Tarandowah Golfers Club
About
Tarandowah Golfers Club has a unique layout that closely resembles traditional Scottish links golf courses. There are undulating greens and sloped fairways that are made up of bentgrass and wispy fescue. Although there are no water hazards, Tarandowah Golfers Club boasts more than 100 deep, sod-faced bunkers that prove to be just as challenging if not more. Strong winds blow through the golf course, a factor that will affect your game if not careful. Tarandowah Golfers Club has several tricky uphill par 4s, but its longest and one of its more challenging holes is the par-5 14th, which stretches to 588 yards.

Fine links golf
Excellent links style golf. Fair but difficult golf course. Always in decent shape. Great value.
Tarandowah (hidden Jem)
I played this course 4 years ago and just love it. Our group plays it at least 2 times a year. The 1 hour drive to the course is not an issue because we know whats at the end of the road.. No fancy clubhouse , carts or any other bells and whistles. Level tee blocks , perfect greens with a lot of movement. Fescue cut back because of early spring time along with space leaves on the trees. we are all around indexes of 8-10 and find this a very challenging track . very tough when the wind is up. Cann,t wait to go back.. True links style..
Windy day at Tarandaowah
It was a very cool and windy day with a sustained breeze of 20-30 kms and gusts above that. We have played here many times and expected these conditions to offer some stiff challenges and the course certainly delivered. The course was in great shape from the tees to greens. This was without a doubt the toughest conditions I have played this course in. We had a great time and the staff at the pro shop and snack counter were very friendly and attentive.
Great Round of Golf
Course played tough with some blind shots off the tee. Greens in excellent shape. This course has many bunkers and traps. Not for the faint at heart.
I love a challenge
This is one of my favourite courses! It is a links course, challenging, well laid out, flush toilets on the greens!!! Rate of play was fast, staff friendly, (had an egg salad sandwich there and it was not great) but if that is my only criticism, obviously I had a good time. Have recommended this course to many people.
fun links course
this is a links course that was a lot of fun to play. It provided enough of a challenge to hold your interest, and playing out of the long rough really tested your shot making abilities. As you would expect with a links course, there were big pot bunkers on most holes, but the sand in most of them was too hard to provide a realistic opportunity to test your sand game. In fact, a lot of the bunkers were marked "ground under repair". There were very few clubhouse amenities, but the course itself provided great value for the price.
Nice course, but difficult
The course was in very good shape, and the weather was nice (20deg, sunny) but windy. The roughs are deep, and you can easily lose balls in there. The greens were very fast, and somewhat difficult to read, but they were in very good shape. You need to hit the ball far, and straight to have a good golf round.
Real Golf the way you imagine links golf should be
I had gout so bad that by the second hole I couldnt use my right hand...you would think that would be off putting...but this is one of the best golf experiences I have had to date.better overall more pure than pinehurst #2.from the get go BEST SERVICE EVER..The pro formerly introduced me too the gentleman he was pairing me up with...the course was exceptional(cant wait to play it with 2 hands)..the amenities were geniune well thought out and provided just the right balance to the overall experience..I am still blown away by the experience from start to finish..It is so seldom that you have a perfect experience that leaves no room for ctiticism..Thank you Tarandowah
Tough but enjoyable
Classic links style course. Good range of yardages from the tees. Course was in good shape but some bunkers were under repair likely due to recent heavy rains. Pro shop staff are friendly, greens are well kept, and pace of play was good. Overall great course and worth a visit.
Priced as a Premium Course, but...
I love this course, its always a good challenge. I found the fescue to be thinner that in years past today. Had a strong wind adding to the challenge. Fairways are dry and fast and the greens are great considering this drought summer.
BUT, for a course charging $61 walking rate which is in the upper range of rates in this area I find it very poor that the course is not maintaining their bunkers. I found over the last couple years to find a couple marked as GIR however today there was an abundance of it.
Makes you wonder if the course is struggling if they cant keep bunkers in shape when that is one of main features of the course.
Classic Links Style
Course played great! The conditions of the fairways and green played favourable because of the amount of recent rain. I have played here on a dry run and the ball just fly's. Some hole's really challenge your strategy and trust in your ball placement because of the greens are surrounded by bunkers.
Only knock on the course like many public courses is the sand traps are poor. Other then that the course plays amazing and is sure to challenge you.
A good tribute to Links golf
Had a great round with a friend. Pace of play was good, the greens were in great shape as were most of the fairways. As stated in numerous other reviews, the bunkers were awful, which leads me to think that ownership or management is starting to care less about this great course.. I will try it again in the near future
Stay out of bunkers
This rough at this course is now a little easier than last time I played it. You can find your ball making the game more enjoyable.
Links course
Moderately long to very long, depending on your handicap. Need to hit it straight or the fescu comes into play, plus lots of bunker come into play off the tee or on approach shots. Bunkers were well maintained and playable.
Would recommend the course to anyone.
DON'T GO UNLESS YOU HAVE 6 HOURS
The course is great for beginners and has some challenging spots. Not overly memorable holes, definitely no signature hole. Plays well enough as a country course but man oh man does it take forever to get through this course. Every time there are groups spending way too much time looking for lost balls, play gets bunched up, players too stubborn to allow faster groups through.
Could be a lot better if this could be addressed. Gave up after the first 9 my last time here as it took 3 hours to get through.
Great Value. Not up to the hype.
A foursome of us made the 1 1/2 hr trek from Toronto to play this course because it seemed to be on all these lists and garnered a lot of favorable reviews.
We had 2/1 coupons so we got on for less than $40 apiece, walking, with a small warm up bucket.
We enjoyed the course, found it challenging in spots but to a man we thought it was unmemorable. Not one hole stood out to us. The conditions were pretty dry, we broke several tees trying to put them in the ground. The greens were very fast but pretty bumpy.
The round was also over 5 hours because so many people ahead of us were spending way too long looking for their balls in the fescue.
Overall nobody was complaining because of what the round cost, but none of us would go out of our way to play it again.
Great layout, nice staff
The tee boxes are so hard it takes multiple tries to even put your tee in. Sometimes even breaking your tee trying to put it in the ground. Bunkers are unplayable which is a big negative. Other than that, great layout and fun to play. Could be a lot better though
Treat Yourself, You Deserve It!
Love this course! The +hour drive is worth it for me and friends. 5 tee boxes, so as challenging as you can handle. I play several different courses in southwest Ontario and this is just different than the rest; feels like a course from Scotland, I imagine.. Course is in great shape; greens are tricky and are hard to master. Wind adds so much to the day, Again, love this course.
