Golfer Reviews
Fun challenging course. Pace of play extremely slow
The course is well kept and challenging, staff was super friendly, but the pac of play was extremely slow we had to wait 5-10 min at each hole before hitting our tee shots, no marshal in sight to help keep pace of play.
Must play. Amazing Course! NO RANGE. Staff—so-so.
Hot take.. might be McBroom’s best. We played tips (I’m a 9 index and hit my 3 wood about 260-280 consistently). Course plays VERY long due to elevation changes and tasteful doglegs. I struggled to break 90. Might wanna play tees one ahead of what you think. *Grain of salt: I did just come off a canoe trip and was 3 weeks outta practice.*
You will have mixed feelings when you first dawn your presence at hockley.
Reasonably straightforward to get to/from places prior to being on the course. No range. Carts included on a quite hilly course which is nice. Proshop employee took about two minutes too long to grab a clif bar and Gatorade. Didn’t give them to me until she had both receipts clipped and filed. By the way the cost 11 or 12 dollars. So yeah. Bring your own snacks.
Met three maintenance crew members. Two were awesome and warned us about the geese attacking if we’re near their goslings (we had already been in a kerfuffle with one). There was one employee who returned our smiles and waves with just a scowl and a shake of the head as he passed us in his toro. Put a bad taste in our mouth as we got up to the first tee. The guy we were paired with was awesome (shout out my awesome GolfNow Community!).
Silver lining.
We smoked cigars and enjoyed one of the most beautiful and difficult McBroom courses out there. Amazing conditions. Will be back in a heartbeat. We saw two other groups while we were out there.. like a private course.
Enjoy Hockley!
Great view!
Very good course. Beautiful scenery. Love to come back in the fall. Only improvement that I like is speed of the green tends to be slower than I like. I would expect a faster green. Otherwise everything was perfect.
Enjoyed this course immensely
I enjoyed playing Hockley Valley as much as any course I’ve played in a Very long time.
The challenge and variety of holes is great and the par 3’s are fun.
The only small downside was that there was no starter so it was a bit confusing on the first tee. I assume this was only because it is early in the season.
Nice track. Great scenery
I’d been told about this course and had a great 1st sexy. Challenging but playable. Beautiful under the fall colours and great conditions for late season
The grass “sand traps” are different
I’ll be back!
Nice track
Heard great things about this course. Playing was believing. Challenging but playable. The grass bunkers were different but naturally I did not hit one all round.
Great condition overall especially for the maybe last round of the season
A day well spent .
I really had a great game with my colleagues. Definitely worth playing. The fairways are distant apart and give acimfortable and safe feeling from other fairways stray balls.
I would definitely come back next season and more often. Have a great skiing season next, now.
Challenging but fun
Not your traditional course, challenging but definitely fun. Starter had a great personality and gave great advice! Friendly and approachable compare to our first experience where the starter was total bum! Was miserable and not friendly at all. Was annoyed and angry with the world.
Overall the course was good and well maintained. Would play there again.
