Awesome course but tough with lots of potential trouble
Stone Canyon is a great golf course but you better hit fairways or big numbers will show up on your scorecard. Undulating fast greens will challenge the flat stick.
Very disappointed. The course needs a lot of love as well as the facilities.
Defiantly not the course describe on the website. Poorly maintained and very over priced. Will not return.
Nice course.
Nice course, but the outlying areas are so overgrown with weeds that it definitely takes away from the experience. Fairways and greens were just fine, but surrounding landscape was terrible.
One of the best in KC!
I love this course and I'm glad they got on GolfNow as it has become a little more affordable to play. If I'm being completely honest, I would like it to be in better shape but it is the end of July and we haven't had rain in weeks. It looks like they need to be watering a little more to keep the condition up. Still very fun to play and in overall pretty good shape all things considered. Can't wait to go back!
Challenging Course, Well Maintained
This is a tremendous course, Greg Norman design. Great, Fairways and Greens with variety of challenging holes. Build on an old landfill, hills and valleys make for great holes. From the tips, you'll get your monies worth!
Sets Up Better from the Back Tees
Played last week and enjoyed the first time out on the track. Played with some folks who wanted to play the White tees and while the holes were still challenging, I think it would have played better from farther back. Went back a set or two of tees on a few holes and the course seemed much more accessible, or at least the sight lines when setting up the shot. I am not a great player by any stretch, but for me sight and being able to see the shots is a must. Course was in great shape and surprised it was not more crowded.
The course was very challenging, but one worth playing
The course is very nice. The roughs are rough and the greens are nowhere near flat, they are challenging. I think this is one of those hidden gems. There were not many people out playing the course, but our pace of play was a little slow as we had to figure out how to play the course with all the deep bunkers and terrain obstacles. I would recommend this course and will probably try to get out and play this course again.
A Norman course for under $60.00, you're kidding.
This is a great track. I can't believe I get to play a Norman course for less than $60.00. The greens and fairways are incredible. The rough could use some water. Love this track.
Great course, bad staff
I really enjoy playing this course and it was in great condition the only downfall of this place is the staff. We arrived about 10 min BEFORE our tee time and when we got there the front desk person was on the phone for 10 min. Due to his phone call we were past our tee time. Once we got all checked in he told us that we need to hurry up and get to the tee box and that we need to try harder to be on time so we keep our tee time and not be pushed back. Best advice for those that play this course is to keep your conversations short with the staff and then enjoy the beautiful course.
A well thought out adventure for all playing levels!
Have played at a lot of beautiful courses over the years and can truly say this is one of Kansas City's best! Greg starts you out with a couple parable holes and then lets the layout of the course take it from there. Found the course very well maintained and the greens fast, just the way they should be!
Play it as difficult as you'd like.
A great layout. For the true golfer, it's a great test from the tips or play the up tees if you're out for a good time and don't want to have to put too much into it mentally. The important parts of the golf course are in super shape. Rough was cut low but still thick and healthy. Fairways are in great shape. Really liked the bent grass fairways. Greens are in great shape as well. Receptive, rolled true and speedy enough. Driving between tees there isn't much to look at, so if you're looking for great views, this isn't the course. However, the golf is super!
Decent course, no clubhouse
Decent wide open course with a few interesting holes. Some tree lined holes but most are fairly forgiving. Lots of elevation changes, most greens are large but sloping. Mobil home clubhouse and bar is unusual, no doubt a casualty of the economic downturn that also derailed the surrounding residential development.
Primo golf, but the human factor could improve
As much as I love the golf course, I wouldn't play it without the golfnow discount. Too many options around KC for much less. Still, its unique because of the bentgrass (instead of the usual no-roll zoysia) fairways, and some singular hole designs which I appreciate. Lovely scenery which might diminish once all the houses are built out, but that will be a while.
Clubhouse is a double-wide and its a joke for a course charging a prime rate fee. Now they are building a separate grill and bar...and its another temporary building! Come onnnnn!
The latest day I played was slooooow, and as others have said before me, I never saw a marshall in 5 hours.
While We're Young!
Five and three quarter hour round because there were no on-course assistants to monitor avoidable pace-of-play indiscretions by high handicappers during a tournament that was held during prime-time Saturday. Staffing the course properly would ensure that the paying customers who are playing behind the tournament have a nice day, too.
good course
Good course, conditionextras ok. fairways seemed extra wet, greens ok. no back tees out. fast golf carts. small proshop. a couple of holes confusing to get to. tee boxes need to be different colors hard to tell what colors unless you are real close. range nice. nice cart girl, not much marshalling good or bad depending on what your needs are
The greens were very fast, the way I like greens
I would like to walk, however this course is not
good for walkers. not walking is really the only
negative point I would like to play the course
two days in a row to see if my putting improved.
Play Somewhere Else!!!
Too many options in KC to have to deal with rude staff. I like the course layout, and it is well maintained. Course manager and marshall were both extremely rude. If you must play in the area, play Drumm Farm. (great course, and management) Don't sacrifice customer service, course is not nice enough to make up for rude staff. If you have time to drive to other parts of the city play Tiffany Greens or Shoal Creek.
Stone Canyon
It was the first time I played this course. The course was in excellent shape. The greens were real challenging. I really enjoyed playing this course.
