Par 5 Bust
The greens, while quick, were in rough condition. The course needs to stress to its patrons to fix ball marks and replace divots. There was also a large group of highly intoxicated 20-somethings that were borderline disorderly. They might have been part of the reason why the greens were so beat up.
As for the par 5's. I was a little disappointed that all 4 presented no risk/reward for going for it in two. Either the par 5 was to long or to narrow to facilitate a risky shot of 230+ to reach in two. That made it ... boring. Worth it if you can get the golfnow.com rate of $35. $70 is way to high for this course.
A challenging but enjoyable round of golf
This course has become one of my favorites to play. It is a challenging and well maintained course that offers plenty of eye appeal and begs for great shots. Make sure you get out of bed on the right side before playing otherwise it could prove to be a difficult day especially when you chose the wrong set of tees to play.
If only it wasn't so slow!
The course itself (at least what I played) was enjoyable, but even though I started just after 3, I didn't finish by 8 and was evicted after 16 holes. Yes, nearly 5 hours for 16 holes. If it wasn't for a nice golf now deal ($30 for the round with cart), I would have been irate. Regardless, I wouldn't suggest this course to friends for a weekend round.
Greens were a little rough around the hole (but that is probably because of the time).
Unless there is a nice deal again in the fall or spring when there are fewer golfers, I doubt I will play here again.
Course is over priced
The course is beautiful but is to costly. I have played the course 3 times over the last 3 years and the previous times it was in great shape. This time some of the greens were aerated and the others were not in good shape. Several sand traps were not raked at all and I think this was partly due to the fact that there were hardly any rakes in the humongous sand traps.I was disappointed with the conditions.
Need to play a few times to get a feel
I'm playing a tournament at FH in a few weeks so I wanted to get a feel. The course starts easy, but gave me a chance to appreciate the greens. There is undulation on every hole, but it's gentle. No sharp breaks, The undulation is sometimes hard to detect so take your time to read the greens.
Pay attention to the names given to each hole because they give clues that may not be obvious from the tee. You need to think on this course, placement of shots is key. If you don't hit to the right spot, you can find yourself in trouble. The ball rolls well on this course with all the hills so even a poorly struck shot could have good results. The first 8 holes are scoreable so take advantage. The 9th hole is the first real challenge where you need two good shots or a big score can result.
The back 9 is completely different. Take advantage of the first five holes, as 15-18 will test your endurance and patience. Especially on 15 and 16, you need to place your tee ball in the right spot, otherwise you're playing for bogey. On 15, the ground is either bare or divot filled where most people lay up on the second shot (80 yards) so it may be better to layup around 120 (a down slope funnels many balls to the 80 yard zone). 16 requires a precise tee shot. 17 requires a well struck iron. 18 is more open but has plenty of trouble. It is easy to have a high score on any of these 4 holes.
The greens are shaved, perhaps too much. They play quick, but are fair. I found it hard to get close to a pin with approach shots, not knowing how the greens undulated.
The key here is not to be greedy. Take your medicine sometimes, and take advantage of the scoreable holes.
The rack rate seems high, but there are discount rates out there.
Beautiful and Challenging Course
The course is a challenge. You need to keep it in the fairway as there are plenty of trees, deep thick grass and natural areas beyond the rough. The bunkers (and there are many) are well maintained with fluffy sand that I usually don't expect at a muni. The rest of the course was in great shape as well. My only complaint would be that the greens could use a little more upkeep as there were quite a few ball marks. They rolled true and consistent however.
It had been six years since I last played Foxford Hills. I'm not sure why it's been so long. I certainly won't wait that long to return.
Fantastic course intertwining through a small community
Arrived a bit late as usual so i missed my warm up range session. Clubhouse is very quaint as is the pro shop but one thing was clear that here, nothing else matters but golf. Had about 10 minutes before my tee time so i tried practicing my putting but wound up socializing half the time trying to get a feel of the course from the regulars. Little did i know that i really should of paid more attention to the putting since it became my biggest hindrance once on the course.
Starter informed us that we would be starting off on the 10th this day to due early morning maintenance on the front nine. I stood up on the tee box looked out onto the 10th and i new i would be in for a treat on this day. Originally i planned on teeing off from the tips but i decided to put my pride in its place and tried the gold tees instead. That ended up being a wise choice and pretty much the only one i'd make that day.
