Tarandowah Golfers Club
About
Tarandowah Golfers Club has a unique layout that closely resembles traditional Scottish links golf courses. There are undulating greens and sloped fairways that are made up of bentgrass and wispy fescue. Although there are no water hazards, Tarandowah Golfers Club boasts more than 100 deep, sod-faced bunkers that prove to be just as challenging if not more. Strong winds blow through the golf course, a factor that will affect your game if not careful. Tarandowah Golfers Club has several tricky uphill par 4s, but its longest and one of its more challenging holes is the par-5 14th, which stretches to 588 yards.

Treat Yourself, You Deserve It!
Love this course! The +hour drive is worth it for me and friends. 5 tee boxes, so as challenging as you can handle. I play several different courses in southwest Ontario and this is just different than the rest; feels like a course from Scotland, I imagine.. Course is in great shape; greens are tricky and are hard to master. Wind adds so much to the day, Again, love this course.
Course is very good
Tarandowah is a great place to play and the pro shop guy is very friendly. There is a good mix of nice holes and then some real challenging ones that makes for a great round with lots of different opportunities.
My one beef would be the sand traps particularly on the front side as they lacked sand, since trap play is a bug a boo for recreational golfer without sand it becomes a real challenge.
Bumpy cartpaths
Cart parts need to be leveled or paved. They are very bumpy.
Had to try it
HAd heard a lot about this course and wanted to give it a shot.
It sure was different. I didn't find it particularly difficult I was in one bunker all day (after a perfect drive dead center that hit something and kicked dead right). The shots into the greens were bordering on unfair. I understand that you have to roll the ball on opposed to going at the pins, but it was impossible to even get it remotely close. I topped a 5 iron on one of the par threes and ended up roll to within 10 feet of the green.
The bunkers were terrible and in need of work, the fairways were ok, but nothing spectacular, some of the tee decks required two hands to get the tee in the ground and the greens were scuffed up.
I didn't find the greens tough to putt, they did roll true and were fast, but not crazy fast.I had zero three putts which is rare for me.
Overall I am glad I played it, but to none of the holes were particularly memorable they all looked the same.
I would recommend that you play it once to see if it's your style, for me it wasn't, I would rather play Otter Creek, but to each his own.
Ok..But
The staff were very friendly, range was great. Pace ot play way too slow. The group in front of us was a hole behind after 1 and never saw a marshal all day. Took 5 hours to play.
To me the course was very unmemorable the holes all seemed the same. Narrow fairway, Bunkers, fescue, repeat.
With a lot of front pin positions it was basically impossible to get anything close, the greens didn't hold and in many cases you couldn't roll it up, so hit it long hope for a two putt and move on.
Sand in the bunkers was horrible - although the only one I was in was on 18 after a perfect drive dead centre of the kicking directly right, into a bunker in which a had to just punch an eight iron to 100 yards. some will shrug and say that's links golf.
Fairways were in decent shape the greens were hard, full of ball marks, but did roll true.
I wanted to play it, I have played it and likely won't go back. But if you like this kind of course go for it,. I
Not for the faint of heart.
True link style, pot bunkers, impossible to read greens. Fairways as fast as most clubs greens. This is a real shot makers course (as I learned), course plays true to its distance and when the wind is howling good luck... Staff was indifferent, marshell was helpful and friendly... If you want to really challenge your idea of links golf on this side of the Atlantic, this is your place
Scottish links feel
super friendly staff accommodated my early arrival
course very attractive
back nine took too long 2:35 to play( on a week day) due to foursome ahead they could not keep up to a fivesome ahead of them of which 3 were walking.
never like to see 5 somes but this time they were not the issue
Glad I came Back
I played this course the year it opened and really didn't like it. It was still undergoing growing pains and wasn't in the best shape. I'm also not a big fan of Links-style courses. That being said, I was convinced to try it again by some friends that got a good deal there. Am I ever glad I went back. I would now probably consider this one of the best courses I have played. The course was in great shape, great layout and really friendly staff. Nice putting green, chipping area and driving range as well. I really have nothing bad to say about this course and am really glad I came back. It is challenging though, so bring your A game. It could be a long day Lol.
