Chehalem Glenn Golf Club
About
Chehalem Glenn Golf Club sprawls across beautifully hilly terrain, providing a course that is not for the faint of heart. The course is defined by the dramatic changes in elevation, which can make it tough to walk. The steep hills make this a tough golf course even for high handicappers. Uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies abound and you'll also face forced carries to narrow landing areas as well as blind layup shots. The more open front nine is player friendly and the back nine is where it gets tougher with mostly tree-lined holes and more strategically placed bunkers. The golf course is as scenic as it is challenging with elevated tees and greens that overlooks the surrounding hills and valleys. The beauty and difficulty of the course has built Chehalem Glenn Golf Club a reputation as one of the greater Portland area's must-play courses.

4th green. Pretty typical of the course. That’s my ball by the pin from about 190 yds. Not bad, made for eagle. Photo submitted by markmcnwa on 11/20/2019

Bunkers
The bunkers are in horrible shape and should be marked ground under repair! Greens where plugged late but once they heal will put well. Someone needs to get on the superintendent to dedicate time and effort into getting the bunkers into a respectable shape as they are currently looking like a trailer park lawn.
Poor condition
They charged full price for a course that had weeds in every sand trap, half the traps were closed for ground under repair. The greens were recently plugged and the fairways were recently plugged and sanded. There were no beverage/snack carts. Poor value. Disappointing.
I have played here multiple times and the staff is always very cordial and friendly.
A little neglected
I've played this course several times, the tees, fairways and rough were in great shape. The greens had just been punched, and the course gave a $10 credit to be used on the next round. What was disappointing was that the bunkers haven't been touched since last season. The sand was hard packed and full of weeds and patches of grass.
Poor course conditions
When we got there they told us they had punched the greens and fairways. For the first week in May this should have been done much earlier so the course was ready for peak play.. Putting was impossable so we just took 2 strokes and walked on.
Also fairway bunkers had weeds and little to no sand.
Fix the sand traps
A great day for golf and always a challenging course, but when are they going to fix the traps and make them playable. Several were marked as ground under repair. Many unmarked traps were either like concrete, a moonscape or were about 10-20% tufts of grass. It is the one thing holding this course back.
My kryptonite
Whenever I think I’ve got my game together, I go walk Chehalem and get humbled. It’s as tough a course to walk as any in Portland. The elevation changes are extreme. Beautiful course but one of the hardest to walk. I actually shot my personal best on it last week. They’ve punched and sanded the greens so they’ll be slow for another week or so.
Wet Weather Golf
It had not rained in a few days and the fairways were in good shape. If you were off the fairway, almost a guaranteed plunged ball in the long grass and difficult to find. I would not recommend playing this course in the wet weather.
Most professional course in my area. Challenging, 11hills if you walk. Wonderful greens.
Great Course
For about a 12-15 handicap player, this course is challenging but yet really fun. It’s not a flat course so it makes you think a lot so make sure your yardage is down before you play here or you’ll have a long day. Don’t hit it into the bunkers because it’s not maintained very well (it’s still winter right now). Bottom line, this course is worth it and I’d come here all the time if I never lived an hour away.
Great Course/Wrong Season
This is really wonderful course I’m looking forward to playing it in dryer conditions. Lot of plugged balls led to a 6 hour round of golf. Other than that the course was outstanding.
Pristine & Fun
As usual, the course was very playable even after only a few days since some major rain. Greens were running smooth, fairways were well maintained and tee boxes in solid condition, no mats. It felt like a round in summer the only difference being the temperature. Chehalem Glenn has such beautiful scenery and variety in the hole layouts with vistas and ravines to play over, that it makes every shot feel unique. Looking forward to our next visit!
Nice day at the course
Frost delay but they were back on schedule by our 11am tee time... Greens were in great shape and no plugged balls in the fairway... what more can you ask for in December
A beautiful course that challenged my skills
This was my first time on the course. A beautiful sight to view. Over the river and thru the canyons, up and down and thru the trees. The course was well designed to challenge the skills of most players. Accuracy is a must for most drives on all holes due to the very long rough. You had to be on top of the ball in the rough to locate it. We lost over a dozen ball in the long rough - most of it well over 3-6 inches deep. It as been wet so I can understand not mowing - but wow it was difficult to find errant tee shots. The greens were all a challenge as a result of the multi-levels and pitch changes. I would like to play this course again - during a dryer season and it had been mowed.
Sand traps need more Sand
Course is in overall great shape. It has been really dry here this summer but I think they need to cut back on the watering. Lots of muddy balls in the fairway. Greens are super soft and slow.
FYI people need to learn to fix there ball marks!!!
Biggest complaint is the condition of the sand traps all year. Not enough sand and they are 90% of the time soaking wet. You cannot use an open blade becuase you will just skull the ball.
