Pittsburgh National Golf Club
About
Formerly known as Deer Run, Pittsburgh National Golf Club has undergone major renovations since management has changed hands over the years, including complete reconditioning of the greens and the addition of 60 new renovated bunkers. The championship golf course that exists today is more challenging than the original though it has retained the same playability. With no blind shots to be found and wide fairways that are player-friendly, the course is inviting to beginners and also offers a casual but interesting round for more advanced players. During the renovation, the club also added a practice facility that includes a grass driving range with heated hitting stalls for year-round use, it is one of the only public grass ranges in the Greater Pittsburgh area. There is also a putting green and chipping area with sand bunkers.

Rain needed to bring the course back to life
Greens were fine. Fairways and general conditions were not good.
Never Again
The fairways were hardened, burn out , clay with some wispy dead grass on them. The rough was again sun baked clay with wispy weeds and clover. The tees looked like they had been ploughed and not smoothed out. You could stand in a hole to hit your tee shot, or you could tee your ball in a hole. Any errant shot ran off the burnt out fairway and into the woods or the weed infested rough. It appears the tees and fairways have not been watered in several weeks. I will say the greens and aprons were well maintained and challenging. The greens held shots and putted true. Unfortunately, getting to the greens was next to impossible. For $33.00 the course was way overpriced considering the condition of the course. If the course can't be kept up due to the recent hot weather, they should just close it down.
Good overall
Pretty nice course all around. Tee boxes need some work tho
Front 9 vs Back 9
Front 9 is very nice but back 9 has holes under construction (pretty raw) and has several very steep hills. Perhaps they are remodeling the back 9 course...? I would recommend if you wanted to play front 9 only.
Nice course, good challenge
Nice layout. Well taken care of given the weather which was very wet.
Nice layout, good challenge
The course has a god layout and is well maintained. The staff is very friendly.
Great layout getting even better with the improvements to holes 10 and 11.
Great layout. They continue to make the course better with the ongoing improvements to holes 10 and 11. Try it you’ll love it!
Winter Golf in Pittsburgh
Considering the time of year, the course was in excellent condition and a great value.
Fall Golf
Great fall day on a nice track. Greens running fast.
Trees a blaze of colors.
Great Hot Deal!
Great rate on a course that’s in good condition. The greens are very fast but we had a great time.
Very poor condition on the fairways and greens. Grass is growing in to the traps and not edged.
Need to fishing the 10th and 11th holes
Fun course, but will wait till 10th and 11th holes are finished before I go back. Work has been going on here for a few months.
Tell the players about construction
I always like Pittsburgh National because of its challenging layout and nice amenities. The pro shop attendant was nice but could have told me that #10 and #11 were torn up for repair and renovations. Of course I only paid $18 so I guess I can’t complain too much.
Pgh National
We played 18 and had an open course all afternoon. There is some course construction that modifies a couple of holes but the course is playable. The greens are in good shape. The tee boxes and fairways are beat up. But the course is open and allows for recovery after a bad shot. For the Hot Deal price, i'd play again and again.
