Grass clippings
First cut of rough was covered in grass clipping making it difficult to find a ball that just rolled through the fairway. It hasn't rained in days so not sure why cutting would be so much and cuttings wouldn't be mulched. The rest of the experience was great.
A comfortable course
A course that is not too challenging and quite enjoyable .
One of my favorites in the area.
Great course. I am so glad they don’t cram the tee times and the pace of play was exactly 4 hours. Not like 6 hours on some of the other courses in the area.
A bit disappointing
I’ve always liked the New Course at Hidden Lake, and still do. Two issues made today’s round less enjoyable.
The cart: Clublink…invest in new carts! I honestly thought I was going to put my back out on the cart. Noisy, no shock absorption. Just awful. And they’re all like that.
Grass clippings: I know staffing is a challenge, but rough, fairways and greens covered in clippings. Awful.
Price has gone up exponentially here vs 2019 or 2020 and I won’t be back until something gives.
Conditions
Played many times. First this year. Maybe due to weather but nobody removed clipping on greens. Same in rough . Clearly minimal staff. Clearly traps only raked at flat area. Weeds a foot long in sand of traps. Never been edged. Way over priced 97 with cart and taxes!!! Clublink should be ashamed. Try using all the different starters to due truff. Why do you need 3 different staff. Always been that way.? Should be less interactions due to covid not more..
great round at hidden lake 15Aug2021
didn't break 100 (101 at the end) - which was too bad as I parred the first two holes and basically double bogeyed the rest of the round. Weather was perfect - starter had us tee off on time and sandwiched between two groups that mostly flowed - slight delays but nothing unexpected. Nice threesome I was paired with and really a pleasant round - sunny and 23C !! Always love going to Hidden Lake - old course or new course - both are great and the clubhouse and patio layout really makes it look like a nice Clublink property. I also appreciate the covid protocols at the entrance - you don't always get this at all courses and it's nice for peace of mind.
Almost Good
16th hole we had a visit by the Marshall. We were a group of 4 walking. Pressured by a group of 3 right from the start. But they never dropped a ball very close to us to be fair. They were good players but apparently not very patient with us. Tee’d off at 9:50 and at 2:30 we were on the 16th green hole being told we needed to get going play faster or else. Then the Marshall stayed right beside us. I told him at 200 dollars a round I was not about to pick up my ball. I asked him to leave but more mumbling from him which I didn’t actually hear.
Anyway it spoiled our round by the confrontation that could easily have been a conversation about folks when you get an opportunity to play ready golf when we could. Got to the 17th tee and that group were just leaving the green on a par three. The people make all the difference and I’m not sure Hidden Lakes get that with the style of Marshall’s. Everyone else was very courteous. My wife says she is not interested in coming back. Anyway you asked for my opinion and you got it.
Play today.
Great course and layout. Well maintained. There were only 2 issues. The bunkers require some proper drainage and new sand but more importantly, the carts are sub standard and they do not have GPS considering the cost of play with cart!
