Great course
My wife and I really enjoyed playing Towhee.
Suzie greates us warmly when we checked in.
I played off the brown tees which meant needing to drive over rivers and ponds so challenging but pretty open after that.
Greens were fast and difficult but readable.
I shot my best round for a while.
We had bar snack and drinks in the modern clubhouse and weee served by Kelly who was delightful.
The course was great value for money and Is recommend it to anyone.
I’m playing it again next week!
Too Crowded/Poor Conditions
This wouldn't be a bad place to play if it wasn't so crowded. My guess is the other golf courses in the area are in much worse shape, hence the crowds here at Towhee. VERY slow pace of play. 3 & 4 player parties were stacked up. The front 9 went pretty smooth. Only waited on the last 3 holes which unfortunately, led to the back 9. It took over 3hrs to play the back 9. My entire round is usually done in under 3hrs. Very disappointing! The tee boxes were in terrible shape. Not properly mowed, lots of broken tees, and some holes were missing color markers. The fairways were in great shape and the bunkers were as well. But the greens need some work! Lots of "weed grass" in the tiff surface, which didn't allow for a true putting surface. Again, very disappointing. Compared to the RTJ public courses I'm used to playing in AL, this course unfortunately, did not meet expectations. I most likely will not be playing here or recommending this course to my golf buddies in the near future.
Overpriced and pushed the locals out
I’m done with this course. Management only cares about catering to the rich and fratty.
They delete any negative FB or Instagram posts or reviews. Just shows their complete disregard for customer service. Just read the other reviews here. Brantley does nothing to address legitimate complaints.
This is not a course for the locals. They’ve raised their players pass from $95 in 2021 to $400 in 2024. What a rip off. No matter what they tell you, you will not save money buying the players card. It is statistically improbable for most people.
The staff, except Chris, are rude. They just want you to pay and go off on your way. Most of the time they have a bad attitude.
The online tee time prices are deceptive and the online prices will not be honored, if you bring it up in person. I once found an online late afternoon tee time for $35 and when I went in person and asked how much it would be, they looked at me like I was crazy and told me their standard rate is $55. And they told me that I was wrong when it was on their website that it would be $35. Do not expect them to honor online prices in person at the pro shop. They will ONLY honor it if you reserve the time on the website.
Also the pricing. Morning prices are $85 for 18… I’ve played at PGA tournament courses for half that price. Even the latest tee times at 6:30 pm are $55. Complete money grab. You may get through just 3 holes based on how slow play is here and the fact that there’s only an hour of light left out. They knowingly do this and even states online that there will be no refunds. Deceptive and unethical. Even if it’s pouring rain and no one is out there, they’ll want full price. They claim to use “dynamic pricing” based on demand but might as well just call it “full price” all year round.
Also this place has extremely poor communication. They never announce if there is a tournament and the course and driving range are closed. You typically find out after you get there.
Make Chris the GM. He’s the only one with any customer service acumen.
Stay clear of this place. Go to Pillow Springs in Columbia, Vinny’s links in Nashville, or Henry Hortons. Might as well drive down to Huntsville and play 18 at the airport course. It’s $23 and you can walk.
Better and better
The course is in the best shape it’s been for years, especially the fairways. The greens and surrounds were also good. Traps need some fresh sand since they’re a bit hard and you have to hit more of a pick/chip than an open-face sand shot. But on the whole very good.
The clubhouse, bar and food service were very good.
thumbs up to grounds crew
Greens were quick and true probably 11 or 12 on stimp. Fairways were in great condition also. My wife is a higher handicapper, the ball really sat up....she could hit her fairway shots cleanly.
Needs some water!
With any club over a wedge, any ball landing on the green wouldn’t hold the green. Greens were sanded but were very dry. Needed a hammer to get a tee into the ground on tee boxes. No water stations on the course but cold bottled water available for free on 1st and 10th holes. Nice array of tee boxes to choose from for all handicap levels. Pace of play was slow due to several large groups playing that day. I thought $90 was about $20 too much for the quality of the course.
Terrible!!
Rude people. Course in terrible shapes. Big drains everywhere on fairways and big holes swallow golf shots. Rough tracks in Fairways. Cart lost charge on hole 16. I had to push my own golf cart on last 2 holes uphill. Their staff watched me and didnt help until i was on green at 18 beside clubhouse already. The quality of the course overall sucks. Manager has very smart mouth. He kept trying to get us to eat there when we didnt want to. He said usually 10 carts lose charge everyday and thats normal. 🤣.. unreal... Ive played hundreds of courses. This one is the worst. They coukd give me a free round and I wouldnt be back. Woe 🤣
Great restaurant
Had a great round of golf. Then an amazing meal @ their restaurant.
