Chehalem Glenn Golf Club
About
Chehalem Glenn Golf Club sprawls across beautifully hilly terrain, providing a course that is not for the faint of heart. The course is defined by the dramatic changes in elevation, which can make it tough to walk. The steep hills make this a tough golf course even for high handicappers. Uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies abound and you'll also face forced carries to narrow landing areas as well as blind layup shots. The more open front nine is player friendly and the back nine is where it gets tougher with mostly tree-lined holes and more strategically placed bunkers. The golf course is as scenic as it is challenging with elevated tees and greens that overlooks the surrounding hills and valleys. The beauty and difficulty of the course has built Chehalem Glenn Golf Club a reputation as one of the greater Portland area's must-play courses.

4th green. Pretty typical of the course. That’s my ball by the pin from about 190 yds. Not bad, made for eagle. Photo submitted by markmcnwa on 11/20/2019

Chehalem Glenn Golf Course Photo submitted by AllenGoodall on 09/08/2015
Unbelievable value!
This course is a treasure! Great practice facilities and the course is challenging. The price was cheap compared to other courses and the greens roll quick. Had a great time!
Great course for the money
Sand bunkers need attention. You basically have to create your own lie whenever you get in one. Tee boxes were in pretty tough shape but it is early in the year and I expect it to get better.
Gimmicky
I started playing this course in October 2022. Every weekend I play the price is different. I play at the same time each weekend. Just played it and when I booked my tee time they said the greens were just sanded. I asked if there was a discount and he said there was. Upon check in, there wasn't.
Also, every garbage can on the course was overflowing with garbage, even the one at the entrance to the pro shop, which had garbage on the ground around it. It's also time to put rakes back on the course by the traps.
Play can be extremely slow at times. The problem is that there is a lot of distance between holes and when you are behind a group that is walking, it gets slow.
I like the course, but there needs to be more attention to detail. If that were done, then it would be a much more enjoyable golf experience.
Golf season on the way!
Hard to believe but I played 18 holes alone! No rain, recently aerated and sanded greens made putting even more of a challenge. I know it has to be done but I don’t have to enjoy it. It appeared that this was a day for mowing the areas in between the fairways and thank goodness on a couple drives! Overall the course is in very good shape getting ready for a long golf season, we all hope.
About 14,000 or so steps to walk, great golf and workout.

Great course and local. So challenging and fun to play. Find myself constantly checking the weather forecast so I can plan the next trip.

Chehalem Golf Course
This is my second time playing this course and it won’t be my last. Very friendly staff as well as accommodating. Manicured greens with a challenging layout yet playable for mid to higher handicaps in my opinion. Water tastefully in play and wonderful views given the surrounding landscape. A must play, worth the drive out.
Friendliest staff, great course layout.
Played in a pretty ideal situation in that we were first off the tee, slightly delayed due to frost. Staff kept everyone informed. We play pretty quick and with no one in front of us cruises through a round in about 3 hours.
Cold and muddy, but drier than last week
Still plugging when you land off the fairways, but it's drying out a bit. Great course, challenging but enjoyable.
Very challenging, impeccable greens, very muddy
This was the 5th time playing this Chehalem, and will absolutely keep this in my once a month lineup. The course features many tight fairways, elevated tee boxes or elevated greens, forgiving if you miss the fairways on most holes, sand traps were in great shape, and greens were impressively consistent and fast.
One of the few courses with a putting course, haven't played it yet but I will next time. Next to the putting course is a full length 20+ mat only driving range and a large practice putting/chipping green. The course is the only one I've played this year that has an entire practice hole available to public about 100 yards in length with multiple flags and sand traps. It would be easy to come here to train approaches, short game, and putting for little to no cost (if I lived closer I would be here doing just that a couple times a week)
The course is pretty tight and many holes have out of bounds or houses on one side that if you hit into you won't be finding or are not permitted to search for your balls. Fairway sand traps are well placed waiting to distract you and capture your ball. Lots of holes feature fairway water hazards to add to the challenge.
The rough is playable, little thick but not unplayable.
During summer you'll get plenty of roll out on the fairways, but since this is the PNW in the rainy season expect your ball to plug on nearly every shot, especially in the rough. I almost lost a shoe around the 9th green because as with most of the course this time of year is very muddy expect to sink up to an inch or two in some cases, make sure your shoes are laced tight.
This is a course that I would hesitate to walk, which I do 95% of the time when I play, simply because the distance between green to tee box on quite a few holes along with the amount of hills.
I would certainly recommend this course to anyone high handicappers are likely to lose 5+ balls per round, I'm a 5 handicap and lost 2 (1 OB and 1 in the rough plugged just off the fairway).
As far as pace of play goes, the first 4 times there was a marshall driving around keeping pace of play, which is nice given high handicappers are likely to be on a ball hunt on at least 1/3 holes.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the team. Thanks for visiting Chehalem Glenn Golf Club, and we hope to see you again in the future.
