Guildford Golf and Country Club
About
Guildford Golf & Country Club has long been known as one of the finest courses British Columbia has to offer. The golf course is located in Surrey, just across the U.S. border from Washington and less than 40 minutes from Vancouver. The scenic layout has fairways lined with mature trees and the greens are large and undulating. There are also creeks that weave across the golf course and numerous lakes that come into play. The layout has a classic design that still provides a challenge for all skill levels. Golfers are put to the test right away on the first two holes, a par 4 and a par 3 respectively, which require good course management and thoughtful decision making. Guilford's standout hole though, is the signature 16th. This tough par 3 is modeled after the notorious 12th hole at Augusta National, complete with a stone bridge and water hazard that encircles almost the entire green.

Followed a Jr Tournament, expected delays
We didn't know there was a junior golfer's tourney underway so it was a bit slower than normal. They really worked on keeping pace nonetheless and by the turn we were in fine shape. The greens were good, pretty fast and considering it's April, it was a nice Saturday afternoon. We managed to get all 18 in before darkness took over... Not unhappy, totally understand the junior program and they were well organized...
Good Spring Conditions - Mediocre Layout
I got a $15 tee-time thanks to "Hot Rates". I tried Guildford several years ago and remember it being very crowded and play was slow, but I played on a chilly weekday so I essentially had the place to myself this time around. Conditioning was generally very good. Greens were big, speedy, undulating and putted true. They were a little on the firm side, but held a well struck iron shot nicely. Fairways were thick and lush but soggy in spots. I had a few of my drives plug in the fairway/rough (including a "lost ball" on #15 after hitting it right down the pipe) but that is par for the course for this time of year in Vancouver. Bunkers were ok. The layout itself is average at best - some strange holes, blind tee shots and powerlines running through the course, but for $15 I can't complain. It is an inner-city course after all, and looks and plays as such. #16 is a fantastic par 3, and #18 is a nice finishing hole. I hit my driver poorly on the front 9 and struggled. I hit it better on the back and scored well as a result. The course can be very penalizing if you aren't getting it in play off the tee (plays tougher than its 70 rating and 117 slope). If you can get a really good deal on GolfNow, I would recommend this course for the shape of the greens alone, even if the design leaves a lot to be desired.
The worst course in the lower mainland
It's spring. There is no excuse for 6 temp greens and a 6 hour round. Marshall did absolutely nothing. Place is a complete dump and you couldn't pay me to play here again. AVOID
Horrible winter golf
Too many alternate greens and tee boxes. Won't go back in winter for sure. I paid $20 for a round with hot deal but I still felt not worth it.
Cold but beautiful
Some temporary greens but pace of play was fine. Some frozen greens but playing in January? I do it again
Bowl of Soup
You play a course like this, you need a free bowl of soup.
excellent
This course is very excellent compared to he rate
I want to recommend this course to my friend
Thanks for the booking
Not bad
Course is in decent shape considering the lack of rain we have had this year.We paid $40 each including a cart for 18, which i feel is a fair price for this course...had fun.
Good Deal
This course reminded me of your typical inner city golf course, it wasn't super challenging but was a good deal for the money. The course was in fairly decent shape considering how dry the area has been this summer.
Great Day!
I am basing this review on the Golfnow.com price.
$40 including cart….
The course was in good shape considering the lack of rain in the past 6 week. There are some brown spots and tight lies but I would say every course in the area is in the same boat. The greens were in good shape a little furry for my liking but there is nothing wrong with them.
I got talked into playing the black tees and actually had a great round, its not that much more distance overall. Especially with the fairways running out the way they are. I was surprised that I actually hit 2 par 5s in 2. Probably helped they were my best shots of the day.
All in all its a pretty good course especially for the Golfnow price. Full price and not playing well might be a little different story. Keep it in play and you can score here.
The only real maintenance I would say that it would be nice if the traps were in better shape. Oh and just off the 7th tee there is a grass covered hole about 10in wide and a foot deep that I stepped in and fell. Cut my knee but had I twisted my ankle or worse this review could have gone in a very bad direction.
Maybe some dirt or a large rock covering the hole would be great before somebody hurts themselves.
Enjoy the course…..
Good local course, good condition
The course was in good condition considering the hot dry summer. Greens very receptive. Disappointed that many golfers were not respectful of the course, divots and ballmarks were not repaired. I fixed 2-3 on every green. One green I repaired 7 ballmarks.
There are some hydro wires that come into play on a couple holes, local rule hit again.
Looks flat but a pretty tough walk for many.
Played very slow day and time I played.
Not the best
It was one of the hottest days of the year and they didn't have a food/beverage cart on the course the layout of the course doesn't bring you back to the clubhouse till the 14th hole. An obvious flaw in design.
None of the tee boxes were level and every green was a different speed and were full of un fixed divots.
The fairways were so dry it was like hitting off hard packed dirt. Pretty sure I ruined a couple of my irons.
Overall, very disappointing... I will not be returning.
next time
The greens were a little slow but in great shape. It was fairly quick round as well (for the weekend). Fairways a little dry (good) , a little burnt(bad). All in all pretty good report
lovely course
Like course, good deal, good condition and maintenance.
lovely course
This is a very like course, good condition and maintenance, friendly guys.
Fair
Not great but if your in a jam and need to play then try it out. Lots of other options in the area. Found that course was not maintained that well, divots, folks not dealing with tee boxes well and pace of play can be bad.
Greens are very slow.
All greens are very slow.
So many slow players. It took 5h and 35min yesterday.
Waiting every single hole for 5-10min.
FIRST TIME @ GUILFORD
The course was in good shape, the greens were holding well, except I felt the greens were a little slow, bunkers could use more sand.
Apart from that, I would come back and play it again.
Average course
Average course worth a play if you can get a decent price on Golf Now. An easily walked course --- especially recommended when management wants $32 for a cart rental.
The course has many challenges
With the lack of rain over the past three months long hole fairways are rock hard. On some tee boxes it is difficult to get the tee in the ground and they generally break in half after the tee shot. The course management needs to water the fairways to soften up the ground. Water comes in to play on 14 holes.
Ponds can be avoided with the exception of the short 16th, but the creek has to crossed on 7 of the holes, which is okay for long hitters but can be a problem for senior golfers which may involve lay-ups. Greens are relatively large and rolling.
