Tarandowah Golfers Club
About
Tarandowah Golfers Club has a unique layout that closely resembles traditional Scottish links golf courses. There are undulating greens and sloped fairways that are made up of bentgrass and wispy fescue. Although there are no water hazards, Tarandowah Golfers Club boasts more than 100 deep, sod-faced bunkers that prove to be just as challenging if not more. Strong winds blow through the golf course, a factor that will affect your game if not careful. Tarandowah Golfers Club has several tricky uphill par 4s, but its longest and one of its more challenging holes is the par-5 14th, which stretches to 588 yards.

Needs TLC
Disappointed with course conditions. I’ve always enjoyed the layout and design in the past. Greens were in very good condition, however tee boxes were atrocious, cart paths dangerous, power carts need to be cleaned up and or replaced. No one has (Staff) seemed to have raked a bunker in weeks nor emptied their trash receptacles in days with beer cans and sorted garbage strewn on the ground in numerous places. Hard to believe this course is ranked #114 in Canada - not in my books. Not sure I will return.
Fantastic Natural Layout!
A beautiful Links styled course that was very enjoyable while also being a true test. If you like flat greens and level lies in the fairway then this might not be for you. Very entertaining round and definitely worth the drive to check out this gem.
Need More Carts
Hot Day. No extra power carts. Was advised to call pro shop to get a cart for the back nine as #9 does not come back to the club house. Called at least 9 times...no answer.
Felt like I was in Scotland!
The links course, the wind and over cast day really made it feel like I was in Scotland. Very interesting and fun course to play. As a first timer, some holes were difficult to judge as there are blind shots and some disguised obstacles. The Starter warned us that everything angles to trouble so you need to be straight. Fortunately, I was hitting the ball well that day. I did find 2 fairway pot bunkers and took 2 shots to get out of each - very difficult with hard packed sand! Really enjoyed the experience and challenge. I would love to return & try it again sometime. I drove 2 hours to play the course and was happy with my day.
Played the tips
Really challenging from the back tees (7100 yards, par 70) Fun course to maneuver your way around, ground was pretty hard but greens rolled really well. You’ll lose a lot of balls if you are wild off the tee. The surrounding fescue can often be played out of, bunkers could be in better shape (especially with how many there are). Ignore how the course looks on their Instagram page, way nicer & solid rolling hills in reality. Would definitely recommend to more experienced golfers (not for beginners).
Ughhhhhh :(
Dowah is one of our favourite courses to hit up, countless rounds of pure golf. Unfortunately, try not to play there when there are no adults on the course running the shop or checking pace. Two kids running the shop, no one checking pace of play, or the two six-somes playing behind us, hitting up on us while still on the greens, claiming “we play golf, we know it’s not going to hit you”. It was a par 3. Arguing ensues and whole round (which was already ruined due to us paying for carts, then being told they would drive them out to us when they came in. On hole 4 I trotted back to find them giving the carts to the groups playing behind us. They then kicked a group off of one cart that was about to tee off and drove carts out to us) was ruined.
Our cart was hit 3 times total in one round, couple were accidents from the kids, but all were hit without us knowing it was coming. No fours, just balls smacking our carts.
Asked to speak to a manager, kids said sorry there is no one and to call tomorrow. They didn’t know what to say or how to handle it, which is fair, they’re just kids. But place needs to be staffed with adults that can keep the establishment running smooth. One of the best courses in Ontario. I stand by that. Just a terrible horrible day and experience. Especially for two first comers.
Pleasant course ..links-style of course ....Noticed too many players looking for golf balls ..good pace though....Greens were fast .undulating....Tee boxes need top dressing and seed ....very good staff service..Pro shop ...starter
thank you
Great Challenging Track
Drove from Brantford to play and was rained out on the 11th so didn't get to experience the entire back but course was in great shape from what we played. Challenging course with narrow fairways but fescues is kept low and balls can found and hit. Pace of play was pretty slow and we teed off at 740 so no good reason for that. Will definitely be back.
An afternoon on the links
After being holed up all winter and now with isolation and self-distancing, it was such a breath of fresh air to get out and swing the sticks at one of my favourite places to just get away. Once you step on the course, it's like you've left the rest of the world for a while.
It was enough to make me cry seeing the ball sail through the blue skies and around the challenging links style course that looks like it was transplanted from the UK.
A good westerly breeze kept you on your toes and added a little more bite to the course.
If you're looking for a break and want to get away, go and give Tarandowah a try.
It took 4 hours of my afternoon (1.5 of which was driving)...pace of play is excellent and I cherished my time out there to rejuvenate the heart, spirit and mind.
Thanks Andy and the staff of Tarandowah.
Your course is always a treasure to test one's mettle on.
An afternoon at the links
What a beautiful day to be out on the course. First round of the year and free from the house and isolation. It was enough to make one want to cry how something so beautiful as that round on the links at Tarandowah blessed the soul, heart and mind amid the chaos of the world. It was like a private retreat or therapeutic distancing if there is such a term.
The course was in wonderful shape and the staff in the pro shop were super. Thanks Andy.
It took 4 hours of my afternoon (1.5 hours driving and 2.5 hours of golfing 18) and it's 4 hours I'll cherish and not want back. Thanks for sharing your Irish gem.
Fair
No ball cleaners; some holes ugly - can't see fairways, bunkers (deep) all over the place - too hard for amateurs
Best value and fun
It is the best place to be in any condition of the season except windy day.
After this you know you need more practice in sand......
I recommend this course to any of my friends or anyone.
You don't have to go to Scotland to play fancy course..... It's here waiting for ya.
Mk.
Great track
This is not a ez golf course. This is not a perfectly kept golf course, but it is must to play. It is a little out of the way but worth the drive . Very good value. #11 is a brute and is is the tee shot on #17. Recommended.
Nice links style course.
Enjoyed the course and the real links style. Felt like I was in Scotland
Fantastic test of golf
Over the years, I have had many opportunities to test my game at Tarandowah.
Baring none, Tarandowah is the best test of your game in the London area. The course is very fair, however, you must be on your best behaviour to conquer this course. It isn't terribly long. The most important part of this course is managing where your misses are.
My only qualm about the course is the state of the bunkers. Some of them have TONS of sand. Others, the tarp is right below a small layer of sand and mixed with a mud/sand slurry.
Otherwise, the course is always in amazing shape. The group of volunteers there have to fill divots and repair ball marks are fantastic. You can tell they really care for the course.
There is every shot under the sun at Tarandowah. You must be proficient around the greens to score.
Wonderful test. Great course. Nice people at the desk.
