Chehalem Glenn Golf Club
About
Chehalem Glenn Golf Club sprawls across beautifully hilly terrain, providing a course that is not for the faint of heart. The course is defined by the dramatic changes in elevation, which can make it tough to walk. The steep hills make this a tough golf course even for high handicappers. Uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies abound and you'll also face forced carries to narrow landing areas as well as blind layup shots. The more open front nine is player friendly and the back nine is where it gets tougher with mostly tree-lined holes and more strategically placed bunkers. The golf course is as scenic as it is challenging with elevated tees and greens that overlooks the surrounding hills and valleys. The beauty and difficulty of the course has built Chehalem Glenn Golf Club a reputation as one of the greater Portland area's must-play courses.

4th green. Pretty typical of the course. That’s my ball by the pin from about 190 yds. Not bad, made for eagle. Photo submitted by markmcnwa on 11/20/2019

Chehalem Glenn Golf Course Photo submitted by AllenGoodall on 09/08/2015
Cool, threatening day, but a nice day on the golf course
Chehalem Glenn is what it is ... a muni without a big budget that has a challenging layout based on the native landscape. That’s not to say it isn’t fun or challenging. Most of the tees were in reasonable condition as were the fairways, rough and greens. The traps are another story. They have been working on the drainage on some of them and those are still unplayable. Other have weeds growing in them or simply have very limited amount of sand in them. They need to address the sand issue or make them into green side grass bunkers.
Should also note that there was not a beverage cart operating.
Take a cart!
- Friendly and helpful staff, and clean freshly charged carts
- Decent practice range (no grass, just mats), and putting greens
- Carts are $15 (seems high to me but I usually walk)...This time I paid for a cart as Chehalem Glenn is not a very walkable course due to hilly terrain, especially 6, 9-12, and 14 with some long stretches between a few greens and the next tee
- Pace of play was reasonable (3hr 2-some on Fri morning, 8-11am), and a Marshall was out on patrol to manage pace of groups on front and back 9s
- Plenty of poison oak here, so stay out of the woods
- I enjoyed all the holes here ... even 9-11, which just feel and look odd to my eye
- Cool off on the shaded patio after the round
- Greens were in good shape but kinda slow, and many bunkers are in a state of ‘ground under repair’
The Crossings at Chehalem
A few holes reminded me of some of the great courses I played in San Diego. Fairways and greens are in excellent shape. We only played the front side, 2 hours of pull cart golf was just right for today! Will return for sure....
Golf
Greens and traps need some work.
Greens were really slow and bumby
Traps need new sand..
Great Value but SLOW Greens
Chehalem Glenn is one of the best values around and the course is usually in good shape. There are a couple funky holes but it is otherwise enjoyable and can be a challenge if you’re not hitting the ball straight. However, my biggest complaint is that the greens are always very slow. Some of the slowest I’ve seen. Today was a bit of an exception because they were punched recently but they always have the same issue. If the greens ran at a decent pace, the course would earn a much higher rating.
great day in the Glenn
this is a beautiful course but difficult to walk. ride and enjoy. challenging holes abound
Amazing
The coarse was in amazing condition. The weather was perfect and they had not plugged the greens yet like most coarses in the area.
Nice Course
Fun course to play. Back 9 is challenging to play if you’re not a long hitter. But overall a nice experience.
Challenging set up
Good course, but slow play especially for March. One problem is this is a cart path only on this very hilly course with wide fairways causing delays as people keep walking back and forth to carts often over 30 yards away. Seemed like a lot of walkers too which is fine if your not a senior or have problems with the terrain.
Glean the Glenn
Really a fun and beautiful course, with a lot of elevation changes. For most golfers, this would be a difficult walk; particularly because of some lengthy distances between holes. I highly recommend a golf cart. Pace of play was about 4&1/2 hours, but the course isn't easy -- and it was quite full of players that day (Friday). Unless you've a really good golfer, I'd suggest the "white" tees -- they'll give most of us quite enough of a challenge. The blue tees are decidedly harder.
Pretty Course
Fall leaves make for great colors. Little narrow sometimes, but still fun.
Great Track
We couldn't have asked for a better day for golf. The sun was shining and the course was in good shape save for the greens which were still a little bumpy and sandy from them being punched. But for $45 it was a great value. The fairways and tee boxes were in spectacular shape and the staff is always very friendly. The course is challenging but it rewards good shots off the tee where you can score.
Incredible slow play on weekends
Good course and nice staff. Marshall’s are worthless as the pace of play on a Saturday was 5 1/2 hours, horrible. Marshall’s acknowledged pace was slow but did not feel they had authority to ask people to pick up their pace. My advice is avoid weekends at this course. Week days except Friday are fine.
Greens were punched a week ago
They greens are soft, sandy, and full of bumps. Other than that the course is very playable. Opportunity abounds for hitting allot of different types of shots. Fun place to play ... especially for the money.
Pace of play too slow
The last 3 times I have played Chehalem the pace was too slow and the player assistants seem incapable of doing anything. On Friday the group ahead of us was a hole and a half behind, and players were hitting extra shots. We learned it was the first time one of them had ever played. That’s not the course for that. Instead of just mentioning slow play to a group, player assistants should stay with the group and offer advice for ready golf until the group catches up or displays that they get it. I hear the same complaints from other golfing friendsabout Chehalem. This course will be my last choice which is a shame as it is a really impressive track.
Amazing value
Greens were a little burnt from the long summer but pin locations were challenging. One of my favorite courses in the Valley.
