About

University Ridge Golf Course is just 15 minutes from the University of Wisconsin campus and downtown Madison. The course's name comes from the defining feature of the landscape, a remnant of the last retreating glacier. The course is perched right where the Wisconsin Glacier stopped, providing the backbone of the ridge that divides the terrain into clusters of hills and valleys. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the golf course with distinctly different front and back nines that make it feel like you are playing two courses in one. The front nine plays across grassy meadows, featuring contoured fairways and generous landing areas. Wind will definitely be a challenge on this more open nine. In contrast, mature trees frame most of the holes on the back nine. The golf course finishes with two of its toughest holes: a long par 3 over water and then another long hole, a par 4 that plays uphill.

Don’t play here if rain delayed

Had a rain delay of 30 minutes which meant cart paths only. This course is not set up for cart path only because the paths are so far from the playing area. Without my Garmin I would have had no idea how far I was to the green when you walk so far. My Garmin said I walked 10 miles It took over 5 hours. Greens are all beat up and not repaired well. Putts go off line all the time. Never play this course if it is cart path only. You would be better off walking.

College kids?

Place was all around in perfect conditions except the greens. Every green had at least 4 or 5 unrepaired pitch marks and seemed to be marked up heavily by cleat marks. Beautiful course all around and that was my only real complaint.

Beautiful fairways and greens

Great course. It had just rained so sand traps were a little damp but playable but had a great time and staff was super helpful and friendly

Surprised

I didn’t know what to expect when I signed up to play, but was impressed as I pulled up. Felt like a country club as you leave your clubs with someone as you park your car. Course was challenging enough. Front and back are very different. Not sure what the sand on all the greens was about. A lot of restrictions with the cart. I’d play here again. Go Badgers!

Fabulous set up

First surprise was my payment was all inclusive, range balls and buggy included. A game of two halves. Front nine big open feel and back nine in the woods. Great fun course
