Course in good shape
Very good value for the money as green fees include cart. Pace of play 4.5 hrs with usual hold up on par 3's at 2 and 12.
Good Ol' Newlies
Newlands is a very old course that presents itself well. Winter golf here is quite good and very affordable. I would recommend it to anyone. Currently the course has some bare tee boxes, some mucky fairways and the greens are a bit rough. However the course has been neatly trimmed up and maintained and is very playable. Don't expect much better elsewhere - especially in February!
Newlands a mostly muddy mess
Course was wet, muddy, and overall in very poor condition. Many of the fairways had little to no grass. If you don't mind any of that, the $25 rates are good value. Otherwise, lots of other courses in much better condition, are available.
The food at this course is very good.
The pace of play was very good. We enjoyed our game there.
Jeckyll and Hyde
Winter has definitely arrived which around here means lots of rain and wet grounds. As far as Newlands is concerned the course is OK when you are playing the holes that are not down at the bottom Those holes are barely playable and if you are going to walk I would definitely wear your mudders. I wish I had. Having said that the greens were a little slow but in good shape.
Disappointing experience.
Book weekly rounds at the course all with a cart included. Staff have all been great to this point but will have to look at other courses in the future. The course was empty when i arrived for my round and upon check in the starter Jay stated that they no longer provide carts and i would have to walk. I tried to explain that i booked online two weeks prior and it clearly included a cart when i booked and that i had not brought my cart for that reason. He basically called me a liar and argued with me at length.
The winter months are when many Courses struggle to remain profitable and with thirty carts sitting in line unused and the course empty the starter should have used better sense than alienating someone who has supported them on a regular basis and now will take those funds elsewhere.
Good value
The course was wet but playable. The online rates do not include a golf cart now. Still good value for a round of golf. For the amount of rain we have received the fairways and greens are well maintained.
A lift clean and place round
We have had a lot of rain in the last few days but the sun came out on wednesday afternoon and the course played surprisingly well.
Playing it cart path only is not bad as they are laid out well. Pace of play was good a little less than 31/2 hrs.
Good value.
Where else can you play 18 holes with a cart for $20 (special promo) or $25? Book online and save. I play one or two times a week, weather permitting. Cart paths only, winter rules.
Excellent
The staff is very friendly and helpful and the course is in great condition.
The price is right
I played 18 with a cart and it only cost me $25!! That is why I recommend this course. The greens were being punched and sanded the day I was there (Lucky me, lol). Oh well, it needs to be done. The greens are smallish, but I like that about this course. The fairways were wide and in decent shape. There were a few blind tee shots that are kinda goofy. Best to join a local for some tee shot tips. The tenth hole starts way out in the middle of the course, so you go past the clubhouse half way thru the 11th hole.
One last thing. The fellow in the pro shop age 40ish did not even look up at me when I walked in the door. I went and stood by the cash till for over a minute before he looked up at me, and he didn't say hello. He said, "can I help you?" I said hi, talked to him, and he stayed guarded for about 2 minutes before he warmed up and became friendly.
Always fair to play
From the beginning to end..front desk until the end of the day, it was and always will be one of my favorite courses to play..will always recommend this facility..the on course personnel as well, helpful and show heart..coodos to them as well..
The course is very well laid out.
Enjoyed an affordable round of golf on a beautiful day. Was a very enjoyable experience.
The good the bad and it's ugly
Poor conditions staff was unfriendly and was kick out at 7:40pm cause the staff wanted to lock up all the golf carts for the night
In all we finished 13 holes for the $40 twillight fee
Great course
Very challenging golf course with good condition fairways and greens. Also has excellent restoran with numerous of different kind of food.
The course has good condition.
The course is good and challengable, however some people playing speed is too slow. Had to wait a quite time..
very friendly
I liked the course and would recommend it to anyone. It is not overly manicured, but you get what you pay for. Was fun. Needs a little work on the sand traps.
Slow play and slow bumpy tiny greens
This course has a lot of corky holes mostly very tiny fairways and very tiny greens. There are a lot of terrible players who play the course. It's a cheap course to play not much character to it. The day I was there I even saw guys golfing without there shirts on. The level of play out there is horrendous, if you go out there keep your head up for golf balls coming at you from every direction. The pace of play is very slow due to the amount of terrible players out there. The greens are ridiculous there are thousands of ball marks on them. It's like no one knows how to repair a ball mark. The greens are also very slow and bumpy. The Racquet club Facility's and dining are pretty good. The golf course is below average and lacks character.
I'd go back
First time playing and I enjoyed it, good course if you book it on the Golf Now app.. I paid $25 on a weekday at 3pm and it includes a power cart. It was backed up pretty bad for the first five holes but everyone started to spread out after that, it took 4hrs 45 mins. The only other bad thing was that my cart had a sign taped to the steering wheel telling me to be careful, cart doesn't turn left well.. On the plus side I only lost one ball all day. Most people I asked about Newlands said it wasn't worth the price, but if you can play for cheap it's worth checking out for yourself, I'll play again
I'm not sure why you gave them 4 stars ????. I had a virtually identical experience. I played there eight times this year with no problems and then THIS happened.. At least the guy at the counter comped me a pull cart since I left mine at home.
