Royal Niagara Golf Club - Old Canal Course
About
The Old Canal Course is one of three nine-hole courses at the Royal Niagara Golf & Country Club. Situated between the scenic Niagara Escarpment and the Bruce Trail, the Old Canal Course is named after the historic 120-year-old Welland Canal that borders it. The challenging layout was designed to championship standards, employing several tricky elements including carefully sculpted fairways, rolling greens, and king-size bunkers. True to its name, the golf course features plenty of water throughout. There are several dramatically placed tees perched on the edges of the canal, providing stunning scenery that is unmatched in the Niagara region. All three courses at Royal Niagara Golf & Country Club were built to the same high standards, but each one offers a unique set of challenges.

great value
nicely kept coarse. greens were fast but not hard to hold if you hit the ball high. cost 32 bucks with cart so great value. people fix your ball marks as that took the most time . will play this coarse again.
Disappointed
It seems like this course gets worse by the year. When it opened it was a gem, but apparent cost cutting has taken its toll. Staff are marginally friend, rangers are like pepin Tom's watching you. Better value elsewhere in my opinion.
Tee box and Greens
Tee boxes badly beaten up and wet plus the greens looked like the Irish Riverdance group had just performed. Spent a great deal of time repairing green before every put.
thanks for taking the time to repair the greens!
beautiful course
Very challenging. Well groomed. Friendly staff. Overall great experience.
Thanks!
Stuck behind a scramble tournament
Played as a twosome and started15 minutes late as they let a single tee off just before us.
Caught up to a scramble tournament with six holes to play. Played two more holes and quit as play was ridiculously slow especially with the barefoot lady tending the pin while pounding back a beer.
Not Worth it!!
The course looks like it is in good shape until you are out there. Tee Boxes are in need of some care! Fairways are in ok shape with a few spots that need some looking after. Then there is the GREENS! These are in the worst shape I have ever seen on a course. People need to fix ball marks properly and the course needs to be on that! The greens are pocked all over so no matter where you are you put through old badly fixed divots! Not worth the $62 we paid to play. What a let down!!
Pace of play
Staff in pro shop - 2 out of 10
Maintenence staff , course etc ..is excellent 10 out of 10
Starters - 5 out of 10 - Friendly but do nothing to keep the pace of play moving ...many times have gone home after the 11th or 12th hole as its getting into a 6+ hour round...Weekends are particularly bad. Played course six times and its like that every single time! waiting 15 to 20 mins per hole usually from the 10th to the 18th hole just to tee off is frustrating to say the least.

Tough, Nice Course but needs maintenace
Course was nice, greens were challenging, fairways in decent condition with all the rain we've got. The course would have received 4 stars but the tee boxes are in rough shape on all par 3s and not a single playable bunker on the Iron Bridge or Escarpment nines. Looks like greens crews gave up on the bunkers.
Staff was nice and club house amenities are decent.
Could be a really good course with some extra attention to maintenance.
Thanks. With all the thunderstorms rolling through the golf course the bunkers have been extremely challenging to fix. One moment all fixed the next they are washed away with a thunderstorm. No excuses just very challenged.
Great course , requires some challenging placed shots .
Would definately recommend course for must play .
Thanks!
Great Staff!
I did really enjoy the service this Golf Club provided. It is an overall good course to play at. The maintenance of the course could be improved (like the overwhelming geese poos on mainy of their fairways). During our 18 hole round the snack cart only went by once; which was during our very first hole, we would of liked it if it went by again when we would actually want things. The portable toilets were completely disgusting and the one I tried, ran out of hand sanitizer. I may do this course again if I were back in the area, but I will bring more snacks for myself next time around.
Thanks!
