Not sure if anyone on las cruces understands golf pace of play concept, not even the so call Marshall’s
Snails Would Love This Course
I remain steadfast in my thinking that a golf course ranger's job should be to help golfers finish their round in a time appropriate for the course and not to roll up on people on the second hole of their round to ask them to slow down because " . . . it is going to be real slow out there." This course's greens are in good shape, but the rest of the place needs a lot of care ---- fairways and rough are barren of grass, and bunkers are full of rocks and have an uneven spread of sand. But my big complaint is the pace of play. It seems that Sonoma ranch thinks it is okay with a 5.30 hour round. If that's your cup of tea and you don't mind hitting off dirt and sand, well this is your track. As for me, I left after 8 because things were so slow and the only time I saw the ranger was on the second hole when he asked me to play slower.
The front 9 we were running into each group—frustrating. However, when I went to play the back (my preference)no one was there! Very strange.
Sad
Nice layout, but overall conditions are very poor. Greens, tees fairways and greens all in poor to fair shape.
More time
Golf course needs more time and work to get back to being nice. Can see that grass has been panted and drains put in. It is going to take time for course to come back after letting it go for so long. Glad new owners are trying and working to accomplish this. Thanks
The Real Sonoma Ranch golf course
Sonoma Ranch golf course is a good golf course but the past years have been rough there. Literally, the course plays like playing the rough in many holes. The fairways are without grass in many areas. The rough and other areas need trimming.
Course conditions are improving but 12 and 16 greens are almost unplayable. I would only play at discount rate. Had starter issues. Showed up twenty minutes before tee time waited for 45. Had a 12:40 tee time and the 12:20 showed up at 12:35 my group didn’t start till 1:00. Sunset was 5:05. Wasn’t fun to finish in the dark. Marshals did nothing to speed up play. Hopefully course will improve conditions. You can see that redhawk staff has taken over. That’s both good and bad now bunkers look just as bad as Redhawk’s. It would be nice if crew ran bunker machine every couple of days. I understand that staff is short but it’s no different than mowing greens every day. The golf course is still a bargain for twenty five dollars but it’s really not worth more
Upgrade and maintenance
Course needs to be upgraded to golf course standards. Some t-boxes need to be replanted. They are down to dirt and weeds. Sand traps are in bad shape. Some greens are in bad shape too. Will play again in a year and see if any improvements but not this year