WOW!
Wow, what a test! My first experience with a "True" links course. So that's what a pot bunker looks like ( from the inside)! Really have to pay attention to detail like slope of fairways, green undulations, and exactly how far you carry each club. Really exposed some weaknesses in my game but I can hardly wait to go back now that I know the layout a bit. Great day!
Tough course but loved it.
great weather, very challenging, love the course play it al the time
Great Links Course
Challanging link style course with lots of deep pot style bunkers. Fast, but fair greens.
It would be nice if there was sand in the bunkers instead of dirt and the fairways weren't as hard as the 401. But I guess that is what the mean when they call it a Scotish style links course.
Nice Course
Nice links style course. However, need more sand in the bunkers
Golfers. Club
14 bunkers pot on the 14 hole. Links . 7100 yards from the tips . must play .
2" of rain the night before!
The rating is low due to the conditions of play the day we went. It had rained heavily there the night before and the course was flooded in several spots, the traps were ponds and even some fairways had impromptu ponds. We were prepaid and unaware of the very wet conditions before arriving at the course. (as our area had far less rain) It was frustrating losing balls in traps and not being able to see them or luck out with raking. Even the fairways snatched 2 of our balls that we could not retrieve from the huge, deep ponds that were rain created. Overall, this course is generally one we look forward to playing, but, not this time. Wasn't the greatest fun we've had playing golf. I would still highly recommend this course, just don't go after a big rain, obviously.
you had better be good
A brilliant design, but not for hackers.
Par 3's are fair and fun. The par 5's are brilliant and fair. The par fours are brutal an unfair in my opinion. A 17 handicapper should not have to bust a perfect drive then still have a 5 wood to a green on a 4 par.
There are pot bunkers located on every par four that are RIGHT where you need to drive the ball. This then forces a layup on every (or almost) every par four, which means you are playing for bogie most of the time, and that's if you do everything else right.
You really do need to pay attention to which tees you play. As an 18 I played the whites (recommended 11-17) and found it too hard to enjoy completely. My bad? How often do you have to even think of things like that?
Non-golf stuff: no halfway house, no drinks cart, no marshal, limited ball washers, limited garbage cans. Great practice area and some really neat shot opportunities.
Fun links golf
Windy.rainy a bit.fast undulating greens. What a great place to golf.
Always enjoy playing this course
A departure from a typical "lakeland" course... links-style so always a fun challenge.
Back Again
Back again after being rained out last time.
Again great reception in the pro-shop, There was a 15 minute delay due to fog earlier in the morning but we were advised and no issues. The course is challenging for all levels . The one issue I found was that they were working on the bunkers on a few holes . However I still gave it an excellent because they recognize the problem and are fixing it.
As for the course the first couple of holes are easy if you play them right example on the first think 3 wood or long iron to set up short iron into the green.
To score well you MUST stay out of the fescue.
There was a cart girl that came by often and at the turn there is a stand that has hot dogs, sausages, sandwiches and fresh fruit .
The green are VERY undulating so be careful.
For the short hitter (less than 175 yrds) there are a couple of forced carries.
Great but challenging course
Tough golf course, long and sloping holes from tee to greens. Open field made the winds affect our long tee shots and made use all of the clubs in the bag. Greens are in great condition and fast. Good thing the fescue grass is still short in early spring. Also most bunkers are under repair so the course gave our group some leeway. Overall it was a great experience playing Tarandowah although it's quite a drive from Toronto. They also have a great staff at clubhouse.
Love the contoured greens...pace of greens is great too. Guessing they are 11-12 on the stint .
Great links style course.
They've kept the fescue down the past few seasons, keeping the pace of rounds close to 4 instead of the 5 hours I recall it taking in the past....
Recommend this course for sure.
