Rockway Golf Club
About
Rockway Golf Course celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2010. This classic course, situated in the heart of Kitchener, has long been a favorite in the Waterloo region. When it opened back in 1935, it was the area's first public course. With its lush fairways lined with mature trees, it is almost impossible to guess that the golf course sits on the former site of a sewage treatment plant. The course has a traditional layout that is gentle enough for beginners but is still an inviting challenge for more advanced players. The front nine offers a gentle start but the course gets progressively more difficult on the back nine. Overall, though, the golf course has some challenging holes but nothing too intimidating. In addition to the course, Rockway also boasts one of the area's largest practice greens as well as a chipping area with a sand bunker.

Challenging mid-length course
Challenging mid-length course with some twists & turns. Layout of holes is great for match play. Hole # 12 is fun challenge.
There was a range of scores in our foursome on every hole.
Good match play course
Challenging mid-length course. Plenty of little twists & turns. Good par 3s.
Hole #12 is a wonderful match play hole.
Our foursome had a range of scores on every hole.
Clubhouse
Unfortunatley due to covid 19 the clubhouse was closed still. At most cpurses in Guelph they are open. Was hoping to enjoy more of the off course amenities especially the Moe Norman room. Still a good cpurse though.
Great Value for a round. Very forgiving
Paid $25 for walking twilight rate. Didnt realize they didnt allow carts for out after 3. Still a fair price in my opinion. This course isnt exceptionnally long, but when walking it can be a good workout as there is some distance between some of the holes. The rough was fairly burnt but thats not unexpected as theres been very little rain lately. All in all for the price it was a good value round

I am a member at Rocway, and I love this course. The value is incredible for both members and non members (25 bucks after 4pm. The course is pretty well maintained, the greens are in great condition. Proshop staff are super friendly, and it has some decent amenities are large practice putting green that is closed and chipping green that is closed (covid).
The one problem that Rocway has always had an issue with is pace of play. It gets very slow at times and the marshalls either don't want conflict or just are oblivious to it and do not encourage some groups to play a scramble. Which would help everyone.
Overall Rocway is a gem in the city and hopefully you will give it a whirl!
Good little course for the price
Rockway is a short track. Not super long. Not super difficult. Has its ups and downs. It's a city course but it's well maintained especially given the break from golf through COVID19. However, there's little in the way of ammeneties. No range. Small putting green. Food is meh. Price to play is average. Pace of play is average to slow if you get caught behind the wrong people.
All in all for 30 40 bucks it's hard to pass up. Fun to play once in a while. Worth it to go at least once for sure. Just don't expect the best thing you've ever seen. It's worth the price of entry though.
Rockway being called a "golf course" demeans the term. Course layout? Not good at all: there's a 10-15 minute commute across an intersection between 2 of the holes, which was poorly marked and not brought to our attention ahead of time. Course conditions? Even worse: the rough was severely unkept, and every green was covered with debris, making each putt a guess. The other golfers? The worst of the three: some players were wearing t-shirts, a group ahead of us was playing as an 8-some, and some players were seen driving their golf carts on top of the green. If you think you've got this course as a value pick, do yourself a favour and just move along.
Management problems
I Understand Covid-19 rules, I booked for 2 golfers, got to the course and they added 2 singles to our group. I mentioned that during Covid-19 they should not be pairing total strangers together, pro shop manager rudely said they had too, due to spacing out the tee times further apart, so to make their money they have no choice but to put 4 golfers on every hole wether you know each other or not. Very rude manager even the Marshall was surprised that we did not know each other. Typical management always about the money not the safety of people.
Fall golf
Very good condition, several Tees are chewed up and unlevel. Beautiful autumn colors. Very slow group ahead of us today.
My favourite course
I played Rockway over 20 times last season. It is, by far my favourite course to play. I have only played there once this season. Between 2018 & 2019, the price for a round increased by $20, making it one of the more expensive courses in the area. I have been playing at Conestoga this year for $45.20 including cart on Sunday mornings. Rockway is around $80. By booking later in the day and using Golf Now, I was able to book this one round for a price I could afford.
Enjoyable
My son and I played twilight with a member and his friend, they were friendly and patient with my novice play, the course was in great shape, the only negative was there was a group in front of us that was very slow and didn't, allow us to play thru, a Marshall on the course might have helped speed up the pace.
Great day of golf
Course was in great shape and pace of play was amazingly good. We had a wonderful round and were paired up with a walk-on player that made our round even more enjoyable. Looking forward to returning.
Good conditions for April.
The course had only been open 3 days so I was pleasantly surprised at the conditions. Greens had not fully grown in from fall aeration but rolled reasonably well. Ball washers were fully serviced and had new towels. A great early spring round.
