About
The Hard Rock Golf Club Riviera Maya (formerly known as The Golf Club at Playacar) offers the perfect combination of natural beauty and the work of man. This magnificient golf course, carved out of the dense Mayan Jungle is only a few hundred yards away from the crystal-clear, turquoise ocean and the fine white sands of the Mexican Caribbean Sea.
The intelligent architectural design of the golf course has converted Playa del Carmen into one of the most popular tourism destinations in all of Mexico.

Shake down and scam
Showed up for tee time and golf shop told me I had to pay the taxi driver for my round and transportation, instead of Hard Rock or the golf club direct. Yep, that makes alot if sense. Complete scam. Take your money somewhere else.
"Disappointing Shuttle and Crowded Golf Rounds Mar Stay at Barcelo
During my residency at Barcelo I was offered to book a tee time at hard rock golf club.I faced considerable disappointments. The shuttle service to the course was unreliable and poorly managed, resulting in delays and a lack of communication from the staff, ultimately forcing me to secure my own cab back to the hotel. Additionally, the golfing experience was less than ideal; the course was overcrowded, allowing 6 to 8 players per round, which is far from the standard practice of 4, leading to extended wait times and a less enjoyable game. These issues significantly detracted from my overall experience during my stay also let me add that a lot of the residence by the hard rock walk, their dog and two different occasions were in our way and took a couple of our balls STAY AWAY FROM BOTH
We booked a ride along and were told the course was too busy to accommodate although there was a group of 3 and 2 behind us that was disappointing. Based on the green fees I would’ve expected GPS in the carts.
Best value close to PDC Center
Staff were great, and the food before/after the round were appreciated as part of the all-inclusive fees. Hard Rock staff need to address the incorrect hole markers (e.g. hole 14 on the card is a Par 4, not a Par 5 as indicated on the stones and on-course signage. For play - note the many doglegs and play shot-to-shot. Not a bomber course, and with very small greens, you're wise to practice your short game.
Poor communication and double booked
Don’t golf here! You will wait over an hour to tee off as they double book your time slot
All you can eat and drink
This course is well manicured, Greens are extremely small with bunkers that make you think. This course was fairly challenging for not being very long.
Course Overbooked!
Had a 9:24 tee time. When we got there they changed it to 9:54 without telling us. We didn’t tee off till10:30.
It took 1 hour to play the fists 2 holes. The3rx hoke is a par 3 and there were 6 groups backed up waiting to play. It took 5 1/2 hours to play! Drinks were fine but food on the course amounted to one slice ham and cheese on slightly toasted white bread with limp lettuce and tomato. Last time we played there it was great. This time way to many players booked!!! Not the golf round we hoped for.
Jungle course
Went with my brother in January 2024. Got it discounted off golfnow, and saved $40 each person. It said transportation was included but it wasn't bc it was less than 24 hrs from reservation to tee time. The course was beautiful, lots of fun holes with massive sand traps and water. The biggest downside is that for a $200US per round course, the greens were rough and inconsistent. Also that they dont give any free balls to start, you have to pay to get balls. However, included food was good, drinks were free, and the jungle scenery was beautiful. It was a great mexico golf experience overall.
Nice Track
Booked through Golf Now, nice track, staff were great. Booze and food were included which is great. My only complaint if any were that the rental clubs were regular flex. Not a deal breaker but some slight adjustments had to be made. All in all 8/10.
Difficult course
Narrow fairways, difficult rough, lots of sand.. a lot of vegetation so easy to lose balls
Overall mediocre experience
Course itself is odd design w a ton of dog legs. Greens were in terrible shape. Some holes pretty beat up. Odd tee time system in which every other group tees off on 1 and 10. Made front night good pace of play and then back nine slow as more groups inserted. Food offerings nothing special. Has potential but not managed well.
Ok Course to play
The food and drink was ok but, I went to play not eat and drink! The greens are very soft and you can attack the pin! Greens are bumpy but still decent to putt on. Its worth playing if you have the time but if your on a tight schedule there's other tracks to play so that you get the most of your precious holiday time! I plan to play at a few other tracks but, you have to book directly with the course. Would I go back and play here again? YES! Why not...its was over all a fun course. FYI keep an eye out for the wildlife as the "Couti" will take all you gear and food/drink. Also look for the WHITE 150yrd. stake markers as you will not need to hit driver on heaps of the holes, very short and very tight course!
Getting Worse
This used to be a highlight of our trips to Playa car. We built our trip around playing this course. The service is getting worse and worse. Yes, you get free food and drinks with the round but the food is now terrible and the drink are the cheapest alcohol they can find. It is no longer the value it used to be. We played multiple days and the fastest round was 5 hrs and 15 min. You're better off paying less at another course and paying for decent amenities out of pocket.
Good and Hard Course
Fun course to play but pricey. Would of liked to play 3-4 times a week but because of green fee price we will limit ourselves to once a week.
No for me.
I go a reasonable GN deal to play here, and got paired up with a couple locals who were fun to play with. Was it worth it? Maybe. Definitely not worth the rack rack of $250. Here’s my breakdown.
Pros:
-F&B are included with the greens fees. However I hope you like Corona, Popcorn, Chips, or Soda. That’s all you’re gonna get.
-playing in the jungle is fun & novel, there’s cenotes as hazards, animals everywhere, and the surroundings are stunning.
Cons:
-Pace of play was awful. 5.5 hour round, and play was extraordinarily light. It was cart path only, which is fine, but I could have seen us push 6 hours easily.
-Layout is too tight, especially for a resort course. Any offline strike… adios pelota, your ball is now in the jungle. Bring balls you’re willing to loose.
-Layout is also boring, greens are tiny, lots of weird doglegs. There’s not a hole I remember besides 18, which plays like none of the other holes. It feels like a bootleg Pete Dye course without any of the nuance that makes his courses brilliant.
