Royal Niagara Golf Club - Old Canal Course
About
The Old Canal Course is one of three nine-hole courses at the Royal Niagara Golf & Country Club. Situated between the scenic Niagara Escarpment and the Bruce Trail, the Old Canal Course is named after the historic 120-year-old Welland Canal that borders it. The challenging layout was designed to championship standards, employing several tricky elements including carefully sculpted fairways, rolling greens, and king-size bunkers. True to its name, the golf course features plenty of water throughout. There are several dramatically placed tees perched on the edges of the canal, providing stunning scenery that is unmatched in the Niagara region. All three courses at Royal Niagara Golf & Country Club were built to the same high standards, but each one offers a unique set of challenges.

Well maintained course
Royal Niagara offers a mix of challenging hazards and well maintained fairways and greens. It rained earlier in the day and there were some wetspots in low areas of the course. The pace was decent although that may have been influenced by the volume at the course and the rainy weather that day. I would definately go back and recommend this course.
ROYAL NIAGARA
IT WAS AVERAGE MAINTAINED GREENS WHERE NOT
CUT VERY SLOW VERY WET IN THE FAIRWAYS
Over-priced for the conditions
Over-watered course in middle of drought; Drives plugging in fairways ! 90 degree rule for carts? Because of over-watering, greens uncut & tee decks overgrown & weedy and in need of leveling/widening. Electric cart died 4 holes into rnd. 2nd time this happened in 4 rnds. played there. Never again.
Not worth it
I booked a very cheap tee time for late Saturday afternoon. Pace of play was slow even for a weekend. The tee boxes were in horrible shape with weeds growing out. The areas around the pins were very bumpy, and it looked like they haven't been moved all week. There are so many better options in the Niagara region so I would not bother with Royal Niagara.
with the price and condition of the course, it's still worth to take 1 hour drive from mississauga.
This is our first time to play in this course and found it a very pleasant day. The course if quite well maintain compare to other Kaniff course in Milton. We save some money to book through Golfbow on this one but would like to see more saving if booking a day or 2 in advance.
Great!
Great job and staff. The reservation confirmation when completed was not sent to the course, but they were able to rectify the situation quickly and get us on the course.
Nice course but needs some serious TLC
This once was, and could still be a nice course if they would put some cash into it. I played it twice in a 2 week span and was not impressed. The tees were all chewed up, we found ourselves having to move the tee markers. The traps were rough with little sand in them. Greens were okay but a little pock-marked from inconsiderate golfers. We got part way down the first hole and the charge light came on in our cart. We found the cart was struggling to climb hills. We called the Pro shop to let them know and we were told that they were all like that. We finally got a new cart on the back nine and it was slower than the first! We had the same problem a week later...very slow carts that make for long rounds. Then we had a cart girl who tried to squeeze by our cart and scraped the side of it.
All in all, I won't be going back this year. I'll try them again in the spring and see if any thing has improved.
more difficult than people expect
great value! challenging from the blues and tips.
greens could be better cut and maintained but the cost for a decent course is unbeatable.
Great Cost for Course
The course is normally in good condition any time of year. I have played all 3 9 hole layouts and there is at least one green on each 9 that seems to have a hard time staying in good condition. With that being said, it never effects the hole that much.
Good for all players with multiple tees and the further back you go, the harder the course plays. Not overly long but the layouts offer playability and doesn't penalize you for missing the occasional fairway.
Escarpement is my favourite. I score well on it so thats probably why. Iron Bridge and Old Canel are tied for second.
Going Down Hill
Every time I play here it seems the condition continues to go down hill. Staff not so friendly.
shame you can't rate 0 stars!
This was by far the worst course I have played in Canada. For $50 I thought this would be a decent track but it ended up being a quirky mess of a layout with the WORST greens I have played in a long time. I would not expect such bad conditions on a football field, never mind a golf course.
Avoid at all costs - there are so many better courses nearby for the same or less money...
