25 hidden golf gems in Canada - Golfers' Choice 2024

Taboo Golf Club - hole 7
Rock outcroppings intimidate on the par-3 seventh hole at Taboo Golf Club in Gravenhurst, Ontario.

What are the top public golf courses and hidden gems in Canada?

It depends who you ask. In the case of GolfPass' annual Golfers Choice ranking lists, you are the expert, along with thousands of your fellow golfers.

We compile our annual Golfers' Choice lists by analyzing the ratings and reviews submitted by members of our community - golfers like you - throughout the previous year. We use GolfPass' Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's subcategory averages. Courses must offer public access and have received at least two reviews in 2023 to be eligible for this year's list. If you want to play any of these courses, hover your browser over the course photo and if tee times are available, you can click to book directly.

  1. Sherwood Golf & Country Club

    Green fee: $60-$70
What they're saying: "This place has surprised us very much. Hilly like some of the courses at home in Switzerland. The fairways (are) narrow, (with) many obstacles. The greens (are) in good condition if a bit slow. Very friendly staff. We were even escorted to tee #1. Thank you. We will be back even though we live a bit further away (Shelburne)." - u797336296

You have to be kidding me. Where's Cabot Cliffs, Cabot Links and a plethora of other courses that are better than all 25 above? As a born and raised Canadian, I suppose it's not a surprise that as an American golf writer you are significantly out of sync with what are the top flight courses in our country as I would perhaps be about those in the US.

Always good to get support for courses in Canada, but it would be really useful if the city or province was noted for these courses, as Canada is a rather large country. It's kind of like listing the best world wide courses and not bothering to mention in which country they are situated. Also a little curious how the rankings were compiled, especially for courses that have no comments whatsoever. Thanks for listing a few of Canada's great golf courses.
