Punched Greens
I asked when I booked if the greens had been punched. They said they punched them 2 weeks ago but I think it was more like 1 week ago. It was impossible to putt on those greens. Could have had a good round if not for that.
Good value
Course drained well and pace of play was good. Greens were in good condition.
GolfNow Rate
Played the last two days at 3 pm for $12 both times thanks to "Hot Rates". The rate included a cart, but I chose to walk today as it is a flat course. For the money, the course is a really great value. I mean TWELVE DOLLARS... Seriously?! Even the regular green fees seem to max out at $30 on GolfNow at this time of year. No, it's not Augusta National (or even one of the high end Vancouver courses), but it certainly isn't bad. It's short (6100 yards off the tips), but it's very narrow and the greens are small so its enough of a challenge. Conditions were ok.. greens are a bit slow as it appeared they punched them in the last week or so, but it wasn't a complete "goat track" or anything. Fairways were a bit soggy and the ball plugged a few times on tee shots and there were some muddy spots. But let's be real here: it's a heck of a deal for a decent day on the links. If you are aren't too picky about playing a premium course, I'd definitely recommend this one. In fact, I booked another $12 tee time for tomorrow!
will go again
the course was challenging enough, plays long but in great shape even on a poor weather day. staff was very nice and helpful. the only bad thing was it was hard to fine a cart that worked. lots to pick from. first cart had no strap buckle, 2nd had no gas pedal, third had no straps and no windshield, forth was the charm but had to wander the lot to find it.
Letting it go
This was one of my favorite courses, but it is starting to look like Tall timbers. I think they need to remind golfers to fix their divets on the greens. They also need some better fairway maintenance.
5 hours
Took more than 5hours.
Waiting every hole all the time while play.
No course marshal.
Nice!
Staff is excellent here. Good course and great value
A Sunny Day in October
Newlands is a wonderfully designed course, that offers a lot of variety in the manner that you approach the various holes. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The problem with our round in October, was that they had just punched the greens... and while I get that course maintenance is necessary, boy did this ever make them inconsistent and slow. The ball regularly would jump all over the place as it's rolling along the green. Also... for whatever reason, the pace was so slow, with no marshalling on the course to keep things moving. We picked up an extra player along the way and went around with 5 golfers, and were still waiting on every hole for the group of two, who by the 3rd or 4th hole joined another group of 2, for a foursome, that were in front of us. I don't know what (or if) was happening in front of the, but the round took 5 hours, when it usually takes 4... and this is with power carts all around.
For the price, it was worth it... just don't go mid day (when the sun is out) and expect to be done in 4 hours.
Quite The Challenge!
Although the greens had just been punched the golf course is pretty nice! Extremely challenging holes and since we have never played there made it more challenging. Pretty tight course so you have to be accuate. The signage was great especially if you didn't know where you were going. Course well maintained will very pleasant grounds keepers.
Golf now tee time
Played here 20 years ago ,condition much better then. To be fair it's been a dry summer .we got this tee time on golf now for 19$ great value at that price. Wouldn't take much to bring it back to good condition but does need some work
Excited & Disappointed
This course has great potential with some very scenic holes but i was disappointed that we had to play behind a group of juniors and their coach which resulted in us having to wait for long periods at far too many holes. There should be a policy review for these situations as I'm sure the majority of Newland's customers would be very annoyed with this situation. There was lots of debris from a recent (week ago) wind storm that could have been cleaned up better. Poor signage on a few holes created confusion In finding the next hole.
Great greens and fairways
The greens were very well maintained and some are challenging, the fairways were not in the greatest shape because of the drought but very wide which makes for lower score
Nice layout. Challenging par 5s
This is not a put down on the course but on the golfers. So many courses I have played this year have so many unrepaired ball marks on the greens. Courses need to re-address this issue with the golfers using their facilities.
First Round at Newlands
This is my first round playing the course and I was both impressed and put off. I've worked as a maintenance crew member on high profile courses for a few years, so my opinion of courses is largely based on the grounds conditioning itself, which Newlands played fantastically and was surprisingly green despite the heat we've had lately. Fantastic course in that sense. I was put off by the crampedness of the course and how little the cart for food /beverage went around. I constantly felt like my shots were going to hit people on the next hole over because everything was spaced very close together. For most of the round I was waiting for the cart girl to come by so I could get some Gatorade and beer, but she didn't come by and when we were driving to 10 she was closing up her snackbar stand. I would definitely play the course again, but some small things could be improved.
Bringing guests
Grat course to bring friends. Friendly and not too hard
for occasional golfers. Great value and good conditioned greens and fairways and 1/2 priced appys
after the round with huge portions. Only complaint
would be the type sand in the traps is difficult to get
out of
Great course for the value
Best bang for your buck. Golf now is the place to book, we paid $22 each plus $5 for the power cart. What a deal!!
Very Good Value
have played many times and this is the first time the pace was very slow. Almost a 5 hour round.
Greens were in good shape. Few dry patches in the fairway so we roll the ball to grass on the dry patches in the fairway.
Is a tough walk on a hot day.
great course
Absolutely I want to recommend this golf coutse
because it is a resonable green fee considering course condition
challanging course
although an older course it was very challenging for myself. Excellent staff and facilities for the nineteenth hole.
Completely different course from that of winter season
In winter season the course was so wet that some holes including #17 forced us wading through mud. However on Apr 17, which was my first golf this year, I could play on a wholly course: normal well-kept greens and fairways, short trimmed sides of fairways, well grown trees which make course playing more challenging. Paired up co-players were nice players as well. I will play again.
Thanks for your feedback and review. Sorry to hear the course was not quite ready for you when you played. We hope you give us another shot this summer!
