Northern Dunes Golf Club
About
Northern Dunes Golf Club is a 18-hole championship course that tumbles across the gently rolling landscape of Bruce Peninsula. The front nine lays across natural sand dunes and while the back nine's landscape required a bit more work, it manages to seamlessly blend with the surroundings. Steve Young, the course architect, incorporated the classic elements of a traditional Scottish links layout but he also wanted the course to have a thoroughly modern feel. The result is a challenging design featuring large greens and over 50 bunkers filled with natural sand strategically placed throughout. The prevailing northwest winds provide another tricky element. Northern Dunes G.C. is ideally situated less than 10 miles from Lake Huron and Sauble Beach and is accessible from all directions.

carts
like the course. great pace as not very busy. the golf carts are horrible. This is the second time I have made this comment.
carts are dirty, always. Todays cart had garbage in the cubical, covered with pine needles and wet. Set material on most of carts are torn. Not a good start to a round of golf
Tough to grow grass on sand !!!
Front nine was terrible. No Fairways, had to find a patch of weeds on the fairway to place the ball on. Crazy to think they would not say something. Just insane front nine. Back was fair, was 1,000 times better than front.
Would not be happy if I didn't get a hot deal and pay only $35..
Still needs rain
Played today at 0928
As stated in a review of August 2/18 this course is very very dry. Fairways are hard with little or no living green grass evident. Tee boxes and greens are in very good condition. As stated before the course needs 3 things to make it great.
1 refreshment cart
2 players assistant to speed along slow play.
3 new carts. Current ones are all in need of replacement and sent to a car crusher and sold as scrap, which most are currently.
I have played this course at least 30 times over the past 5 years. It is a 50 minute drive for me from Tobermory area but there is nothing else around for the price.
Today’s round $30.50 taxes in with cart thanks to golf now hot deals.
older guy
Front nine was dry, fairway grass was sparse, the back nine much better shape. Greens were in immaculate shape.
Carts need some work, seats need recovered, carts not washed, not set up for use, no score card, pencil etc, empty cans and bottles left in cart., overall general cart condition was poor
My review
Have played this many times over the last 5 years. Today’s round was slow due to 2 very slow golfers. Conditions today were very poor, as many other reviewers have stated, fairways are bare with very little green grass. Tee boxes and greens were in very good condition. The greens were soft and held the ball well.
I think this course needs 3 things to make it great
1. Refreshment cart out on a regular basis
2. Players Marshall to speed along slow golfers or duffers who look for lost balls for far too long.
3. New golf carts preferably electric. The current carts all need to be sent to a car crusher and reduced to scrap metal.
Dry like everything else
Greens were green and bit. Fairways burned off badly in a lot of the course. Nice layout though.
Parched!
Water needed! Looks the rain has been sparse here. The fairways are almost non existent as brown is the colour. However the tee decks and the greens are nice and green and play well. Hope some rain comes in to turn it green again .
Disaster
I have never played a course in such poor condition.
Carts are in disrepair, fairways are dead, tee blocks are terrible. When I say fairways are dead, I mean there are essentially no green spots!!! It’s like hitting off of asphalt.
Run down
Club house...carts...overall appearance is very shabby. Carts look like they have not been cleaned this season....
Not good
The course was dry but the greens were really good. Going through a dry spell with no rain.
I like the lay out. Great course just hoping for some rain.
Course was very dry and no grass left on fairways. The fairways were like concrete
Great day!
This a really great golf course that does what it can within it's power. This dry spell has forced then to only be able to water greens and tee boxes. Yes the fairways are completely dried out and lacking grass, however, it is still an enjoyable round of golf. I also do not blame them for somewhat slow greens as they do not want them to burn out. The young lads that work there are very nice and honest about what is going on with the course. Carts could be a little cleaner!
lovely greens but burnt fairways and tees
We always enjoy playing this course. The hot, humid weather has played havoc with it though and it desperately needs some watering.
This course is not worth the money
Thought I would hit the course with a friend while we camped at Sauble. This course was absolutely terrible. The conditions of the course was terrible. Our golf cart was a piece of junk, and it was nearly 30 degrees out and they didn’t even have a beverage cart going around the course. For 65 bucks, I couldn’t believe how junky this course was. Fairways could have been the rough, some bunkers didn’t even have rakes so you would end up in a divot, and the maintenance staff continued to fill in divots while I was teeing off. Absolutely brutal. Never will play again. Never will recommend.
Tough course
This is a good course to play back 9 I found to be better than the front. Greens were amazing. Fairways were dry and not to green. Overall a good place to play if in the area
Great staff and facilities. Course was challenging and in good shape. Thanks for the game
