Second hole, par-3, 182 (blues). A challenging tee shot, yet the hole becomes tougher when you land a good distance from the pin. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/21/2023

Fourth: The number 3 index, this par-4 or 424 will test your skills from tee to cup. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/21/2023

The par-3 ninth plays 197 yards from the blues. Its green is positioned and shaped like a Redan hole, but without the right-to-left cant. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/21/2023

Chuck, a good driver of the golf ball, prepares to tee off at the number 1 index hole at Oxford Greens, the par-4 twelfth. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/21/2023

The twelfth is named “Double Plateau” for its green, which means that the putting surface actually has three elevations. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/21/2023

The fourteenth, a par-4 of 418 with water on the left, is named “Plead,” and you may well find yourself begging it for mercy before putting out. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/21/2023

18th, par-4, 458: You’ll need to commit to your full swing (twice) to play a hole tagged with the name “Trust In.” Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/13/2021

16th: The short par-3 of 170 lives up to its moniker: “Fortress.” It’s green complex is built like one. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/13/2021

An earlier, summertime picture taken of the first hole, called “Road Out,” gives a glimpse of a green sided by a road (behind) and a pesky pot bunker. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/13/2021

The sixth–a.k.a. the “Red Oaks”--is index 13, but will still present a few problems enroute to a drive-and-pitch par. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/13/2021

“Timberlake” is hole seven, and the hole is all about avoiding the trees and playing some tricky angles from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/13/2021

An Autumn Fall From Grace
I try to play this course at least twice a year and it is one of my favorites in the region. I must say I came away from today’s round with the greatest disappointment I have ever had at Oxford Greens. First there is no starter to be found because the gentleman who supposedly should be doing it was also double duty with golf cart setup and returns. His absence allowed a slow foursome to jump in ahead of us at the turn, which backed up pace of play so bad that we skipped the 11th hole to get ahead of them.
But my biggest complaint was the complete absence of any grounds maintenance personnel on the entire course. 75% of the leaves have fallen from the trees, but from holes number 1 through 12 there has been no blowing of leaves in the rough and just off the cart paths and even some tee boxes, which is inexcusable. I understand it is autumn season and that puts a premium on staying in the fairway but today was ridiculous. Even for decent shots that were in the rough but inside the cart paths it was often impossible to find a ball that was swallowed up by masses of leaves that clearly had not been blown in at least three or four days. Very disappointing. And as has been mentioned by other reviewers, all the greens are aerated. Overall, very hard to get an accurate score between bumpy greens and decently played “lost” balls.
Challenging
Always enjoy playing this course. Be sure to pick the tees appropriate for your level of play. If you don’t, you probably won’t enjoy the course as much. Lots of challenging greens.
5 1/2 hr round; greens punched and not back filled. Golf now should post notice of courses under maintenance.
Aerated greens- horrible. Should have been alerted. Also, should be discounted. Wait three weeks to play. Big holes and very sandy. Ugh
Aeration
Aerated without notice - greens are terrible... wait three weeks. Few holes are cart path only- why. Fees should be discounted....
Aerated greens and fairways
The greens and fairways were aerated with no public knowledge. It should have been noted when you book a tee time. Could not putt the greens because the ball acted like you were playing bumper pool plus you couldn't judge the speed. The ball looked like a snowball rolling down hill picking up sand. There was no reason for cart path only. There has been very little rain recently. Again some notification when you book a tee time would be considerate. Not worth paying for those conditions.
Pace of play was EXCRUCIATING !!! Could of been avoided !!!
We were about to tee off when we noticed the starter letting a group of 6 off at the same time. Our group and the group in front of us confronted the starter. The starter stated they were playing best ball and it was OK'd by the office. Turned out not to be true.. The Starter was oblivious, didn't care , or couldn't comprehend the easily foreseeable issues ahead. We get to the 2nd hole Par 3. The group of 6 were on the green taking their time. (Clearly not best ball) The group in front of us waiting to tee off. Our group and the foursome behind us caught up as well. 18 Golfers on the 2nd Hole. What a mess. We call the clubhouse as this is not a great way to start your Sunday round. If it wasn't a 45 min ride to get there we would of demanded our money back and left then. After multiple calls to the clubhouse as we were averaging 25 mins per hole we were on our way to a 7.5 Hour round they advised they were sending a manager out. Needless to say that accomplished nothing. This course used to be one of the top public courses in CT. Save your $$$. The staff act as if you are bothering them when asking for common courtesy's. Really poor management. No Rangers 6 hour plus round... Unacceptable... Its really a shame as this used to be a great place to go. This %1000 could of been avoided if they had common sense and an ounce of common courtesy
Slow pace of play
Overall course in decent shape. Carts a little beat up and dirty from previous users. No rangers so the pace of play was about 5 hours.
Great Golf Course
The Golf Course was is great shape. As expected the course was challenging but the condition was in great shape for the time of the year.
Excellent challenging course
The course was in fine condition, staff is pretty friendly, greens are exceedingly difficult, undulating and fast
Oxford greens
In a word
AWFUL
Extremely slow painful
3 hours for 9 holes
I will not be back
No Pace of play management!
We had a t time at 2:27, there had been a starter, but he was absent when our time came.
Course is in great shape, and all was good until the 9th hole. There were 3 groups waiting to play, we made the 4th. Would have had a 2:30-40 front 9, but spent 30 plus minutes waiting at #9.
I called pro shop to ask for a raincheck for back 9 as it was 5 p.m. and there was no way we would finish before dark. They agreed, but didn't tell us it would be prorated. We paid $65 for 18 holes and instead of a raincheck got $22.50 in credit for another 18 holes because they don't have a 9 hole rate. The guy at pro shop acted like he didn't believe that there was a back up at the 9th. Although he admitted there wasn't a ranger on the course. I saw another player complaining after the round. Ridiculous, non existent course management from the management!
last September Golf
Course has many holes not playable for beginning to novice golfer. Pace of play was a little slower secondary to private functions finishing up. Just squeaked in 18 after teeing off at 2:36! Always worth playing at different times of the year .
Sloooow
Played on a weekend. Great staff. Fun course, Very slow pace,- and cart dies after 12 holes. Poor cell phone service-Ended up hiking my clubs back - as it was starting to get dark and I was frustrated at pace of play. . On the walk back encountered empty holes- needed a ranger to keep things moving.
Not impressed
Played last year and course was in much better shape. Some of the fairways were burnt or bare. Old carts. My cart died on the 3rd hole and walked till they replaced my cart. Slow play. Took 5 + hours to play 18.
