Major Progress!
Towhee club (formerly kings creek) has a bit of a troubled past. This course is under new management and is improving fast! The course is in great shape and was rolling great. The greens have been redone and many bunkers have been converted from sand to grass. The clubhouse is a trailer right now, but the renderings of the construction in progress look great! This seems like a course on an upward swing!
Fun Course
We had a couple of issues. A high school team was playing and walking. We were told they were ahead of us, but wasn't explained that they were only 2 holes ahead of us. So we got stuck behind them for a couple of holes which really slowed our pace of play, so we left hole 6 and went to 10 to pass them us, as they were covering holes 6-9. After that, we were able to move pretty quick. Only other feedback is greens were very fast and even chips were rolling right off, and the grounds were overall pretty hard. But the course was great to play and the staff was great. Its a newer course so I do feel that over time the grounds will get better with more care.
Lots of construction!!
Pros:
Friendly staff
Most fairways are ok but still need some work.
Bunkers are decent with good sand. A little edging here and there would make them great.
Cons:
They are building a new clubhouse and extending a subdivision adjacent to the course.
Greens still need work. Quite a few bare spots.
Many bare spots around cart paths.
Overall:
Overpriced!! $60+ Is about $10-$15 too high. $50+ during the week is extremely high especially given the conditions on and around the course. $45 on the weekends and $25-$30 during the week until construction and conditions improve seem more appropriate.
I don’t recommend this course at this price. This is the closest course to my house but I’ll drive further for a better experience and/orvalue.
Most Improved Award
Towhee formerly known as Kings Creek is the winner of the “most improved” golf course in TN as voted by me. This track has been in bankruptcy as far as I know for the last 3 or so yrs. it got bought last year by some folks who are fully invested in turning it into a 5star course. If you’ve played here over the yrs you may know how it went from decent course to goat path and now on its way to excellence. The 100% rebuilt greens are already fantastic and rolling very true. They will only get better with time. The layout has always been good and now the conditions will match. All new sand in the bunkers and starting construction on an epic clubhouse. Spring Hill golfers rejoice Towhee is here to fill the void of quality golf in our town! No longer need to drive 30-60 min to find a quality round!
On It's Way
A couple years ago Kings Creek was an embarrassment. Truly terrible conditions, Weeds growing in the bunkers. Greens tore up. The only 18 hole course within a 15 mile radius with an Arnold Palmer design left a lot to be desired.
The Towhee Club is trying to erase all of that. It will take time. The clubhouse has been torn down and currently have a set up in a trailer. Some of the greens still have bald spots close to the fringe, and a few of the tee boxes need to be re-built to flatten them out.
On the positive side, the greens roll really well. Fairways were great. They took out several bunkers and the ones they have left, have great sand.
After tax, 18 holes w/ cart on the weekend was $61. Still pricey for no clubhouse, and some chewed up greens. Overall, I will probably play here 1x/month, given the price point. Henry Horton will continue to be my go-to.
Love the course
Kings Creek (now Towhee Golf Course) is definitely well on the road back to greatness. The entire course has been rehabilitated from the greens to the fairways, rough, and especially the bunkers. They are repairing the bridge on the 18th hole that was washed out a couple of years ago, and they are in the process of building a new pavilion and clubhouse. Towhee is on the way to becoming one of the best golf courses in Central Tennessee. I love Towhee Golf Course (even though it will probably always be Kings Creek to me)
Too expensive for the shape it’s in.
Should be giving people some sort of discounted rate. Greens are great , yes. But everywhere else not very good shape at all. Shouldn’t be charging full price. Not sure if I can come back until...
A. Course is in much much better shape (for the price we paid)
B. Price is overall lowered. Should be $40-45. Not $62
The course is great, played slow due to cold weather & wind. Still in winter conditions. Looking forward to playing in Spring/Summer
Definitely on the rise
It shows the new ownership has put a lot of work into this course. I can’t wait to see it flourish this spring and summer
Rejuvenated
This course is on its way to be great. A lot of work has gone into it recently and it shows.
