Great time
As always a great time at Sherwood. Course was in great shape considering all the rain and bad weather we had been having lately. Greens were true and it seemed as though they had cleared out some of the bushes for those few balls that went into the woods. The more I play there the more I enjoy it.
Great day on course
First round of the year and it was perfect. 18 degrees with a slight wind. Course is in excellent shape with a few wet spots which was expected after the weekend of rain we had. as always we enjoyed ourselves but what would have made the day is a sitting down to some food which is not available. you need to get food inside and a beer/sandwhich cart on the course.
Needs work. Poorly marked!
Well let's see, this is the second time playing this course. The guy at the counter has the personalty of a US border patrol guard. I don't think he likes people that book through GolfNow? I met the course superintendent who was a super nice guy and very friendly. The course itself was in great shape considering that it was very early in the season (May 4). They switched the order of play (last year I think) so you tee off on hole 10, many of the holes are poorly marked so you don't know which way to go to get to the next hole. Worse yet is that apparently they have started renumbering the holes but haven't done them all yet??!! After playing the par 3 #5 (which remember is now in the back nine) you end up going to the next hole looking for #6 (and like most of the hole is a long way from last green to next tee) but this is where they have started renumbering the holes and you end up at #15, then #16, 17, & 18. Once you've played it then not a huge problem but the first time is very confusing! Also realize like I mentioned earlier this is not a curse you would ever want to walk!!
This course is petty far in the woods and this time of year the deer flies will drive you crazy!
On the good side there are some interesting holes, lots of elevation changes, nice electric carts with coolers and ball washers/club washers attached.
Anyway for the GolfNow price not too bad but wouldn't pay their full price, go to Chester Golf & Country Club instead.
This course is exceptional
Most fairways are narrow, so if you don't hit a fairly straight ball, there are lots of woods and ponds to greet you. The course is one of my favourites because of the lay-out, some holes are like a LInks course, the course is challenging to all golfers with, or without, a handicap.
Burnt out
It seems this course has been neglected over the past few years. It is quite run down.
Nice course.
Considering the dry weather we have had the course is in good condition . Greens are very well maintained.
Tucked away in the middle of Hwy 14
somewhat challenging course.....greens were not in terrible shape but some could use a bit of work.....very hilly moguls type course.....not many true lies...some areas of the fairways could use some TLC...Over all well worth the trip...satisfied with the course...LONG 18th hole
Terrible Greens
Terrible Greens. Slow rate of play. No Marshall, there was a group of 6 that let us pass through - then ran into a group of 8. Who allows these massive groups? I could handle the slow play if it was a pristine course, but I'd rather putt on a parking lot vs the greens at this course.
Beautiful Course not far from the city of Halifax
At first glance Sherwood seems to be a bit of a trek to make from the city but in reality it is not that much further then the other championship courses in the HRM. Beautiful course that is well maintained with narrow greens. Defiantly a course that will keep you coming back. Pace of play was excellent, and the staff were very friendly.
ouch
enjoyed our golfing ,until the bugs came out then we just hit and run, skipped the last hole (18) as there was a slow foursome ahead and the mosquitos were out in full force.
ouch
playing was .good but please tame your horse flies @ mosquitoes
Nice course
Beautiful course that I walked right on and finished in 2.5 hrs... Empty on a Tuesday afternoon. This course really deserves much more business.
The only real complaint I'd have if you forced one out of me... The greens were impossibly slow.
Very nice courwe
Course was in great shape for an early fall round. Tough holes.
Not what was expected
No course layout documentation and no distance measuring equals an extremely difficult round. If they intend on not having GPS then they should publish a booklet with some distance info. As for the course itself, simply average in condition and quite hilly. Greens are still showing winter kill in August. Too out of the way and not of a high enough quality to warrant another visit. A wedding on hole number 8 that NO ONE TOLD US ABOUT, added to the complexity of the game. Do we wedge over the wedding party or take a two stroke penalty and move on?
Nice picturesque layout
Pretty nice. The lack of GPS on the carts makes for a trickier round. There are a lot of blind shots, lots of hills which makes for a lot of uneven lies. Fairways and cuts are in good shape and rough is just that, rough; pretty thick and deep so stay on the fairways or within the first cut. The greens are in pretty rough shape compared to other courses but, playable for sure. Tee boxes are pretty good for the most part but can be a little bumpy and some are not fully flat which makes it hard to find a good solid flat area to tee up from. Overall this course is pretty good.
