Chehalem Glenn Golf Club
About
Chehalem Glenn Golf Club sprawls across beautifully hilly terrain, providing a course that is not for the faint of heart. The course is defined by the dramatic changes in elevation, which can make it tough to walk. The steep hills make this a tough golf course even for high handicappers. Uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies abound and you'll also face forced carries to narrow landing areas as well as blind layup shots. The more open front nine is player friendly and the back nine is where it gets tougher with mostly tree-lined holes and more strategically placed bunkers. The golf course is as scenic as it is challenging with elevated tees and greens that overlooks the surrounding hills and valleys. The beauty and difficulty of the course has built Chehalem Glenn Golf Club a reputation as one of the greater Portland area's must-play courses.

4th green. Pretty typical of the course. That’s my ball by the pin from about 190 yds. Not bad, made for eagle. Photo submitted by markmcnwa on 11/20/2019

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Great course layout. Very fun to play.
- Fairways are decent enough to play a nice round. Greens are mostly solid.
- Not a grip it and rip it course.
Cons:
-Pace of play is absolutely awful. We had 3 different groups on the tee box of a Par 3, waiting for the group on the green. We called the clubhouse and the marshall's response? "Nothing I can do."
- Plenty of mud areas on the course during the winter/spring months. Wear shoes that you don't care about sinking into an inch of mud in some spots.
Golf is more than a game/sport
Golf is more than a game/sport and I found out on Friday when I played Chehalem Glen. I was a new to this course and was matched up with three other single walking players. I made friends with common interests on an 18 hole journey. What a fun day , what a fun course . Thanks for a great day!
For the amount of rain that week I was amazed at the drainage and general conditions.
If traps were maintained would be 5 stars for sure
Played in late February just a few days after almost 2 months of steady rain and the course was surprisingly dry. Fairways ran out, greens were in great shape and rolling fast and true. Play was a little slow, but on a Saturday, after a frost delay when it's the first nice day, not surprising. My only real issue is the Sand Trapa are not maintained at all. Many of of them see more weeds then sand the ones they don't have weeds have minimal sand and are not raked out at all. Maybe this is just winter, but from what others have written, I sont think so Maybe because the price is so reasonable because of this. Will play again when in the area and would still recommend
Well first off the driving range was closed for maintenance, from what I could tell this happens every week. Never seen a course close the driving range every week at the same time and day.
Pace of play was just awful, this is what happens when the tee times are so close together (I believe 7 minutes). By hole 4 there was 4 groups on the same hole. It’s a par 5
Course conditions were wonderful except the bunkers, worst I’ve seen in awhile, grass growing in them , very little sand, pretty much unplayable.
Hi, 707loon. Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game. We are glad to see you rated the course conditions and value to be great during your game. Difficult and Fun
Course is always in good shape. You have to be on your game to stay out of trouble. There are a lot of elevation changes to make the game interesting.
Course absolutely worth playing over & over
Greens were amazing as always have played here so many times and it never disappoints.
Challenging Public Course
This is a really good muni. Over the past year I have played it about 40 times. The course calls for even a good player to have the ability to hit a wide variety of shots utilizing many of the clubs in their bag. The course has allot of elevation change so many people choose to ride vs walk. Many of the fairways are tree lined with the right hand side of the course presenting many hazards. Keep this in mind if you slice the ball. Fairways and greens are always in good to excellent condition - although, they could be rolled more frequently. The downside is the traps. Many of the traps need improved drainage, better base, and more sand. All things considered, I really like the course and I think it is a great value for the money.
Just for perspective, I am a 6.1 GHIN.
Visually stunning course.
We played from the tips and was very challenging yet manageable. Greens were rolling fast and pin location was tricky. Couple of par 3s were over 200 yards and visually long looking par 4s and 5s. Overall fun and challenging course.
Great course, just don’t walk.
Really enjoyed playing this course for all of the 5 star ratings herein. However, it is just too hilly to walk it unless you are a billy goat.
They had just aerated the fairways and greens and it was still in great shape.
sand traps need work
The course is usually in good condition EXCEPT the sand traps. For several years, the traps struggle with having sand in them, the sand not being compacted into concrete, having drainage problems that create water runoff ravines, have grass growing in the trap, etc. I wish they would spend more time and effort on the sand traps, otherwise always enjoy the course.
Always great
I love playing here. The only negative is when it's popular you can be sitting and waiting at every shot, but other than that it's a great value with elevation changes.
The course is difficult for high handicappers. The greens are very tough because of the slope, but fun to putt on. One suggestion: more sand in the traps.
Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give Chehalem Glenn Golf Club another try in the near future.
Beautiful layout
The course was in fabulous condition from tee to green. Pace of play was a lttle slow and the range was on mats which was strange since the grass looked perfect and it was not raining.
I Love Chehalem
One of my favorite courses in the area but the greens were rolling especially slow today?
Good condition
Course was in good condition overall. Some cancer along the fairways but the green were exceptional. Challenging layout but still hacker friendly.
