Quality on the fringe
Always nice to get out and see a well groomed course with lots of challenges. Good times.
Always a pleasure to come back
I sometimes forget what a gem Chedoke Beddoe course really is....nestled into the Hamilton escarpment the views and layout are beautiful! I think I always struggle with the greens as they are somewhat slow therefore bumpy but I think in keeping with the original intent of Stanley Thompson. I think the best time to play this course is in June as it tends to harden up due to he clay soil. Definitely a must play if visiting the area!!
Average municipal course
The condition was unkept with lots of clover on the fairways. Trees were not pruned and had a severe overhang on the fairways, narrowing the target lines. The greens were in good shape and rolled well. Based on all the other courses conditions in the area, this one was not as good.
another great stanley thompson design
I have to admit this is a challenging course. there are a few holes with uneven lies and a few other blind shots into the greens. there is one cheesy severe dogleg uphill hole on the back nine that I didn't like. basically it was target golf at its finest. the course is rather straight forward and there is plenty of room for error and you don't have to worry about losing too many balls. The only thing missing from this course is a real driving range as it has a shag range just off to the right on the 10th green. Green speeds were fair and the pace of play was good.
the club house was is another story. it showed its age and it dated back to the 1920s
Jewel in the heart of Hamilton
First time playing this course and won't bey last time. If you haven't played yet, play it!
Good for a muni.
Played the course by myseif in a cart in less than 3 hours. Potential golfers were probably scared away by weather forecast of severe thunderstorms and a possible tornado. High winds made scoring difficult. 3 sets of tee boxes (I played from the tips at around 6100). Some fairways were filled with clover while others were in great shape. Found greens somewhat slow. Creek comes into play on 3 holes. Except for #8, the par 3s are challenging especially from the tips. Par 4 #7 is probably the best hole since it is 430 from the tips, requires a carry over the creek on the second and has a large two tiered green. Par there=a birdie.
Always a good day out on the course
Had a great time as per usual here. Always can count on a good round of golf. It's a go to destination every year for our group.
Worth a Play
Beddoe is a nice course and was in good condition tee to green. Lots of ups and downs - a cart is highly recommended. The course has a couple goofy dog legs - but overall a pretty good layout but can be a bit confusing finding the next tee box.
Beddoe Course Excellent Value.
Excellent conditions. Took 3.5 hours for our round. A must for any golfer.
Excellent weather and excellent course.
For spring the course was in pretty great condition. Had a blast would recommend for sure. Awesome course the bedoe side. Better condition than the martin side.
Good value on a hot deal but needs "real" ladies' tees
Enjoyed a quick-paced round on this city-owned course. Pro shop had me paired up but starter said my group had already gone when I had made it a point to be early. Waited around for a bit and decided to play on my own knowing I would catch up to a group before long. This occurred after 7 holes when I joined two amenable gentlemen.
The Beddoe Course is overly long for the average lady plus some tee areas are not level. Modern philosophy is "play it forward", so courses need to do more to encourage ladies to stay in the game. Par fours of 343, 353 and 364 yards are too long! Same with par threes of 190 and 176 yards.
This goes totally against Alice Dye's theory of course length for the average lady. Many current yardages are like making every guy play from the tips and I've seen the result of that! So get with the programme, Chedoke! Maybe with "roll", you can get away with these yardages but that doesn't happen much anymore.
not bad but slow
Slow pace on the weekend and no marshals. Watched the incredibly slow foursome ahead of us hitting 2 and even sometimes 3 mulligans in a row shot after shot. Otherwise the course was OK.
Scenic view in the hearth of the city.
Last minute booking, my wife never played the course, I haven't played there in years until 2 weeks ago.
Beddoe is much prettier track than the Martin. Cardiac hill is a hole that will always get your adrenaline going.
Pace was ok for a Sunday morning, 18 holes in about 4 hours and 15 minutes as a twosome, behind another twosome.
Food at the half way house was not the best, I did share it with wildlife though.
We saw deer and Cyote up near the escarpment.
Breathtaking views from many holes.
Will play it again definitely.
Waste
I make a point if playing here once a year in hopes of a turn around. The holes themselves are a great design and challenging. The tee blocks are as bad as it gets. Uneven and bare. The fairways are full if crab grass and clover and unkept. The greens are like the fairways. The snack bar restroom was disgusting with a leak in one of the urinals there was disgusting liquid all over the floor from the leak, the starter told me "it's been that way for a while and doesn't know why they don't fix it". The pro shop had a "body odour" type stench that you experience as soon as you walk in. The practice green continues to be a joke. The staff clearly do not enjoy being there although they were pleasant. Too bad the city is letting this course rot away.
Hilly & very scenic.
Course is in great condition. Very scenic with lots of wild life. Best value for money for Seniors
in Ontario.
Good and bad
Great price, challenging round, pace was good, but had to golf with brother in laws.
That was the only bad part. This course is a tough walk and be prepared for side hill lies.
Golf now saved me money and it was accepted at the club with no hassle. I'll use them again.
Lots of Hazard,no flat lies
I always enjoy playing here! Course is interesting and challenging. Extremely "hilly" for southern Ontario. Makes you adjust your stance constantly. May be a struggle for a novice. It pushes you to play your best.
Good value on an interesting layout
I'm a 16 handicap and managed to shoot a very respectable 83 on this course. Layout is diverse and allows you to use all clubs. There are some OB areas that are punishing but mostly quite forgiving. Water comes into play on several holes, mostly on the approach shots. Fairways are a bit choppy but greens overall were in good shape except for one very pock-marked green. Good quality sand in the traps. Pleasant, helpful staff.
Great shape. Not easy.
Nice escarpment course and views. Good shape for a municipal course. Some challenging holes.
Typical Stan Thompson course. Greens were moist and true - rained previous night.
Mediocre course, below average greens
Great day for golf, played 18 on Bedoe. Many of the greens were in a poor state, along with the tee boxes. Rather inconsistent speed on the greens though the fairways and other parts of the course were in good condition. Many hills and doglegs which added to the challenge, though we found navigating from hole to hole rather confusing. I have faith that a few more weeks of summer maintenance will do the course justice, so will be going back for another round. Make sure you show your golfnow booking email to the proshop, they tried to overcharge us at first.