Gripped it and ripped it and i was off. Bunkers are in play almost every hole so shot selection and yardages are crucial. Dont be afraid to holster the driver for a couple holes to take some of the dangers away from play. I was fortunate this day and managed to hit the fairways almost at will. Still had some unfortunate bouces into bunkers but thats the game. The course is a fusion of a St. Andrews and Bethpage black. Bunkers are ameoba-like and scattered all over the course and deep in some spots so a good sand game is a necessity here. Water came into play on a few holes but avoidable. On a course this size, the lack of gps in the carts was an inconvenience and is something i believe the course should look into. I ended up trusting my phones gps app and that sufficed but not as efficient as you would like it.
Fairways were in excellent shape and the divots from shots peeled off the track like banana peels. It was a pleasure replacing the divots back into the groove since they fit perfectly. The greens were superbly fast and windy just the way i like it. Clearly getting on the green was half the battle. I would highly encourage taking your time on the green. Look each putt over from a couple angles. The pin locations were a bit difficult on this day, usually tucked away in the corners of the quite small greens. A straight putt is hard to come by around here and when they do your almost expecting a turn somewhere. Patience and a solid stroke is paramount every time.
Pace of play was on cue at about 4.5 hours. Had a slight back up on a couple holes(usually the par 5s) but that gave you enough time for introspection on the previous holes.
The pick of the litter in terms of holes for me were the driveable par 4-12th, majestic 15th (my favorite), 600+yd 6th, and the treacherous 2nd.
Id highly recommend this course too anyone and everyone that can make it down there. Drive from downtown was a nightmare but well worth it. If planning on driving from the city a car pool and navigation planning are highly advised ahead of time. If your lucky and live near the area without the hassle of highways and traffic you shouldnt think twice. Prices were reasonable, friendly and courteous service, lack of typical country club pretentiousness on top of the typically warm midwestern hospitality made this course a welcoming utopia away from the daily hustle and bustle. No doubt i will be back and the next time i will squeeze in a range session and at least 20-30 minutes on the putting green( 3 putted 7 times!!!- personal worst)

Interesting course layout
The course was in great condition. No two holes were alike. The pace of play was excellent.( less than 4 hours on a Sunday morning). The ranger was friendly and helpful...
nice course at northwest sub
good price for the value. you have to place the ball in right position to score. however, it also be a problem that bad golfers do spend much more time to look for their balls :(
Fantastic
Fantastic course that sometimes gets overlooked. Tree lined fairways are great, and it's all very well maintained.
Absoultly Fantastic
I have played this course about 5 times this season. The staff and course exceeds my expectations. Play it some of the runs are incredible.
Great looking coarse
Coarse was in great shape for the time of year. Greens rolled very good. We had a great time!
Just DO IT!
Nested very quietly in no ware sits this top notch course! Great design & layout, friendly staff, fabulous pricing, this is place is grade A+ & deserves it’s accolades. Hands down one of the most aesthetic layouts you’ll find, rivaling the big boy private courses, seriously. If you care about the WOW factor, you will sit back on a few holes both b-4 teeing off & after sinking your puts & say WOW. I have to admit, that this place has a soft spot in my heart as one of the top 10 public courses in Chicago. Ohh BTW did I mention challenging? This place is it & for their regular season pricing it’s tuff to beat. If you’re looking to get kicked in the pants by a course, check it out. PS…bring an extra sleeve of balls, you just might have to go to the well for them
The course is tough but fair.Nicely laid out
The course was in good shape for the time of year. The sand traps did have some rocks in them.Nice course well worth the price
Very impressed
I was very pleased. Staff was extremely friendly. Fairway grass is in fantastic shape, near perfect to hit from. Rough's were steep and tough to encourage you to hit the fairway.
greens were very consistant and moved smoothly.
beautiful rolling fairways
the condition of the course was wonderful for november, and the reduced green fees are hard to pass up.
Great layout on a great piece of property.
My complaint is about condition of the greens. I enjoy the course design and the views but the greens were seriously pockmarked and need attention. I have had this experience here in the past as well.,
Fine layout in very good condition
It takes a few rounds to get to know the course. The par 5, 15th hole is modelled after a similar hole on Kemper Lakes. It requires accuracy to a small elevated green. You can go low here if you keep the ball in the fairway. Fun course with challanges.
Challenging course. Lots of sand traps
The course was extremely wet in the fairways even though we didn't have rain. It was hard to hit the ball with iron as they dug into the wet ground. The green were fair. A fun play to play
