The Golf Club At Oxford Greens

Course was recommended by a friend and while the on-line directions were not completely accurate, I did find it. Course has a spectacular layout , challenging but fair, and in excellent condition. Great experience and I will certainly be back. One concern is pace of play in that while our 18 holes were played in about 4 hrs 15 min, which is really good, our playing partners spoke of 5+ hrs for a round. This was echoed by the starter who told us to be prepared for just that. I do believe they are looking to work on that (on course rangers) and again my experience was fine, just a word of caution.

Everything was great... folks do need to repair divots as some greens were neglected.

Hot humid day and two slow player made me to play so lazy. Even though there are so many sand flies every holes made no focus on game.

Anyhow, the golf course was so nice shape and good maintenance. I played back tee about 7200 yards. Need good driver shot and straight every holes because there is no forgiveness. It was fun to play at the back tee but to give up a good score.

If I want to go this course again, the golf fee will be much chipper than normal cost they are charged.

Wow…..played here 5 weeks ago and I was quite impressed. After all, I brought my group to Oxford for many years when it was managed by another company, until we stopped coming about 6 years ago because the course was so neglected.

I recently heard that there was a new management company in place now and that they had even done work on re-doing what were clearly the worst sand traps in the whole state. So when we decided to try them again 5 weeks ago, we were pleasantly surprised.

Now, however, just a little more than one month later, the course is in HORRENDOUS shape.

Let me be very clear however…….those playing the

course are treating it like sh_t. Divots are not being

replaced, and ball marks on the greens are not

being fixed, and all of that is disgraceful, but add to that the fact that the tee boxes are in horrible shape and the fairways aren’t too far behind !

Does the Management team in Farmington truly care at all? What an absolute shame…….never again.

Tees were worn and greens were fast but many not repairing ball marks. Many holes cart path only. Has not rained much not sure why.

The only reason I am giving the course conditions 2 stars is because the greens have been almost destroyed by Careless golfers. There are dragged spike marks all over the greens and divots all over the place. The greens are fantastically designed with massive mounds in them and the only way to make them playable is they have to run smooth. Sadly they are so bumpy and dug up that no putt runs true. The one other issue I had was there were a high amount of stones in the bunkers. This was very worrying for my group because we did not watch to damage a wedge hitting out of the bunkers. But overall it is absolutely worth the money and hopefully I they can fix the greens.

2 types of golfers in general:

Type 1-those who want to get on with it, play with a rhythm. Generally better golfers.

Type 2- those who have no particular place to be and find the following highly amusing: constant whiffing/chunking/topping (of course not repairing), 5 minute walkabouts looking for that 3 year old scuffed Topflite after each painful to watch "shot", and then 5 putting (plumbobbing number 5, of course).

I know 30 handicappers that keep pace just fine (they pick up), but these Type 2's are happy to take it all in on a 5 hour + pace. They came to "get their moneys worth". Type 2's think that fun session at Topgolf is to be replicated on an actual course.

I'm not even knocking this--if you are type 2 then Oxford is your utopia, 5 stars all the way, Alliance has NAILED it. It's clearly a business strategy with Alliance and one that can have merit for the bottom line I suppose (sell a ton of high margin drinks to a captive audience for the whole day).

Here’s the issue: Alliance should just be up-front about it, and they're not. Their website says something about capitalizing on the fun of golf. Who's capitalizing? Who's having fun? They should let us all know (in advance) that type 2 golfers are welcome, that Oxford is their sanctuary. That way everybody wins--type 2's have a hoot of a time at Oxford and type 1's know to go elsewhere. Problem solved.

The pace was great. The only annoying part about the course was the divots on the green not being attended. Will definitely play again.
