, looks like 300 rounds were played 20 minutes before you play the hole. Huge ball marks everywhere. Its become, and no offense to anyone, a hackers course but still charging same prices. After my round I went to inform the staff, and the guys answer 'your preaching to the choir'....so they know its terrible, still charge overpriced fees and then dont care.
